is it just about friendship? competitiveness? getting better? whats the difference of being a group of friends and having a crew?

To pretend you're not alone in singles and hope you will do better with people cheering for you and distracting you while you play

if your crew has an amazing leader that actually does stuff, you get sponsored!

otherwise not much; it's just a way to identify the people you commonly play with to others

We have crews because it's fun. Crews get you friends, crews help you play better, crews are good.

i consider a crew to be a group of guys that play melee/brawl together often. the people you play with mostly outside of tournament. although in atl north, a crew can be created out of thin air, adding any member anyone wants despite never playing or having anything in common whatsoever.

I used to ask this question before i joined the tunes.

To me a crew is a group of people that not only enjoy melee together, but just enjoy each other's company. My crew hangs out and does more than just play melee together. Usually people team with crewmates, and support each other during tourneys by cheering for one another in matches. Also, your crew mates aren't people you are usually very competitive with. These people teach each other all of their little secrets that keep them ahead of the rest of the community. These people are the people that train you and help you to improve.

I think I can answer this fairly well.

When I first started TSA, it started off as a joke. I started recruiting people I thought were cool and played the game fairly well.

After rethinking it, I decided to try and see if I can make the crew genuinely real. I started holding meetings, had initiations for further members, and made sure everyone was introduced to each other well with a positive attitude. I thought about ways we could get better at the game, shared it with the crew, and spent those nights training in them. I got into tournament hosting and decided to make that a part of TSA's legacy as well. Most importantly was to make sure everyone had a good chemistry with each other. If there were any internal conflicts, I had to make sure those were resolved if we were to stick together as a crew. Thankfully, everyone hit it off real well and I had minimal problems with this.

After awhile, we did more than just smash. We hung out and ate together in different restaurants. Some of us watched movies, went to bars, played poker, and even went to amusement parks. What I found was that much of TSA started to form a close bond with each other. And so what started as a group who commonly played for smash was a circle of good friends with a strong bond tying us all together, which lasts even after TSA's prime. I think we're different from most crews this way.

I honestly don't know why we stood out from other crews. Most people tell me it's because everyone they've met in TSA was awesome and gave them a good impression. But with that momentum, we used it as much as we could to get ourselves out there. I don't think I have any regrets as far crews go, if only that I wish it continued to be as active as it was before even with my retirement, but I feel very successful in what we've accomplished. In saying that, I feel that TSA is a great example of a crew that ran very well.

Pocky's definition was pretty much spot on. As for personal experience, I can say that I can say that I've found some of my closest friends in this crew, and I'm sure the others feel the same way.

We smash for laughs, and we're hot and amazing. <3 TSA

Edit: I still have that dollar where we won our first crew battle. Brings me some good memories.

Honestly, I don't know why there should be a line with groups of friends and a crew.

Groups of friends often form crews to play together, and the vice versa works as well - crews form groups of friends.

The title of "crew" is more or less to be united under one name for the community they're in.

I don't know what other crews are for, but a sense of belonging within a community and knowing there are other people I can rely on that can rely on me. They are smashers I associate with and care for.

But really, it's deeper than that. I mean, if you have to be asking this question, you're probably not ready for a crew. Just ask yourself why you made/joined a crew in the first place.

To get each other better in Brawl and not stay in one skill level.

To **** that rival crew and trash talk about their mothers.

To represent something or someone which is why we have Atl North and etc. Or EC vs WC
