Ahh! The SNES. My favorite gaming console of all time. I've never played Ninja Garden however I'm curious to know what it's about.

As for my favorite game......I can't really pick one but as mentioned earler Mega Man X and Turtles in Time are great games. I remember finally beating TMNT In Time on the hardest difficulty on January 1, 2002 at a friends house a half hour after midnight.

There are so many great games like the Donkey Kongs, Super Mario World's, Prince of Persia and so much more. I so badly miss the challenging 2D style of gameplay. The new 3D games like Mario Galaxy are so boring and unchallanging. By far I play my SNES over my Wii.

If your playing on an emulator, and your looking for more of a challange than anything, I would reccomend some of the SMW / SMAS mods.

Although, I wouldn't reccomend it if you aren't able to beat the original games yet. They are much more difficult.

You might want to try out the Super Mario World Second Reality Project. This one isn't "I wanna be the guy" hard, but it was a challenge for me, and I get sub 20min now on beating SMW.

If you just want to suffer, SMW Hell is just a downright slaughterhouse of mario. I've gotten about 3/4 of the way through, but I've still never beat the whole thing.

edit: this isnt SMW Hell, but its pretty close to what you would see in those levels. Dude has the patience of a saint.

edit edit: nvm, I just read your using a regular Snes, unless you have awsome cartridge hacking skills it will be hard to play the mods on a real snes.

Otherwize the cream of the top on platformers on the snes are:

Mario
Megaman
...

I'm sure there were a few others I liked, but I can't remember right now.

I'm trying to think of platformers with a good story and am drawing a blank, I'm afraid.

Yoshi's Island has kind of a sweet story and is totally an awesome game. Try that.

Super Metroid.

I can't believe this hasn't been suggested yet.

Seriously, best game on the SNES in my opinion. Even not in my opinion, it is widely regarded as one of the best games on SNES and of all time. And if you get into speed running, there's a whole assortment of other things you can do in the game. Without it, though, it's still an awesome and challenging game.

Platformer and good story didn't mix so well back then.... or now for that matter. =\

Bah, you're right. I don't know why I called it a Platformer, it's really an Adventure...I got confused for a second. Sorry. Nonetheless, it is worth checking out. Platformer and good storyline or not.

SMW is my favourite platformer for the SNES. The story was great, There's a kidnapped princess and you have to go rescue her. It was pretty original back then (if you don't count the other 2 Mario games).

Best game on the SNES.

Edit: Oh yes, and a thought occurs: While it's not terribly hard, get Kirby Superstar. Kirby's Funpack if you're in PAL territory. It's pretty cool.
Agreed ... Diddy Kong Country 2 IS the BEST game on Snes .. no questions..

Donkey Kong Country 2 is awsome. It's for sure the hardest of the 3 Donkey Kong games on SNES. So many classic levels like Toxic Tower, Screech's Sprint, Rambi Rumble, Animal Antics and several more.

Any of the DKC games, although I prefer the original, as it actually starred Donkey Kong. SMW's great, too.

Super Metroid should be one of the ones you get.

Mega man X is also good.

Here's a good idea though. Go get Chrono Trigger. Not a platformer, but its an amazing game with a great storyline.

Platformers with storyline? What blasphemy. <.<"

Seriously, though, if you want to play a platformer with good gameplay and music, go get Super Castlevania IV. Sure, the storyline "evil Dracula wants to destroy humanity and Simon Belmont sets out to kill him" is not very creative and good, but the game is. So insanely awesome. One of the best Castlevania games ever. Get it. NAO.

Something I just thought of, and I know it's not SNES, but the side scrolling nes Zelda game might be what you are looking for. It plays like a platformer, and has a great story to it.

I'm guessing noone mentioned Super Mario RPG because it's not a platformer. I have my own reasons for not mentioning it, but that one would be top of my list.

Apparently I need to get Super Metroid. Will pick it up this week, I think.

I always thought restoring peace between a warring sun and moon was kind of a cool plot in milky way wishes. It stands up well to "Bowser's got Peach", "K Rool took all our bananas, and some monkeys too" and "Oh snap, a baby? Really?! Lets go take it back".

anyone ever play the goemon games for snes? Only one was actually translated, but the gameplay was top notch each. Who doesn't love giant robot fights?

I played a few of them once (rented the localized one for the SNES and played the Ganbare Goemon 2 & 3 games on a emulator). They are solid. :bigthumbu It's a shame that we didn't get much of the games in the series, thanks to Nintendo's initial silly content restrictions...:(
