all those sports games had a lot better counterparts on the ps1. and idk a single person who would say those Pokemon games r overlooked. and like finalark said, they arent really that revolutionary. just well made games. Pokemon Stadium is just Pokemon with 3d models but no real story. the mini games were pretty good tho.
Well you really don't need story for a game to be good. But that being said, the Stadium games are essentially just turn-based battle simulators. Sure, it's cool to see your mons from R/B/Y or G/S/C fighting in 3D, but when will you ever hear any game developer say they were inspired by Pokemon Stadium?

On the topic of the mini games in Stadium though. I am boss as **** at the Sandshrew mini game in Stadium 1.

PSP is best

If handhelds don't count, then maybe Wii is the best on account of doing well two things a console imo should do that handhelds cannot: motion controls, and offline multiplayer.

Despite that PS3 might be the best.

Have never used a WiiU but I might say it's the best solely due to off TV play. Not to mention virtual console. (playing every console gen ever + off TV play = hilarious sex)

My problem with PSP is the fact that a huge amount of the games worth are all JRPG's/things relating to them, like BBS, Dissidia, Prinny etc., had a home console equivalent, or ported to the PS2 (like GTA LCS/VCS) The only game I really enjoyed that wasn't any of those was Daxter lol.

While I do enjoy motion controls, I don't necessarily feel that all consoles should use them, and I'd probably have to give the best offline multiplayer console to either the PS2 for PS2 and 1 games (or launch PS3 for all games), or the Wii, as you said, especially taking Virtual Console into account.

The PSP is not that great, honestly. Or maybe I'm just tired of looking at all the PSP games we can't get rid of at work. It really suffers from tons of shovelware, and UMDs are basically useless unless you have an older model. PSPs also have a tendency to break a lot. It's got some nice mods for it, and I feel like that may be its only saving grace.

The problem with the Wii is that its best games are ones that harness the capabilities of motion controls without being too stale or generic. It's a console that's innovative at best, but generally pretty terrible at worst.

I've got a lot of nostalgic memories of the NES if that makes you feel younger

By the gods this.

My issue with the PSP is that that it has that horribly uncomfortable nub instead of an actual control stick of any kind, the fact that UMDs are way too fragile and the incredibly niche library. Granted, I like a fair amount of PSP games but that fact is that the PSP's library appeals to a very limited (or very Japanese) audience.

The problem with the Wii is that its best games are ones that harness the capabilities of motion controls without being too stale or generic. It's a console that's innovative at best, but generally pretty terrible at worst.
I see the Wii more as an experiment from Nintendo than anything else. And I think that they've mostly abandoned motion control at this point, seeing how the Wii U has an iPad with buttons as a controller. It doesn't help that a majority of the Wii's library consists of nothing but shovelware.

Hey, I grew up with an Amiga 600 (then 1200) and a Master System .

The sad thing is people can say that then say the N64 and NES weren't like that with a straight face XD.

I'ts completely true, though. Whenever I go down to a local used games store and glance into the NES section there's maybe one or two games I'd actually be interested in while the rest is nothing but movie and cartoon tie-ins or miscellaneous sports games.

The only reason why the NES and N64 don't get similar criticism as the Wii is because they're protected by the almighty nostalgia barrier.

Haha. And yeah, you're right. Every popular console is plagued with shovelware, which makes total sense too.

My favorite system has been the DS, I have so many enjoyable games for it and not many bad things to say about it, other than the hinge issue.
And it has Chrono Trigger, which is easily one of the biggest pluses any system could ever have.

But for home consoles, I don't know if I would call any one the best. I've had a Nintendo system since before I can remember, but never a massive library of games, so I have little nostalgia for the NES, SNES, N64. Sure all three have some great games, but at least for the big Nintendo games I tend to like the later installments more. I have a soft spot for the Gamecube thanks to Melee, Prime 2, Wind Waker, Prime 1, Zelda: Collectors Edition, but the system has plenty of issues. The Wii was worth it for the Galaxy games imo, but probably not the best that Nintendo has made, the Virtual Console does help though, there are a few games I never got to play until they showed up there.

Objectively, the PS2 could be the best, it has a massive library of good games with plenty of variety, especially some amazing JRPGs. I love my PS3 for Fighting games mostly along with some other enjoyable games, but it never really lived up to the PS2. The XBOX has always seemed pointless to me.

Meh, I care more about the games than the system they are on, most of the good ones will show up on future consoles anyways. :/

I feel this way also and that's why I like the N64 so much. It's the home to the highest concentration of games that I enjoy playing. The fact that there's no loading times is nice too.

The Wii is a fantastic console thanks to the Virtual Console and my 3 favorite games on it (see photo) but then again I probably spend more time on my 360 now since I'm playing Halo 4 so much.

No matter how much things change some things always stay the same.

Despite my hate for GoldenEye 64 I gotta say that I actually really enjoyed the remake.

I never really got the Mario Kart 64 hype TBH. It's probably because I didn't play it until around 2011 (actually, that whole statement basically summarizes why I dislike the N64) but stiff controls + horrible draw distance = no bueno.

Mario Kart 64 was good for some clean fun with friends. Sure, it isn't perfect, especially considering how dated it is, but I can still pop that game in on virtual console with friends and still have a blast.

I love Mario Kart 64 so much that I even purchased the Japanese version.

Oh and yeah, I've got it on my Wii's Virtual Console too. Looks really nice in progressive scan and in 16:9 aspect ratio. I also like being able to play it with the GameCube controller.

Grizz your picks remind me of the days when I used to be into game collecting. Sadly I had to eventually sell a good chunk of my collection and don't have nearly as much as I used to. To be honest the only thing out of my collection that I really regret selling was my Dreamcast and everything I had with it. Ironically, a few months ago I ended up just buying another Dreamcast (this time in rare-as-**** black) and I've been working on rebuilding my DC collection.

It's actually a lot tougher now since the shop that borderline specialized in retro gaming moved to another state and now I'm left with different used game store that tends to sell titles at ridiculously inflated prices.

Are there any rare games for Dreamcast btw? Like, anything that compares to some of the Sega CD and Saturn stuff? I haven't gotten any DC games in awhile. Next ones I'll try to get are Shenmue and maybe the DC version of Skies of Arcadia.

Skies of Arcadia is one of my favorite things ever made by human beings. Just had to get that off my chest.

Honestly, I'm not sure how hard it is to find Shenmue anymore. Two to three years ago you couldn't walk into a used games store here without seeing at least two copies of that game sitting on the DC shelf. These days I can't seem to find it anywhere. Hell, I'm actually having a hard time find Crazy ****ing Taxi for DC in this town.

Anyway, some rare/out-of-the-way DC games I know of:

- Skies of Arcaida (duh)
- Seaman (I've only ever seen two copies in my life, good luck getting one that has the mic though)
- Shenmue (kinda, see above)
- Sonic Shuffle (I swear I owned the only copy of this game in Tucson)
- Outtrigger (a little know FPS by SEGA, I have never seen a copy in my life)
- Sonic Adventure 2 (it's actually surprising difficult to find this game)
- Grandia II (again, I swear I owned the only copy of this game in Tucson)
- Crazy Taxi 2 (IMO better than Crazy Taxi 1 but again, I swear I owned the only copy)
- Samba De Amigo (I've only ever seen one copy of this game, and that was without the Maracas)
- Power Stone 2 (for anyone who ever wants to reference this list again in the future)

That's just a few off the top of my head. I think Skies of Arcadia is the only DC game that hits Saturn level of ridiculously hard to find. One advantage the DC has as far as retro consoles go is that because it's the second best selling SEGA console in the west it's not that hard to get games for it.

Thanks. Only one I have on that list is Grandia II while some of the others I might be looking to get just for fun. But yeah, I remember hearing about those titles, but didn't how hard some of those were to find. Currently focusing on getting SNES titles and then PS1 titles since the prices for these are just shooting up now for some reason.

It's weird how game pricing works. I figured that with old games getting re-released on modern consoles that original copies of those games would get cheaper but in some cases LOLNOPE. I'm honestly curious to know how much my handful of PS1 games would go for these days. For the record, those games are:

- Spyro
- Spyro 2
- Spyro 3
- Crash Team Racing
- Final Fantasy VIII
- Final Fantasy IX
- Darkstalkers
- Tony Hawk 2

I used to have something like 20+ PS1 games but I ended up selling them along with a good chunk of my other games a few years ago.

I forgot to mention Power Stone 2, by the way. That game is actually pretty tough to get a hold of. Power Stone 1, on the other hand, is actually really easy to find. It just usually comes at a stupidly inflated price.

Ugh, Power Stone 2. I still haven't gotten that one, but I might just get the PSP version on PSN instead.

For FF games, I feel like the pricing is all over the place and sometimes generally higher than they should be because of the amount of copies. I can't imagine any of the 2D Capcom fighters to be high in price since the Saturn versions beat them. I'd say out of all the consoles, PS1 is where I have the most rare games than my other consoles. Besides the FFs (although everything but 7 and 9 are green label), I have both Tales of Destiny games, Persona 2, both Lunar games, both MM Legends, and some other stuff. Missing the obvious rare ones like Tron Bonne, Suikoden 2, and etc.

PS2, the SMT games used to be rare, but now everything's been reprinted, so now my collections mostly just RPGs that aren't too bad to find. For SNES, only rare game I have is Earthbound (which should/might lower in price for just the cartridge) and FFVI if you count that.

Dat Battle Theme. So epic.

PSP IMO was a good system, just unfortunate that it was bogged down by price and overall lack of portability I think didn't help either compared to the DS. Also, it may just be me, but I thought the framerate in some games like Peace Walker were terrible compared to their PS3 HD Collection counterpart.

Even though the Wii had the most sales, and the 360 sold more in the US, the PS3 was my favorite. It was like the turtle and hare. At the end of the day, the PS3 has the best library of games ranging from FPS to RPGs. It has free online play. Blu-Ray player for those that watch movies. And while Xbox may have more "apps", the main ones like Netflix are there.

Also, I think overall, the PS3 had the most "wow" moments as well in terms of graphical or artistic prowess. Off the top of my head, Uncharted 2, God of War 3, Uncharted 3, Heavy Rain, and Journey come to mind. PS3 probably established one of the most talked about franchises this generation in the Demon/Dark Souls series.

The Wii's greatest moments came with SMG 1 and 2 and Zelda: Skyward Sword and Smash. Xbox came with Gears of War and Halo.

I really have to give Sony credit that they are not afraid to make more IPs. Makes me sad knowing that Nintendo always sticks to their "guns", and even some of the established ones barely get any screen time.

I suggest picking up the DC version if you plan on playing with friends, but honestly it is much cheaper just to get the PSP version but you're missing out on the local multiplayer.

Assuming your friends either A: don't have PSPs or B: are lame and won't play anything older than current gen.

I think the rarest thing I ever owned as far as PS1 games go was a black label copy of FFVII with a misprinted back (a few letters from the word "masterpiece" were oddly floating off below the word, among a few other things). I ended up selling it for $60 alone. Other than that I used to have Lunar 2, Anthology, Chronicles, Origins and Persona 1 (which is derpy as all hell BTW).

PS2, the SMT games used to be rare, but now everything's been reprinted, so now my collections mostly just RPGs that aren't too bad to find. For SNES, only rare game I have is Earthbound (which should/might lower in price for just the cartridge) and FFVI if you count that.
To be honest PS2 is probably the easiest console to collect for. I really can't think of anything that's ridiculously hard to find on it, since everything has been reprinted as you said.

I would like to get back into game collecting one day, but given how retro gaming in Tucson is lulzy and how expensive it is I really doubt I ever will.

And just as an example how stupid retro gaming is here there's one shop called Game Trader here that offered me $11 for my rare, translucent green Xbox Classic with four controllers, two memory cards, Halo 1, 2, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Shenmue II, Escape from Butcher Bay, Stranger's Wrath, and about four or so more games. And then they were selling selling copies of Jet Grind Radio for around $25 dollars (that game usually goes for $10-15) and Phantasy Star Online for DC for around $20, and that game is worth less than $5. The SA2 demo disk that comes with the game is probably worth more than the PSO disk.

I love it. The style just reminds me of older games/anime.

All of this is pretty much spot on with how I feel for all three consoles.

Yeah, although I guess with a PSP and Vita, I can at least have two players. That reminds me to try Adhoc Party again. I haven't used it since Peace Walker. Still though, it'd be nice to have it on the DC.

and Persona 1 (which is derpy as all hell BTW).
Besides the Demikids games, I think the PS1 version of Persona is the only US SMT release I'm missing (well, I guess there's 2 DS games I'm missing too). I could've gotten it for collective purposes but the localization (and the game to an extent) was pretty bad that I didn't feel like it.

For US games, kinda yeah. The only ones that are hard to get are the LE for MGS3 Subsistence, Gitaroo Man, and the .hack// games. MvC2 used to be up there, but not anymore.

Hold up, MGS3 Subsistence is actually worth something? Damn, I got mine for ten bucks back when I had it and a PS2.

EDIT: On the subject of game collecting, this site is actually really useful for figuring out prices:

The LE version of Subsistence is rare, not the regular Subsistence or Essential Collection version. It should be red iirc.

Anyone ever play Glover 64? It came with my N64 along with a couple of other games.

At first I thought it sounded and looked stupid. I had Mario Kart 64 as well, why would I ever play a no title game?

I was wrong.

It was awesome

SNES, ps1, ps2, and DS

come on, no other console had the overall huge selection of good games that these 4 had

outside of SNES, all other home nintendo consoles had terrible 3rd party support which got to the point you only play them to play nostalgic nintendo games (including the wii, no comment on the wiiU), SNES was the king of RPGs, there were so many god damg RPGs on this console it's not even funny. From Earthbound to Final Fantasy to Chrono Trigger to Super Mario RPG to whatever. I could go on but you get it, this was the console for RPGs

ps1&2 are 2 of the 3 highest selling video game consoles ever (DS being the 3rd, pc isn't included), these had great adventure games. You got the Spyro and Crash series on the ps1 which were followed by Ratchet and Clank and the Jak and Daxter series. The also followed the SNES with a buttload of great RPGs like Final Fantasy, the Atlus games, etc. They ruled their respective generations.

Nintendo has ruled the handheld stuff forever but the DS gets an exception over the others for being the most successful handheld console ever (by a lot). It had a list of games comparable to those of the SNES, ps1 and ps2.

the current generation doesn't have a clear cut winner, yea the wii sold the most but the game selection sucked outside of nintendo stuff. I think we can pretty much call the 360 and the ps3 a tie. This gen had great games like Mass Effect, MGS4, SMG, etc. but it was spread cleanly over all three so nothing comes out on top. I also consider this gen to be the worst for RPGs of all gens

so basically, the consoles with the best RPGs are the best :)

I'm almost certain that the 3DS has comparatively outsold the DS at this point. It'll probably continue to do so until the end of its generation.

it took the DS 2 years to get into it's awesome sales and it's still too early to claim the 3ds among top consoles

i really hate the joystick on that thing though
