New Problem. My stepfather has taken my GC becuz my room was dirty (he usually doesn't give the system back for bout 3 WEEKS)

I can't go a week w/o smash.

But the real problem is that my stepfather has told me and my little brother to never speak to, sit with, look at or be near our mother.
Now I don't understand this and I was told this immediatly after coming out of the shower which is when I'm purified of troubles.
Wtf do I say or do?

Um, are you for real? Like he really said that? You're not messing with us? Cause I'm starting to think that you might be. (no offence if you're not) If thats true that he did that, then thats really messed up.

I'm not lying. Our mom just broke our front door because they were arguing again.
Now my stepfather thinks she's crazy so he told us that. Come on now, breaking a door out of anger wow.
I wanna go to a tourney this and next weekend but I don't have my Controller and my only transportation is cut off from me.

This house has gone totally chaotic. And if I have to call Meganova (my little brother) to prove my statement I will.

OK, if this is true, then you shouldn't be talking to a bunch of random people on a Smash Bros. message board, who's names you don't even know. More like, you need to see your school's councelor. I really think you should, because I, and most likely everyone on this board isn't qualified to give you advice on this. See the school councelor. I don't really know what else to say.

Letz set that roblem to the side. I have my cube back now. (Itz a miracle)

Can someone help me convince my parents to let me hold a smashfest here? (I want to hold these often)
Its not so much about my stepfather but everyone else. My bro says yeah do it. My mom is being a little cautious and I don't have my stepfather's view on it.

I'm tryin to tell em how the smash community is welcoming and friendly. And I said if it were a Halo 2 LAN party, evryone would blow **** up.

Is there a approach to them that'll convince em to allow me to do this?

One thing you definitely want to do is talk about the smashers that are going to college. That shows that we are not a bunch of high school dropouts and we are serious about being successful in the future.

I kinda already told em that. I said this "I'm considered very young in tthe smash community. Most players that have a name are old enough to hold an occupation"

Hopefully I can get these problems over with.

Well I know itz been a while but I have some things to say.

My stepfather has told me that I've wasted 15 years of my life on Video games, and that they're still getting me nowhere. He said that Ken is not the world champ and he says that me going to tournaments is pointless cause I will never win.

I had to relize it myself, that I would never win a tournament in my life. Same w/ all other video games.

So today I'm going to sell my GameCube and all my games, simply because I can never win a tourney, and because my stepfather says I will never win.

So unless someone can convince me to not sell it today, I will sell it to Gamestop.

Dear God, I know I'm never going to win a tourney in my life but there is no way I'll stop... would the Houston Texans sell their football team because chances are they won't win? Video games are for amusement; they are like interactive movies, and who doesn't like movies. I would say keep your Gamecube and at worst put it away in hiding but the day that you want to play it again and you realize its gone will be a sad, regrettable day.
Your step-father has hobbies, right? Well, so do you; no more, no less...

But his hobbies always involve making money, so he only benefits from them.
So when he has hobbies that make money, and my hobby involves spending money, what's the point.

This is something he would say to everyone in this thread:
"If you spent $20 on a tourney so you can fight a pro and lose, would you spend $20 more just to try again, when you know you can't win?"

No! Never give up and just keep trying. That's what I did, and after I have been to 2 tourneys, in December 2005 I won the tourney at Curacao and defeated those **** n00bs there. Maybe you know that you can't win, but maybe you need a little more selfconfidence. Just think you can win and you''ll see.
EDIT: And if you win you get a LOT more than $20, so you'll get it back someday. Just ask for techniques you don't know, and we'll support you (Smashboards)

Do you know how long I've been doing that?

Every tourney I go to that's all that is on my mind, yet I still suck why?
I think I can win all the time, but that doesn't mean I can win.

Sometimes, you gotta think itz just impossible.

Now that will have to stay out of this thread.

Well i can say 1 problem is that I have no practice against anyone who is somewhat ok.
I hafta practice combos on a com. And my lil bro isn't all that good.
One reason why I'm tryin to host my own smashfests.

My main chars are:
1.) Falco (singles)
2.) Marth
3.) Sheik (doubles)
4.) Doc

Chars I play for fun:
1.) Peach
2.) G&W
3.) Samus
4.) Y. Link

Now lets not turn this into a smash related thread, so just PM me your advice.

Hell I got owned at my last two tournys, but thats not stoping me from going to the next one. Just gotta keep practicing and get those skills down. I cant tell you how much the people here at smashboards have helped me. My Fox was horrible but because SB im a worthy opponent. There's so much to learn here. You would have to be crazy to not take advantage of it.

Earning money isn't the main goal of hobbies; it's the main goal of work. Your step-father seems to be a waist deep in avarice. If you enjoy going to the movies and wasting ten bucks there for your simple amusement then it should be no different if you want to spend tewnty bucks at a tournement that you find just a fun, if not more. Same concept.

Haven't seen this thread in awhile.

My Stepfather left on August 4th, so it seems my VG playing problems are over.
THEY'RE NOT!!!!

My real father moved back in w/ us and he hates the fact that me & my bro play VG's.
Everytime we play, he comes up w/ something that needs to be done and starts it w/o us, so when he's done he gets mad becuz he said we were playing games all day.
He has told every1 we know this.

I have stopped playing Smash all together at home, I only play at tournaments and friend's houses. I no longer play my GC or PS2, becuz I have to go to my bro's room to play.
These days I only play my GBA, becuz I can easily put it down or put it in my pocket when something needs to be done.

He thinks that the all I do is: Go to Smashboards, play VGs, eat, sleep, watch TV, and occasionally look at my YGO cards.

I hate the fact that this is the only thought of me he has.
He is the kind of person that you can't change, he stands firm to his opinion, if I am to talk to him about something I think he's doing wrong, he'll resort to SUICIDE becuz itz suppose to be a certain way.

Meh, that's arrogant, extremely stubborn dads for you. Your dad sounds only too much like mine. I'm not even able to comprehend how someone can be that ignorant and stubborn. It really is quite disturbing. I hope never to be that close-minded on so many things.

Seriously, its like everytime I make an attempt not to play VG's when work is present, I get kicked in the *** with "All you guys do is play".

Now my grades haven't been great, but I'm workin on it.
My life lacks excellence, I'm workin on it.
I gave up going to a certain arcade I use to go to.
Just because I'm tired of being "Wrong."

Everytime I'm told I'm doing something wrong, I get really mad, and since I have nothing else to express my anger in, I play more VG's.
Its a trap that I just can't escape. I can't find anything else that can entertain me and can provide something to express my anger on.
I've tried a bunch of things, sports, etc. They all don't work like VG's.

Ka-Master: Yeah, you just stay away from close-minded things like that, but with me, I will complain about something I don't find right, then I'm told "Well all you do is play VG's, Vg's are your God, and nothing comes before it."

I hate the constant negativity, I hate the fact that I'm doing everything "Wrong."

I just don't see any hope, its like the only solution is to never play VG's ever again.
It will take time until I build some positivity in my life, until then my life is completely "Wrong."

Video games: why do we play them?

That has got to be one of the easiest questions to answer:
THEY'RE FUN!!!

You become stupider by playing video games? What should you do instead, bash heads against somebody in football? Video games are safer than most activities, it seems like a smart thing to do ;)
At least you're getting some exercise from that(and respect if you're any good)

I'm not saying playing video games will make you stupid, all depends on how much and how often you play. I see people playing DS in lines for theme parks, waiting for a movie to start, it seems like playing handheld games are becoming as common as listening to an iPod, MP3, and things of that sort.

Dude, just shut up and get a hold of yourself. Ok, you spend money on playing games, SO WHAT?? I'd prefer making no money at all with doing something I enjoy most than making tons of it missing that thing. You are doing NOTHING wrong. Also, you're stepdad is pretty hypocritical. You said he likes movies. You CAN'T win/earn any money when going to a movie. Also, he enjoys horror movies? If there is anything more useless then horror movies, please tell me. The thing is, movies are alot worse than games. When you are watching a movie, the only thing your brain has to do is percepting it. If you are playing a game, you are putting your brain and reflexes to work and that's only good for your thinking (and problem-solving).

Really, you're getting older now, you gotta learn to step up for yourself. You can't go on living when everytime someone says to you "You're Wrong!" and you're just accepting it.

EDIT: Didn't see that your dad came back, but that last point still counts. Just like beauty, 'doing something wrong' is only in the eye of the beholder.
