The venue is called Game On Frozen Yogurt/ The Playroom, and it is both a used game store and a frozen yogurt shop. It's split into two halves, but you can come and go between them as you please. They have a wide variety of flavors for frozen yogurt, and every topping you can imagine. We've got a few photos of the venue:

Brawl ruleset:

  • 3 Stocks
  • 8 minute time limit
  • Items set to "off" and "none"
  • Pause set to "off"
  • Meta Knight's infinite dimensional cape tactic is banned
  • All infinites and chaingrabs are legal until 300%
  • There is a 40 Ledge Grab Limit for all characters. If a game goes to time and one player goes over the Ledge Grab Limit for their character, they will automatically lose the game. If both players exceed their Ledge Grab Limit, then this rule is ignored.
  • The act of stalling is banned: stalling is intentionally making the game unplayable: Such as becoming invisible, continuing infinites, chain grabs, or uninterruptible moves past 300%, and reaching a position that your opponent can never reach you.
  • Any action that can prevent the game from continuing (i.e., freezing, disappearing characters, game reset, etc.) will result in a forfeit of that match for the player that initiated the action. You are responsible for knowing your own character, and must be wary about accidentally triggering one of these effects.
  • If the Ledge Grab Limit does not declare one player the winner, the winner will be declared by what the game says in all situations, except for when players are presented with sudden death.
  • In the event of a match going to time, the winner will be determined by who has less percent (stock difference still takes priority but will be shown in the results screen).
  • If the match ends with both players dying at the same time (either coincidentally or via suicide move) or if time ran out with both players at equal percent, a one stock three minute rematch will be played on the same stage.
  • For a tie-breaker match, a Ledge Grab Limit of 15 is used for all characters.
  • Pools play seeding will be determined by set wins first, followed by head to head wins in case of ties, followed by wins - losses, followed by replaying of a starter stage best of 1.
Modified Doubles Rules:
  • Team attack is set to "on"
  • Double Meta Knight is banned
  • Life stealing is allowed
  • In the event of a game reaching the time limit, if a single player on a team exceeds their Ledge Grab Limit, that team loses. If one or more players on both teams exceed their Ledge Grab Limit, then the Ledge Grab Limit rule is ignored.
  • In the event of a game going to time and the Ledge Grab Limit can not determine a winner and both teams have an equal amount of combined stocks, then whichever team has a lower combined percent is declared the winner.
  • If percents are tied then a 1 stock per player, 3 minute tie-breaker match on the same stage will occur.
  • If a player is using the character Pokemon Trainer, Lucario, or Sonic, either team may request that team colors be changed to make it easier to tell the difference between team players.
Starters/Neutrals:
  • Smashville
  • Final Destination
  • Battlefield
  • Yoshi's Island (Brawl)
  • Lylat Cruise
  • Pokémon Stadium 1
  • Castle Siege
Counterpicks
  • Delfino Plaza
  • Battleship Halberd
  • Frigate Orpheon
  • Pokémon Stadium 2
  • Rainbow Cruise
Set Procedure
1) Player Priority is determined if it can not be agreed on. (See below for details)
2) Each Team selects one controller port to use for each Player. During Teams play controller ports 1 & 4 and 2 & 3 will each constitute as 'one controller port.'
3) Each Team selects one character for each Player. A double blind pick may be called by any player.
4) The first game is played on a Stage selected from the Starter Stage List either by mutual consent or through the Stage Striking Method. The order of stage striking will be 1-2-1 (Team 1 strikes a stage, followed by Team 2 striking two stages, with Team 1 then striking one of the two remaining stages).
5) The first match is played.
6) The team that lost the previous match may opt to re-pick controller ports (with themselves picking first).
7) The Team that won the previous match may announce one “Stage Ban” if they have not already done so in this set.
8) The Team that lost the previous match announces the stage for the next match from either the Starter or the Counterpick Stage List. Any Stage named as a “Stage Ban” by the either Team may not be selected. No Stage may be used by a Team that has already won on that Stage in this set.
9) The Team that won the previous match chooses one character for each Player.
10) The Team that lost the previous match chooses one character for each Player.
11) The next match is played.
Repeat steps 6-11 for all proceeding matches.

Melee Ruleset:

  • Items are set to off.
  • Stock and Time are set to 4 stock and 8 minutes, respectively.
  • Double Blind*: If elected.
  • Contest Port Priority*: If elected.
  • Neutral Start*: If elected.
  • Standard DSR*
  • Gentleman’s Clause*
  • Forced Character Selection*: Off
  • Matches that time out will be determined by the remaining number of lives, then percentage of the current stock. In the event of a percentage tie, the match should be replayed in full. Sudden Death is not to be played, and will not count.
At player's request, we will be using the current MBR state list:
Starters/Neutrals:
  • Yoshi’s Story
  • Fountain of Dreams
  • Battlefield
  • Final Destination
  • Dream Land
Counterpick:
  • Pokemon Stadium
Stage Bans
  • For Best of 3 sets, each player gets 1 stage ban.
  • For Best of 5 sets, there are no stage bans.

Also, if you're worried about the heat for this event, I have been informed that 3 of the A/C units were being faulty at the last event and they have been fixed.
Plus, it's going to be in October so no worries either way. Looking forward to another spectacular event!

I would say "I'll get you this time Kero!" but I don't plan on practicing or playing much if any prior to this and may not attend if Kel isn't driving down

PS2 nor Rainbow Cruise are both valid competitive stages. The only reason to remove them from a stagelist is if you don't personally like them, which if that's the case go ahead and ban ice climbers while you're at it because no one relaly likes them either.

I don't really think there's anything wrong with them and some other banned stages either, but if they're planning on getting OoS/OoR attendance I think it would be better to go with something everyone else is doing. Unless this is supposed to be a local then it doesn't matter to me lol.

Also Well Seasoned gaming is the same people i'm pretty sure.

I'm firmly of the opinion that Rainbow and PS2 are perfectly fine stages. They're no worse than other stages that are always legal, including Frigate, PS1, Halberd, and Castle Seige. However, someone argued that since they're no longer standard, we shouldn't use them. We're just interested in what the players want.

And yes, this is being run by the same people as last time. Hoboz will have more of a hand in running this one, however. He'll probably be running Melee bracket, rather than me trying to do both at once.

PS2 and Rainbow Cruise are perfectly fine counterpick stages.

I'm going to do what I can to make it to this. Should be here, I don't foresee anything coming up to get in the way. Excited to see everyone here at this! I probably won't be at too many tournaments between now and then, if any.

Yeah, we're planning this to be a regional. Neither of us think there's anything wrong with the stages, but we just want player input on them before deciding one way or the other.

My input is "don't go to tournaments that use bad rulesets because other people have used them before".

Preference has no place in a stagelist. The only people that can attend this event that didn't already are Columbus and MI, and MI won't drive down either way.

I vote keep the stages. More options is a good thing, at Air Bud:Sky High, I know there was no where to counterpick against D3's chain grab.

It's easier to just play better. The jigglypuff players at this event weren't that good. That's not an insult to them, none of us were really "good"; but if you're having trouble with the jigglypuff at this level of play it isn't a problem with their supreme skill of the character and more of a problem with how you approach the matchup.

I'll keep this up as a strong possibility. I need a teammate for Brawl and P:M.

Oh,

I'm also never driving overnight ever again in KY...
