I'm late on this topic, but I'm going to answer some of your questions regarding space travel and such. It's actually a good question on why hasn't space travel of any kind been commercialized? Well, for a few reasons. Firstly world governments did indeed up until recently have had a monopoly on the technology. Companies like Space X didn't emerge until relatively recently. And commercial space travel has definitely been something of interest. It's a matter of safety(Astronauts need a ton of training afterall, and they're still at risk) and making it profitable.
And as for the earth being spherical, well, you don't need to go to space to know that. It's been known long before even Columbus. The only thing is I don't even know where to start. Geology itself for instance, just how the Earth works and how we get so many formations. What the earth is made out of.
Don't be afraid to ask questions, it's great to ask questions. Scientists want you to ask questions so they could answer them.
