For the most part, he's right. There are a few stats he left out (priority for one, weight for another though that could fall under recovery, the force of their smashes) and certain intangibles to consider such as any unique moves or abilities in a character's arsenal, but in general, for the most part, stats alone determine a character's rank in the tier list.

I mean, just look at the top of the Melee tiers. Marth, Sheik, and Fox. None of those characters are particularly unique or stylish. They all fight with basic martial-arts-type moves, nothing fancy. But what they are is just a wall of superior stats. No tricks. No gimmicks. Just straight-forward overpowering effectiveness in speed, damage, combos, recovery, etc. And you can keep on going down the list and watch the trend continue. Peach, Falco, Samus, Gannondorf (not necessarily in that order)... It takes quite a while before you come across a character that breaks the mold.

What traits do we know Wario has? He's not as big as, say, Bowser or DK, but he's fairly hefty. So he's probably fairly heavy weight-wise, probably slow. He's got no weapons. For the most part, he'll probably be using body and martial-arts-esque attacks, but with his short limbs he won't have much range or priority with any of his normals.

There are a lot of poor posts in this thread and, to be honest, we really know next to nothing about how Wario's actually going to play in the game or how effective he'll be, but based solely on speculation considering the facts I mentioned earlier, I would actually tend to agree that Wario is looking like a mid-tier character at best right now.

Everyone you played sucked at the game. The tournaments you went to were noob tournaments. Try placing well with G&W in major competitive tournament lol

Chapter 1: The Blast
Wario dodges once but somehow Samus manages to LCancle her blast. Something Wario didn't see coming after studying his opponent in melee clips! This was a new trick and in Warios mind (at the time), would prove to be his fate! She fired again! Wario never had time to react! Wario is hit! OH NO! He flies nearly too far. To the left of Battlefeild and out of view. He must get back!

Chapter 2: Return
Wario had options at this point but Samus restricted him to move precisely as she fired missles and re-charged another one of her blasts. He had not used his Waft for some time and it had built power beyond Samus's knowledge. Wario drifted towards the platform and quickly fast fell past a missle. Samus expected Wario to use his remaining jump and bring him almost level with her. She jumped off towards the point where he would end up. Before she even left the ground, there was an explosion! Wario Waft! Wario flew rapidly out of the green and brown blast a flew high above the platform. With this distance, he could now reach the surface using simply his jump and flop without needing the ledge. Samus returned to her post and fired a missle. DIRECT HIT...or so she thought! Wario's Chopper came flying out from under him and rammed through the missle straight towards Samus. She dodged it and it crashed behind her. Wario had used his jump before throwing the Chopper and now only had his flop remaining. This was dangerous and Samus backed off slightly. Wario flopped, he inflated, drifting at 45 until slamming belly first. He very well could've hit her but instead angled himself towards the ledge. Samus approached. Only to be pounced upon.

Chapter 3: Finish Her
Wario dropped from the ledge and quickly jumped and spun using his hulla-hoop reflector. This did multiple strikes on Samus and flung her around. She flew off the edge behind him and was spiked to the ground! She was not in trouble for she could still survive from there. One problem led to her demize. As she jumped, out of the corner of her visor, Wario stood upon the edge weilding the Chopper high above his head. This was the end! The Chopper flew at her and exploded on contact! She stood no chance and Wario defeated the last of the Smashers! He IS SmashGod!!!!!!!!!

I think wario would be at least middle tier. his aerials dont look bad and his "unnecessary movements" could really mess up your opponent. how would you feel to have an exploding fart, or a "cute little poot" connect with your character? I think wario will be based on mindgames for the most part, but his moves havent looked bad either.
