Discuss.

There are times to use grounded lasers and times not to. I'm going to try and compile a list of times its ok to use grounded lasers.

when sonic and jiggs are charging rollout. maybe after a character uses a move with lots of lag, and they are far away, grounded lasers might give you more hits in since they can't punish anyway. never actually tried it because im too "pre programmed" to do shdls and shls. lol.

The only time I ever use one is against a character with a rollout type move (Yoshi's eggroll, Jiggs' rollout, Sonic's roll, whatever it's called)

Lasers will knock them out of these moves, but sometimes SH gives them a window to get under you and connect. In that case, I'd fire a grounded laser.

Edit: haha, barely too late

Here's another scenario.

When Lucario/Samus is charging their moves. Forces them to move if they want to keep it.

oh right. or if shiek is charging their needles.

EDIT: but still, can't you also shdl instead? since its already my instinct to shdl, grounded lasers are harder for me to do than shdls and shls. LOL

The obvious LASERLOCK needs grounded lasers.

Anything you need the laser to quick come out when a sh laser will be too late (stopping charge up moves). And they gotta be far enough to not **** you while you have grounded laser lag.

Shine works better if within range due to trip chance and pushes them away if they are too close. (And also stops any charging projectiles (eg samus' B)

Right.

Shine obv. if you are close enough for it to connect. If you shoot a laser then the charged move will eat right thru it and you will get owned.

Wow, how the **** did I forget the laser lock? It's not like I never use it either...

I can never get my opponent in laser lock position.

Is it because you don't know how? Or because you don't consciously attempt to get them in that position?

I try to plan out my moves as much as possible, to force them into certain positions what have you. I'm always looking to set something up. I don't always look for a laser lock, but I might be looking for other opportunities for different strategies and techs and such.

nah you should never get your mind set into "this is what i want to do next". i think it is better to know what you can do in what situations and then react to your opponent instead of trying to force a situation into happening. many new falco players make the mistake of always trying for a cg at the beginning of the stock and get too predictable.

I agree with Black. If you're intent on setting up a certain situation, a smart opponent will destroy you for it. Instead, you should work towards your goals, but never at the expense of reacting to your enemy. First and foremost, you counter what your opponent is doing, THEN you can start to set up your traps.

Ground lasers are acceptable when your opponent is planking/ledge stalling.

Even then, silent SHL does the trick. Watch any Sethlon vid when the opponent camps the ledge and he does SHL so that he won't get caught be the opponent doing a ledge dropped attack or something.

Well, I said 'acceptable.' I didn't say 'only.' There are a lot of different options for handling ledge stalling. SK92 runs to the edge of the stage and shields, or short hops, hoping he can trick his opponent into a punishable move.

Different players have their own way of handling edgehogging. But, if you're playing friendlies and there isn't a clock, ground lasers are a perfectly viable method of stopping it. Mainly, it's a battle of endurance, and it's a hell of a lot easier spamming B, than it is edgehogging =) .Typically, the other person will grow bored of it.

If you're in tournement, I guess what I said isn't viable due to a clock. The best responce is probably SK92's. But, as far as I know, this thread was outlining "possible" uses of ground laser. This is just one "possible" use for it, eh? =)

In addition to most/all things said, I'll sometimes use them when across the stage from a big/slow character with no reflector/better projectile than my own.

But I usually use SHSLs and SHDLs too try and land a grab.

I also have a difficult time with the laserlock. I don't consciously attempt it and don't really recognize situations where I could land it.

Yeah, I guess the grounded ones work. You'd want to do it outside of easily punishable range, though.

Side-B Works in almost all rollout situations as well, I think and does more damage.
they do? well i never even considered using it, but maybe iap would work. on the other hand.... lasers have more range and you can fire 2 or 3 if they are far enough away.

I don't consciously attempt. Whenever I do the ledge attack and hope to set up the laser lock my opponent always air dodges n_n. I've only successfully done a laserlock in a match one time and when it was over I said, "wtf i just laserlocked you."

Yeah, for Laser Lock, I find it appropriate when your facing say, Sonic or a fast character, or a character with momentum and you need to at least stop 'em (always happens to me with my friends Metaknight). That or laser lock, really the only times I'd use it.
