I'm just wondering how slang terms are around the whole world.
Post your local slang terms, or even slang you and your friends use!

Oh, and of course, NOTHING INAPPROPRIATE.

Here in the Bay Area (California), popular terms are:

Hella (adj. meaning a lot)

Yadadimean?! (meaning "you know what i mean")

Turf(noun/verb;a style of dancing popular within the bay area/the act of dancing this way)

"You would (repeat whatever they say, if appropriate to the 'you would')"

"Give me your___!" (Started off as...um...rhymes with 'lick'. Now it's really anything.)

There's more, but these are always the funniest. These are said with a very distinct, fake accent, which I can't explain.

I'm from Tennessee:

Y'all - "What are y'all up to?"
Fixin' - "I'm fixin' to write my paper once I get off work"

I would like to point out that I say none of these.

For some reason, people here say: "I seen you at the theater" instead of "I saw you at the theater.

Also, I guess it's weird that we say "those ones". Last night, this girl from New Jersey asked me which computers were online, and I pointed to the first row. "Those ones, over there." She gave me a speech about how it's just "Those, over there."

Let's see, Louisiana slang:

Down da bayou - This pretty much means any direction along the bayou.
Ya'll - Used even in school. We had a lesson in 3rd grade about where "Ya'll" would fit grammatically.

That's honestly all I can think of right now. I know there are tons more too... hmm...

Theres a huge variety from where i come from for example: "NA-MEAN" the translation in common english is, Do you know what i mean? Which usually occurs after a sentence, Shortened from its retired form "DUH-YA-NA-MEAN". Saying it and reading are two different things trust me.

Another one is "CAKE". The thing about this one is that it's multipurpose. If someone calls you "CAKE", they have insulted you and depending on the person they may have violent ulterior motives. If someone says; she got "CAKE" its a compliment towards her derierre or figure. If someone says; That's "CAKE", it means that its easy or did not take much effort.

Sorry, but maamdem isn't a very obvious translation to "mom, and them."

**** hicks. I'll need to talk to someone not from the west coast, and ask them to point out my accent. I can't say I don't have one, because every area really does have one... it's just a lot more subtle than other places.

I'm not sure if this is a Utah thing or not, but in words like "Mountain/Fountain", we say "Moun'n/Foun'n." But I think most people do that...

in my area we use hella commercial and tv lingo.
-where we would say "that's cool", we add "I'm done making my video anyways", which is a reference from south park.
-where we would say "you have no idea", we add "i'm 'bout to pimp yo ride."

stuff like that.

Tons of slang where I live, if I wanted I could go on and on...
I'll name some:
Aight
You straight?
Screet (Street)
Dat/wit/bout
Pop it off
Square up
You'll rarely hear any good grammar at my school, as well as the n word tossed around a lot. Typical conversation:
Guy 1: dat ******* bout **** **** *** wit
Guy 2: *** *** **** ****
Guy 1: *Punches random person*
Yeah...

I totally lack an accent, I've been told. When we went to Florida and Ohio for band, both places didn't believe I was from Louisiana at all and actually said that about a lot of the other people in band. Then, this woman from New York came to the store I worked, I was stringing her instrument, and she asked where I was from, I said here, and she didn't believe me.

It makes me happy when people say I have no accent. I hate the southern drawl.

thankfully I've managed to avoid the JOYSEY accent, which makes English cry. Fortunately there's no ugly idioms, just that nasty accent.

Resurrected.
Oregon has one of the most neutral accents in the country. We have very little unique phrases, if any they are borrowed from California. The only thing I can think of that is unique to Oregon is we say 'uh' instead of 'a'. For example, 'I would like uh box of cookies,' it is really quite subtle but that is about the only thing.

Some people here, also, don't pronounce there T's. Mou'ain, bu'on (instead of button), mi'en (instead of mitten) ect.

EDIT: Oh yeah, we call the thing where you drive your car in a tight circle, to intentionally skid, a cookie instead of a dough nut.

So, what would I say if I actually wanted a coke?

I actually heard that same thing, last time I was in Portland. I don't know what makes an accent neutral, though...

I grew up in Oregon, but since people say this in Utah too, I thought it was a Utah thing, since both of my parents grew up there, and I probably got it from them.

I've always said both.

Canada Eh
well I live in canada, in a city called winnipeg, and we seem to create alot of sayings here, or esle just use existing words but emphasizing them. Like whenever something is easy, We say " o thats peanuts" Or when were upset about something we just shout " thats ridiculous!" and when someones funny or stupid we say " hes got jokes, or thats jokes" or when we want to fite " is there a problem here?" or esle when someone is hardcore or sumn we say" o hes champed out, or hes elite" or something, but rly, thats just at my school, theres way more sayings but y'know too lazy to post.

Apparently in Australia we all say "G'day" and "Mate" and to be fair it is quite common but not as much as people think. (I don't say G'day though)

I'm from the Bay Area (Now living in cent/socal) and I say both of those, not excessively, but they come out every so often.

Down here, we get a lot of small redneck-ish nuances in words, such as:

Washer - Wershur
Saw- Saul

Bako - Bakersfield, the town that I am currently in.
I've noticed a lot of people around here grossly misusing, "any more".
Such as, "I haven't had that in a long time any more." It's a little annoying to hear.

Zoo= When boxer get out of the belt line.
Cornbread= Weed (lol not hill billys just don't ask)

around here we call it POP not soda or soda pop. If you call it soda you get stared at. Saying "I'll just have a coke" means basically any pop.

I notice kids around me say "I'm not gonna lie " alot for some reason.

Whenever my cousins come from St. Louis they always make fun of my Chicago accent. Everyone else sounds like a hill billy to me. I say some things that are WEIRD to them, but I never notice. I can't think of many other examples.

Relax + Chill= Chillax

Has spread like wildfire in recent weeks.
Here, too. Or maybe we live in the same area. But I absolutely hate it.

And we say "pop" instead of "soda". Saying "soda" gets you strange looks (I do it most of the time).

If someone says something that's factually incorrect, they often say "I lied" or "oops, I lied," even though it was obviously not a lie but a simple mistake.

That annoys me so much.
