What if there was version-exclusive characters?

I’ve been thinking about how the Ice Climbers were originally going to be in Sm4sh, but we’re only really working in the Wii U version, and because of that they had to cut them altogether. What if both versions had version-exclusive characters to rectify this? This list I’m putting together isn’t made with the intention of keeping the 3DS controller for the Wii U in mind.

I feel like if they were doing this they might exclusive pokemon characters playable in both versions. Charizard would probably be exclusive in both games but I could see them making greninja an exclusive and adding another fully evolved starter to the other version

Sure would be nice, but I guess they didn't want to make the 3DS owners jealous? (since the Wii U wasn't doing so well and there might be 3DS owners who couldn't afford it either)
