What is the best way to practice against 'human' players?

Just a bit curious how people practice against 'human players' OTHER than play more of them. Would playing against CPUs help? Training? Cruel Melee?

well, we all know that playing an actual human is the best.... but can practice tactics on lv. 3 computers. you kinda just practice things such as sh fair while DI back, and well.... after you have it you apply it against a human. playing lvl 9's can help but, they do things a human player would nvr do, so i tend to use training (this allows me to test things at select damages) and lvl 3 comps................... but this is implying i don't have an actual human to play of course lol

o yea, technically, this isn't practicing against a human player... but more practicing for a human player lol

one more thing........ don't think that because you can beat the cpu easy that that will make you ready. i don't do this, but i guess you can watch vids of others and see how well you are at analyzing strategy's. because on the cpu you can practice specific things, but there easy to apply.... against a human, knowing how to do something is different from knowing when to do something. i

Just ask!
One word of advice:
Rigged.
These CPU players are 'owtfux'.
It`s almost as if they know exactly what you`re going to do next, and either counter or evade it in any way possible.
Most, if not all, humans do not play like this.
It is good 'practice', but like others have said, don`t be shocked time come you versus a human.

once you reach a certain threshold, doing any of those things will hurt more than they help

ESPECIALLY cruel *brawl, 1v3, things like that... people love to brag about how they can beat CPU 1v3, but it requires a very different playstyle than traditional 1v1 vs humans, so you really don't want to get locked into the other mentality or develop those stupid habits

in reality, not playing at all can benefit your game; it can eliminate your bad habits and clear your mind of things you 'expect' the opponent to do

mm thanks I'll keep that in mind so is training the best idea then? To practice throwing Pikmin on evading targets and the like?

exactly, facing any cpu will just degrade your playing style into a predictable vat of sludge. literally.

Now coming back to this thread, this is very true. Even in Melee, facing against a cpu REALLY DOES make your game predictable!

P.S. Playing against friends repeatedly would be ok, wouldn't it?

Friends? How many of them are there that you play? One or two is bad. Twenty and higher is fine.

I find that going through life as though you were a Pikmen and that Tim was Olimar is a good way to practise. "Toot Toot"

Unless you have played kirby in the original games you cant really appericiate his presence in SSBB.

Good point protoman, whether you meant it or not: Not playing can help you. It can help get you out of bad habits and can give you a fresh start sometimes.

In the jawn, with the jawn.
No that's how I meant it :) I think.
No i really did though, thinking about your mistakes after a match, is way better than going to play a boat load of matches against the charcter you played against.
Your going to develop horribl ehabits because the computer is built on a system, whether you beleive it or not the compute reacts a certain programmed way each time, and can do nothing more than what it's been programmed for.

Wifi was created for a reason. The Only way to train in a positive way if just to play wifi matches.

Either that or don't play at all.

*slightly off topic*

Would you prefer the Wifi to have a 'statistics' system? A record that counts how many wins/losses, etc?
