Vertical survivability and kill percent data

It took me a while, but I have had some time over the break to compile a bit of data I've recorded over time to see exactly how hard characters are to kill vertically. For each of these I used fox's upsmash from the ground, uncharged.

For the data "with DI", I simply held the victim's control stick horizontally to the direction fox was facing, so this should be "perfect DI".
Perfect DI seems at add about 7-10%. Keep in mind if you are close to the sides you will probably be killed earlier, off of the sides due to your horizontal trajectory. All the data I recorded is exactly when the target dies off the top.

All percents are BEFORE the attack. Keep in mind move staling will have an effect-usually 1-3 percent weaker at most, but it shouldn't be much of an issue for a character like fox who has a myriad of other moves to use.


Each time I got a kill from fox's upsmash, I lowered the percent by one until upsmash no longer killed. None of these were done in training mode to avoid accidental charging on the smash. I didn't include every character on every stage because I haven't had the time to do every single one, but all characters have been done on Final Destination, and if anyone wants to contribute data I welcome it. I will add data for horizontal kills later if I can.

horizontal kills are also based on falling speed due to how gravity affects post-launch trajectory

yeah, but honestly, how much of a difference does that make? like 1-3% max?

Did you kill yourself before each usmash? If not, staling would have skewed a good number of your tests. This almost happened to me when I tested %s for shining people off the top as Falco. lol

this is pretty useful stuff though, i have a pretty good feel for when it kills, but in most cases it kills earlier so BAM
