couldn't say it better myself, I completely agree with you.

However there are some people who think that there aren't a Cap on things that you can always eventually get better. it's the debate on "working hard" vs " natural talent"
u mean "nature" vs. "nurture"
lmao i did an essay on that in psychology class too, but i dont want to get into that, my fingers hurt :(

Finally someone gets it. I was trying to say that, but you're much better with words than me.
I agree 1000%. We can finally end this debate.

actually loll i do want to get into that....my fingers are not broken anymore....

i believe that there is a very simple answer to the "nature" vs "nurture" debate or "working hard" vs "natural talent" whatever you want to call it. i hope to end all discussions with this.

the answer is that nurture, or working hard is definately a bigger factor in acheiving greatness, but that does not disclude nature, nature is still a very big influence. Proof? just look at the short and skinny basketball players out there, or female body builders. if nature was truly a bigger factor, then why are there super-strong-muscley women out there? why are there short people in the NBA? why are there people who can use low-tier characters in melee and still own?

now let me relate this to smash bros., the fact of the matter is, ITS ALL ABOUT PRACTICE AND NURTURING YOUR ABILITY, BUT IF YOU ARE A NATURAL AT SMASH, IT MAKES IT THAT MUCH EASIER, IT GIVES YOU A HEAD START, A LEAD, and MAKES IT EASIER FOR YOU TO BE BETTER.

how can i prove this? simple, look at the tiers. lets say for example, there is someone out there who loves a low-tier character like Ness. if that guy practices enough ( for a ******* like Ness that means a lot), he can actually nurture his ability so well with Ness that he will own many. HOWEVER, if you find somebody who practices the EXACT SAME AMOUNT, and nurtures his ability the exact same with a higher-tier character like Marth, the Ness will almost definately get owned. Why? because Marth is NATURALLY A GREAT CHARACTER FOR SMASH, he naturally has an advantage, a head start.

therefore, conclusion is simple. Nurture is definately the more deciding factor for being great in smash or anything, but nature gives you the great advantage to making your nurture that much easier and have the ability to nurture yourself into a higher-level of play. I can almost 100% guarantee that Ken or Bombsoldier have naturally great ability in smash, and they have nurtured themselves to greatness. That is why they are the best, because they have both.

I agree with you completely. Thats a very insightfull post.

On a side note... From what I have read on SWF, the term 'mindgame' can be generally defined as an expression that constitutes a combination of both intelligence/experience.

This ties in to the nature/nuture theory that you posted. Intelligence = nature, experience = nurture.

Also, the application of technical skill is far more important then that person's actual technical capabilities.

The proper application of techskill comes with intelligence/experience.

In this way, the application of techskill is also a mindgame, becomes mindgames are essentially intelligence/experience.

Therefore, both mindgames and technical skill coexist together and cannot actually be seperated at all.

Therefore, the best playstyle (or optimum) playstyle comes from intelligence/experience, and this also involves the application of technical skill.

The best players of the world all have large amounts of intelligence/experience and know how to apply tech skill. Therefore, they have great playstyles.

Therefore the best play style is.... Ken's. He is the highest ranked smash player.

However, it is impossible to duplicate his style because no one has the same experience, intelligence, or ability to apply technical skill as he does.

Therefore, it is best to just play to the best of your abilities, and not to view mindgames and technical skill as two seperate things, but as a whole that is essentially... your own playstyle.

maybe you should base your style on something a little less situational..but w/e works for you.

and yes for the slower posters crashman was obviously "trolling" or creating a joke post/thread and people bit.

go**** do any of you realize how many of these threads exist on smashboards and how many have been closed by some sort of mod, its like the 2nd favorite topic to discuss after PC Chris vs. Bombsoldier.... just go look in the falco forums where the most recent one talking about 'what is a technical falco' got closed because it errupted into a technical vs. mindgames debate. This argument has been posted and settled a million times. Technical skill needs to be developed first because it opens up more options for your character... mindgames develop as you play more opponents and gain more experience. With that being said technical skill is necessary to play at a high level but to excell it takes mindgames since everyone at pro level of play has good to excellent tech skill there is NO greater one they are both necessary and can both be developed further and further, obviously the better both of your skills are the better player you will become.... people seem to think that great mingames and great technical skills can't coexist on the same plane of existence or something. WTF?

Now look you've sucked me into your silly debate but seriously this has been done a billion times before just please stop making baby jesus cry.

Now I'm going to go back to playing my noob falco who doesn't have any techskill or mindgames because all I do is play against lvl. 9 cpus.

oops wow I bit like a fish... CURSE YOU CRASHMAN!

It is good to use those mind games, but if you see an opening for a technical move (such as the Ken combo) then definetly go for it.

I think it's about time this thread gets closed for three reasons.

1) Cra$hman, like I said long ago, obviously made this thread for a joke. He doesn't give a damn about the resulting answers to his question because he's too good.
2) The question has already been answered. There is no definite right answer to this but we got as close to it as possible.
3) This thread is obviously no longer going anywhere.

EDIT: Oh, and four, like someone mentioned above, this thread resembles forward's "What is a technical falco" thread which gave me a headache.
