I think Sakurai knows what WD'ing is. Nintendo knew about L-cancelling in ssb64 and that wasn't even known by .5% of players I bet. Much less then the people who know about WD'ing. It was even featured in Nintendo Power. Yes, NP isn't directly connected to Nintendo, but they found out about it. Plus it's not like there isn't a smash scene in Japan...
