WE WINDY NOW - The Galaxy Chicago announcement

A bunch of good news has hit our community recently. Here's hopefully something to keep it going.

The Galaxy is officially making the move to Chicago. This was done for many reasons and I feel will further the Smash community.

What this means:

-Unless the server really doesn't work out, Chicago will be Galaxy's new permanent home. The server in New York will remain up for a bit under a month, however I would advise everyone to make the switch right away.

-To encourage LAN play, Excellent will be disabled for the first few days the server is up. If you absolutely cannot play on LAN, stay in the New York server and in a few days exc will open up. LAN play means that some users will get 1 frame of delay on the server - is this too much of an advantage over someone with 5 for tournament matches or will spoofing be forced in these cases?

-No one in the continental US should now get over 5 frames of delay on LAN play, Europeans should receive 0-2 frames more of delay.

-Many connections from the west were unstable to New York - the server may help solve this issue.

What this doesn't mean:

-Not all lag/desynch issues will be solved. Galaxy worked without problems for the majority of users in New York, and some of the issues users are experiencing are out of my control.

-All administrative details (admins, mods, bans, etc) will remain unchanged.

Unfortunately the average user does not realize what this change means. The switch might be harder than I first thought. I'm talking to the server guys in trying to optimize the ping to Chicago, in the mean time I may have to take down the old server periodically to make people move. I haven't experienced any DS. People should play on mupen - there less desynching there.

well theres always a packet loss %, and LAN increases the amount of packets so your gonna ds quicker,

Kinda a forewarning, the servers not sending cheats, so you'll all have to reclick the "all chars" cheat like we used to have to. otherwise we'll get a items desynch

especially when spoofing it by 1 would make <3 true.


also, i was playing a 2v2 today and we had generic NYgalaxy sort of lag, hardly noticeable cept every few mins it'd lag to 50fps for 10ish seconds

Each time we did some lagstats, and each time the (randomized) person who was lagging was getting 100+ spikes a second, which on NYgalaxy would have meant 10 fps and 20 seconds till DS, but here it was just somewhat annoying and nothing more

does LAN explode the spike numbers?

This server's great for me at least. The lagstat was ****ing up a little today, but that happened on the NY one too. The lag that Fynal's talking about wasn't server lag (It was MKL[mexican kirby lag]) but the spikes were on everyone. Pretty weird, but not unheard of; I don't think it was a new server issue.

But yeah, it seems like moving it was the right move.

LAN is DS'ing everybody. Everybody will move back to EXC. Unless there is SOME WAY to stop the DS'ing which won't happen, because not everybody is going to have a powerful computer and a super connection.

I have't played a game yet that has desynching, but exc connection will probably open back up very soon. Before I do though, I'm going to reset the server back to EmulinkerSF, just for kicks and see if it makes a difference. Who knows. I just hope that the people who can play on LAN continue to do so even though the other connections are available.

I also think that people should be trying mupen, as that has less chances of desynching. Mupen is the better emulator and people should have switched over a long time ago.

I haven't had MAJOR desnyching, but I've had the normal amount that LAN normally gives. Which is above exc a bit.

get mupen and play on LAN and see if that helps

use project 64k for exc play and p2p (or mupen if you want)

Ever since I moved to this server my tech skill and timing dropped like ****. My ping increased by 30 and my delay increased by 2. My god....I never knew 4 delay was that bad. I actually feel bad for those that are stuck with it.

Haha that's me on the New York Galaxy, but I once did it enough times it actually banned me for x minutes for spam logging in/out lol

7 frames sucks, but there was no way I would play at 9 frames.

LAN as a first pick is fine, but no recourse when your 2v2 ds's like crazy is no fun

Exc connection available late TONIGHT... but please don't switch unless you have to. We wanna keep the masses on LAN for the majority of the time. And also try not to spam people to go back to exc in the main chat, this might be infraction-worthy.

I am lagging a lot more on this new server than the old galaxy.

I am also dsing every 1/2 a match because of LAN. I am very frustrated right now.
