Practice practice practice.

Start by putting two human players on, one fox and the other DK. Put on infinite time and handicap, put yours at 1 and leave the other human's on 9. Go to FD and shine->jump->airdodge straight into ground to get the timing down. Then practice with normal wavedash's, and then finally with perfect wavedashes

cping you to Mute at a MDZ tourney
just master the timing and spacing of it
Be able to change the distance, as everyone's knockback is different
I'm a good fox because I'm consistent in wsing, so having this basic down will help you improve a lot

It just takes a lot of practice and patience dude.

But I'll give you some general knowledge.

If I was you, I would learn how to waveshine without hitting anyone first. I believe the shine acts slightly different when it hits someone and when it doesn't. I'll say this now, when waveshining make sure your actual wavedashes are long. You can do this by aiming the joystick as horizontal as possible when air dodging.

You can also try and think of the shine and wavedash as separate if you wish. But when you finally get the hand of it, you are going to start thinking of it as one move.

When you do master waveshining without hitting someone, I'd recommend practicing waveshining Link first because Link goes a very short distance when shined. In fact, you don't even need perfect wavedashes to catch Link, although you still need to make your wavedashes as long as possible. Once you can easily waveshine Link, then do it on Captain Falcon (he goes slightly farther) then finally on Marth.

Good luck!!! Don't quit.

Do you use Y? I find It's 100 times easier with the Y button. Other than that ... Perfect practice makes perfect (lol my teacher says that. I think It makes no sense but It has a point) lol phail.

Edit: Then again practice makes perfect what about nobodies perfect... unless you practice perfectly which is impossible because... I'll just confuse myself

i learned how to do it in place at first in peach's castle or fourside in practice mode with the cpu against a wall, that way i got the timing, after that i practiced moving waveshines on fd, before any of that make sure you can wavedash fluently with fox

I learned how to do this by sitting down determined to learn one Saturday afternoon and kept waveshining Link across FD until I could get him from one side to the other without the "Combo Meter" going back to one. Just practice.

Remember when you are doing it, that running into a shine gives you a bit more momentum improving your chance to hit with the second shine :)
I would just practice on a link, either a lvl.1 CPU or a blank player

Its funny, but here is my honest advice. Now listen carefully, I mean this.

The trick to becoming faster is to actually slow down.

Most people think you have to be uber fast, but not exactly true.

The trick to do a lot of tech skill (for example, aerial to waveshine) is to actually break the moves up.

First do your SHFFL dair/nair, reset the control (don't touch anything basically) and then waveshine. It works. I promise you that you will do it more consistently this way.
Oh and just a heads up. When you get waveshining down, you will be ready for aerial to waveshine. So that was some advice I gave a long time ago. XD

hmm, learning shine to wavedash is different from learning wavedash.

One way to mess up waveshines is to press L or R too fast. Just subconciously wait a little bit to wavedash after getting the shine.

I personally found waveshining to be much easier by shining, then sliding your hand over A to the X and completing the wavedash with R.

Because you're in the shine, the A won't do anything.

That way it's just one sweeping motion.
