I just got to thinking: with Brawl coming out in Japan before anywhere else, what will occur with the updates to the dojo? After all, the person writing the Dojo is apparently Sakurai, a man who is Japanese and lives in Japan. You could hardly blame him for stopping.

So what will happen?

A: Updates will stop everywhere.
No more updates for anyone once the game is released in Japan. Mildly bad for folks in North America, really bad for the people in Europe (btw, can I please ask the Europeans here to not turn this thread into a "America and Japan gets everything before us" thread? I have nothing against you guys, but I don't want that to happen).

B: Secret Character/stage updates
Sakurai has yet to reveal a character, with the exception of the third parties, that we can say 99% is going to be secret. Would it not make sense for him, in order not to spoil the surprise too much, release that info on the DOJO after the game has been released? Those that have unlocked those characters/stages/whatever already can consider it an achievement they have unlocked it already, and those that haven't can become excited over unlocking something.

C: America/Europe only updates
Have people from NOA or NOE write some updates. They wouldn't have the great wit and wisdom of Sakurai, but it'd be better then nothing.

D: WHO CARES?!
By the time Japan gets Brawl, it won't be long (hopefully) until America gets it (sorry to Europeans again. Seriously, we feel your pain. Well, at least, I do. I thought Doshin the Giant looked fascinating) We're be able to find out about the game through other means once folks in Japan have it, and the sheer "OMG! It's coming!" excitement will defuse any woe-is-us feelings.

Hmm...this is an interesting question. I believe that updates will continue after all region's releases, but what will the updates be comprised of? Do we get unlockables after the Japanese release? Or the US release?

I'm thinking Sakurai will start updating with unlockables before the game's release. Not weeks or months before, but maybe a couple of days to a week. I mean, there's only 2 weeks between the Japanese and US launches, so that time in between will most likely be spent updating with whatever's left to update with and unlockables.

Those will probably be the most interesting updates for us, but by then we'll all know the complete roster.

I believe it will be B, Although I disagree that 3rd party characters are an exception.

What's really sad about this discussion is that at one point, we'll get the final farewell update from Sakurai.

He can't update forever!

....or can he?

It's a fighting game so I'm not worried about getting spoiled. That's something to worry about RPGs that center around the story; fighting games center around the gameplay so knowing all of the unlockables isn't going to ruin your gaming experience for Brawl. And I don't think anyone will be able to stop looking at the site updates. It's a daily ritual for all of us.

I also think that once the game is released in Japan in the two weeks until the American release all of the unlockables and secrets of the game will get posted on 2ch and Japanese blogs from the Japanese players who get their hands on the game.

anyone can get spoiled if someone unlock a character before you and post it. what if you did not want to know that information.

Japanese friends are not needed. If there is new information about Brawl on the internet then it will be posted here by someone. There will also most likely be an unofficial image board set up by Japanese players to post new pics from Brawl, too.

Then don't look at the internet anymore after it's released in Japan. Seriously.

But as I've described before it's not really a big deal since the game is fun because of the gameplay, not the story or unlockables.

All I know is that after January 24 next year, I won't visit SWF because there will probably be somebody to spoil it for people who don't live in Japan.

I'm gonna have to go with letter chioce D, because c'mon it won't really be too long (for me anyway) until we Americans get it, and besides I do wanna be surprised with something he he indeed stops updating, because that would mean he didn't spoil everything

Yes, Probably on the second day after brawls release someone will think they are funny, and make a topic title saying" blahblah is in brawl!!!", and have a freaking huge picture of them.

someone could even be so evil as to post the entire character select screen in a non-spoiler topic. that...would suck...SO bad.

People will be doing that on the first day.

Don't be surprised when it happens.

In my opinion posting spoil pictures in _non_ spoil threads should be punished. I bet there's people that would like to keep browsing this page without the risk of getting quite a big part of the game spoiled. I'm from Europe, so that might be hard (avoiding spoils from America and Japan... just no) but at least in the time between Japan release and US release.

Currently: lost in the realm of Akanea.
After the japanese release of SSBB in Japan, Sakurai may simply give up and start giving us veteran characters that were unlockable in the previous games (i.e. C. Falcon, Marth, Jigglypuff, Metwo) since the game is released in Japan (Sakurai's favoured market since he is Japanese of course) which then means that we'll be home free in the sense that most of our veteran questions will finally be answered

there's also a possibility that nintendo will get a team to finish the website quickly

Sakurai and Miyamoto hinted at an interview that they'll update the unlockables on the site at some time, they said that because some regions get to play it before others, it would be inevitable to hear about some unlockables, so they'd rather we read it said by them and not by random sites on the net.

I suppose that'll be the answer, and I guess that these updates would start off a week before japanese release.

IMO, I'm going to keep going to the DOJO right up until February 10.

Normally I would go online and look for spoilers and such, but this is Smash Bros. It'd be like opening my Christmas presents early.

I actually did that once...or twice...>_>

Hey, if you think my country is bad for Nintendo, spare a thought for the poor Aussies. A moment of silence please...

*bows head*

Okay, what I think will happen is that the site will update fully within two to three days, then special updates will occur every week or so, like downloadable stuff or info on tournaments. Occassionaly, say every month, a new item could be made for download and posted up, and every year, a new character.

Hey, that's a good idea. Annual character additions!

I love checking the site every morning, but if i see a character or level ect. that i think (or it says) is an unlockable, I'm going to stop checking it until i have almost all the stuff in the game. And doesn't Japan get updates a while before we do, if so someone should make a thread translating the Japanese updates. Though I guess that they'd have to be in Japan cause when i say to read it in Japanese on the site it just has a bunch of question marks.

I'm pretty sure they get them at more or less the same time as us. Also with most updates you could probably judge what is being said from the screens. And you only get question marks because you don't have the right font set downloaded.

Personally I'm just going to (try) to stop looking once it's released in Japan. At the time of Melee's release I used to use walkthroughs to do everything in games (I stopped once I realised how much of the fun it was sucking away - Starfox Adventures was a tough detox period), so I knew which characters were coming up anyway. It would suck a lot more for me to not have the surprise this time, as back then I also didn't actually know who most of them were - Link, Zelda, and the Mario and Pokemon characters were the only ones, really. In fact, Melee is what really got me into Nintendo games in general, and as a result I would now be highly surprised if there were any characters I might not recognise.

He will likely keep updating. Probably every Friday after the release we would just get one character in the game all the way till the last one...

I do really hope Sakurai doesn't reveal a hidden character without saying so,or doing it at all. I would really hate to see the CHALLENGER APPROACHING screen, and then find it was a character I've already heard all about.

It doesn't matter. Everything in the game is going to be spoiled by the Japanese audience once the game comes out and if you're so worried about spoilers and whatnot, it would rather ridiculous to go searching for Brawl news once the game is out. Cuz it will probably be mostly everywhere.
