Using the C-stick to ledgehop?

Does anyone else do this? I do it sometimes, because it prevents you from fast-falling, and is a nice set-up for a LH fair. I hit down on the C-stick, then immediately hit up on the control stick, followed by a C-stick aerial and DI towards the stage. I only ask because I haven't seen it in any guides or Waks AHTP vids. I realize it would cause problems if you were playing a falco, or if you wanted to LH a B-move, but I find it is very helpful when playing Marth. So if anyone else does this, I was wondering if there were any other disadvantages to doing so.

Meh, sometimes I try it if I have to do something weird (not really sure what but I feel like I've tried it before) but I think I gave up because I kept c-sticking aerials by accident haha

Yeah if you mess up and let go by pressing away from the stage too much, you will do a dair and die, but as long as you make sure to push up and towards the stage, you don't have to worry too much about the timing of it, the c-stick and up on control stick are can happen almost simultaneously. I am liking it a lot more than hitting down, because a lot of times if I don't time the jump right, I won't make it back on the stage after the fair and that in and of itself sometimes kills me. I was just wondering if there were other reasons not to. I find it easier to do that to LH at the moment. Thanks for the response heh.

Is it me or do you not know that you can ledgehop by pushing away from the ledge?

for example if you're on hanging on the right edge on fd, facing left, just move right and you'll let go of the edge without fastfalling. you don't need to do c-stick tricks to accomplish that haha

I know that you can either push away or down, however pushing away from the stage moves you away slightly, whereas if you use down on the C-stick, you will let go and not move away from the stage at all, without having to worry about fastfalling, plus the timing for jumping with the control stick(the only time I use it to jump) was easier to learn for me, as the inputs can almost be simultaneous. When I DI away from the stage slightly, most of the time it is difficult to land on the stage, so I have to re-grab, but with pushing down, either on the C-stick or the control stick, it is easier to get back on the stage and lead into a combo or putting pressure on your opponent. I would have been pretty bad off knowledge-wise if I didn't know that much at least. XD

Yeah it really seems to be a matter of preference, and most people seem to prefer tapping down on the control stick followed by a jump. I was just seeing if there were any disadvantages in high level play heh. Also just to make my last sentence in the previous post clear, I meant if I hadn't known about pushing away, not about c-stick ledgehopping or that pushing away makes landing on the stage difficult. I re-read the post and it seemed I was being pretentious heh.

Is using down instead of away better for ledgehopping? Would it make wavelanding or anything else easier/faster?

@ OP, Yeah i do almost exactly what you do except I use the control stick to go down, then flick it back up and follow it with a f-air. Of usually the opponent is standing too far away for it to do anything though -_-

@L__

Love it. xD
