Self-explanatory.

We already have:
Battlefield
Final Destination
Smashville
Yoshi's Story

This poll will end in one week, so be sure to vote and tell other smashers! Also try to post your reasoning.

wow this will be biased as hell, for example I think both lylat cruise and stadium are more or less the same kind of stage so I'm between them. falco sucks on lylat and he's good on stadium. mmm I have to think about this before voting.

lylat cruise doesn't change much..pokemon stadium 1 windmill can change a game around =/ I personally wouldnt like stages that change a lot and have physical objects you can hit to be in the main 5 stages

I suspect Halberd would be quite good for it. The midair bit can favour those who can shark from under the stage, but the later section is very simple, so often favours the rest.

Castle Siege has walkoff edges, which I cannot see being a good thing when DDD can get a free kill on that section on 3/4 of the cast from a grab.

Delfino, I'm not so sure on.

Lylat - pretty good, but I'm just not so much as a fan of it as Halberd.

PS1 - The windmill can cause some serious ****. Hardly neutral.

Halberd can kill u. Just because of this it cant be a starter, even u can evade those problems easily.
Castle siege, with stage strike, sounds a nice starter srsly.
Delfino has walk offs, walls, transformations without edges, and a lot of things that make it a cp.
Lylat seems the best for me.
Walls and windmill, they can srsly change a match completely. It has a bad edge too. starter if castle too.
9 starters with stage strike could be nice. But nobody will want it D=

I have another idea, how about it not being 5 but 7 or 9? with these 5 stages + the other 4 we have a 9 stage strike system that's pretty fair imo.

Hum I don't want to be too annoying or anything, but we should have a vote on the number of stages at first...

With the options of 3, 5 and 7 stages.

I figured 5 is a good middle ground between the several dominant rulesets, and 5 or 9 is optimal because the first to strike also strikes last. Striking from a whopping amount of 9 stages takes longer and people will probably have to start using pen and paper then, which is just inconvenient. Considering most people only like LC and perhaps PS1 as a starter out of these 5 stages, adding all of them to the neutral 4 seems silly. The "odd" stages like Castle Siege and Halberd will probably always be taken out first (unless they greatly benefit someone's character), which is a sign they don't belong with the others. Bottom line, I simply can't see how conservative regions such as ours could have anything over 5.

At Cologne is Brawlin' this weekend we had 3 neutral stages (SV, FD and BF obviously) it worked out pretty well, as far as I can remember there wasn't any problem at all (like "who strikes first" etc.).
Smashville was the first stage most of the time, which is reasonable because it's probably the most balanced stage in history of smash.

However I've voted for Lylat Cruise.
Pokemon Stadium favors stalling through transformations, even if it's only temporary.

Delfino and Siege are out of question in comparison to LC and PS, they might be fine if we look for 7 or 9 neutral stages for stage striking, but not 5, same for Halberd.
They are to influential for many Match-ups.

Edit: I do understand and agree with (Gheb's) arguements for PS1, they're all legit and I think it's actually hard to decide between PS and LC (and YI is controversial anyway) that's why I'd prefer 3 stages.

3 stages isn't bad either, TSL was fine with it. ( but not RC and japes as cp, those stages have to be banned -.-)

I don't think 3 would be overly bad, but it's on the extreme side of things. European ruleset needs to cater towards all regions and 5 is still on the conservative side, rather than 7 or 9. Or we could just have all matches start on Smashville. =p

Or we could make a vote, and see if it's and extreme or not in terms of opinion ;)

Alright, make it. You're a mod too, ya know. ;x

If majority is overwhelming, we could go with 3. If it's close, we go with 5. I think Scandinavians would use more stages rather than less and they're hardly on SWF, so we have to take them into account to a certain extent.

In comparison to 7 or 9, 5 might be conservative, but actually we don't have many tournaments using 7 or 9 neutral stages, so it's not standard.
Most tournaments use 3 or 5 stages.

I'm fine with using Smashville all the time =P

I was thinking we have to take into account the possibility of playing against the American scene, in case we'd be disadvantaged the more conservative we get. We don't really mingle at the moment though, so let's see where our preference lies.

I voted for Halberd.

While I see where both arguments for Lylat Cruise and Pokemon Stadium 1 are coming from, both stages, especially though Lylat Cruise isn't really fit for a starter, due to the tilting of the platform, in my opinion.

Also, about the PS-ledges... I think we've gotten good enough at the game to not get ***** by Pokemon Stadium's ledges. I mean, honestly? <_<
Same goes for the Halberd, by the way. "OMG the laser announces! WHAT WE GONNA DO ;_;"? Really?

I'd be in favour of 3 stageset or only Smashville, though.

I already demonstrated how 3 stages + blind strike was more fair conserning the advantage given to the 1st one striking a stage than any other format, so trying to proove that 5 or 9 is better because the same player can strike first and last is fail now. The arguments in favour of the 5 stages set are different.

In the end I'd be in favour of 3 stages, but 5 can be fine too. I voted Lylat.

Even some big american tourneys have the 3 stages ruleset, and tbh I don't think it's that important conserning your point. However that's right as far as counterpicks are conserned.

No. U have said ur opinion.
On TSL, i hadnt blind striked a stage anytime, i always had must to strike like if it was a 5 stages - and this means disadvantage between the 2 players for the one who chooses first. Even with blind strike, 5 is better, since if both players strike the same we have a random choose. Random chose is what we dont want to, and probably both players dont want to play on FD, but one want to play on SV and the other on BF, for example.

5 or 9 are the best.
