Make sure to stay for awhile! Nobody likes a quitter!

Stuff happened tonight, I'm tired, this will be a weekly thing. With tournaments in the future probably. Need to find a good area in Salt Lake now.

Also, some changes to Gamer's Abbey may be coming. Since I'm being stretched too thin and can't keep up with everything exactly. Will keep you posted.

Hey guys, great fest. The food was super good, too, which was a huge plus. Shoutouts to Net for beating me in Ganon dittos. I'll have to grind some more and/or work on my WOOP-WOOPs as a backup plan. Thanks for the matches, everyone, I think my Falcon actually got decently better today. Maybe one day I can main him.

Also, shoutouts to angled forward tilts

thanks to all those who came out! rob said we're good for next week, so you have your notice @ Hatch Backward Hatch Backward ;-). and shoutouts to @ Snap. Snap. and @SoapSuds for bringing two tvs and @ net1234 net1234 . to all who came, any critiques on what we should do to improve? we're thinking about focusing on one tournament a week (melee on the first week of the month, brawl second week of the month, etc.) so we don't try to fit too much in on a single day. we'll have friendlies set up for all the different games every week though. any votes for what game to do the tournament for next week? we'll keep the $5 entry fee for now, and have half of that money go towards the prize pool. we'll start sign-ups at 5pm and start the tourney at 8pm, since it seems like many people aren't available until after 7pm. does that sound alright to everyone?

@ Tsuteto Tsuteto thanks for saving the day again with your extension cords and power strips. can you update the title and stuff for next week?

Hello people of smashboards! Been smashing for a few months with my friends. but I need to find more people to smash with. I got a car, live in Springville, and I'm down to smash anyone that's within a few towns. Hit me up!!
I'm always down to play. I live in Draper. I don't think there's too many smashers around Springville, unless I'm mistaken. I know it's a bit of a drive for you to come to Draper or Salt Lake City, but we do have fests on a fairly normal basis. Maybe it might be in your better interest to come when there's more than just a couple people playing. Unless you don't mind the drive, of course.

i think 7 might be a little late if depending on how many people are in the bracket. The reason we all showed up so late is it started snowing and then there was a crash on I-15 going south so it took an extra 60-70 minutes for us to get there. I left my house at 4:20 and got there at like 6:50 because of the traffic. 5PM is kind of a weird time to start because people driving from SLC or up north would be driving through rush hour every time. I was wondering if we might be able to get there slightly earlier perhaps? But the $5 going to the prize pool would be nice.

But yeah, I'd definitely be down to drive down every week or two if i'm available.
If you actually do setup a bracket, make it PM yooo. That way when sinz doesn't come I can maybe win something.

The $5 will be split between the pool and venue fee essentially. Still a cash prize though, and is a weekly. This will be for everyone, even if not planning to do a tournament. It's help to pay for employees time and also other expenses, like food.

But it will be weekly, which is good for the scene. Hoping to set up other things, like in the Salt Lake area too. That way our scene can really be brought up more, and it's not this swing of a whole bunch of tourneys, then nothing.

I think starting earlier would be better. Maybe at 4 right before rush hour starts? And as for a game next week I'd say PM since it seems to be the most popular here (that is a guess, and for all I know you guys did that this week)

We'll discuss as to when people can show up and what time the tourney starts. Can run through a 16 man PM bracket in probably 2 hours.

I don't get off work in Salt Lake until 6:30, so it would have to start later for me to get a chance to attend.

Let's do it! Do you have project m?
I do have Project M, but my roomies have some friends coming over tonight and they'll be using the Wii. At the moment I'm trying to get all the technical moves down in Melee that we talked about before. I'm kinda wanting to get better at Melee as my main game before I invest the time to get better at Project M and Brawl. I suck at them both right now lol

1: I really like the idea of one game per week. It keeps the tourneys regular, but provides variety and avoids burnout (if smashers even experience such a thing). Plus I can focus week-to-week on different games. Which could be a nice schedule.

2: Doing one game per week would keep the overall tourney times MUCH shorter than what we're used to. Which would allow for...

3: 7 pm start time to accommodate folks who are working or live in/around SLC.

I know 7 or 8 sounds super late for a start time, but since these are weekdays, A lot of people are going to have work or school, etc. Or at least OkamiFur and I do. But we should get a general consensus on the matter and accommodate the masses.

4: I'm not sure about the entry fee. 2.50 towards the prize money seems silly. But obviously they need to pay their overhead. So I'm game for silly prize money OR a slight increase in entry. Slight being the key word. Actually, nah, the price is good. I don't really care about prize money yet. I'll argue about this later when I'm winning it regularly haha.

Do NOT do round robin if you have 8 or more people.

@ OkamiFur OkamiFur a triple post and a double post on a single page of the thread... you know there's an edit button, right? ;-)

@ Snap. Snap. wow, more props to you for getting through that! the whole venue opening at 5pm thing wasn't meant to be an actual start time. i just saw that smash@xanadu started at 6pm, so i figured 5pm would be a good time to get things ready and stuff. but ya, getting stuck in rush hour would be a pain. i'll be going to game den tonight, so i'll talk to rob and see if he's ok with us starting up around 4pm then.

ok, so let's do a pm singles tourney for this upcoming game den thing. i still want to start the tourney after 7pm since many players can't make it earlier. and i think if we're only doing pm singles, we'll be fine. we'll stick with the $5 entry fee now, but have half go to the prize pool for that day. i want to make the payouts according to the golden ratio, i.e. winner gets 61.8% of the prize pool rounded to the nearest dollar, 2nd gets 61.8% of whatever is left in the prize pool rounded to the nearest dollar, and so on. is everyone ok with double-elimination for the tournament structure? also, we'll keep track of the results so we can actually have an elo rating or something for each player. if we keep track of results every week, we should be able to settle on your actual elo rating fairly quickly, i think.
