Hey, I believe them. There's a number of people their age who hasn't been exposed to that stuff yet.

No one I knew ever told me what it was. I had to discover what it was on my own.

That's a perfectly natural fear, but I wouldn't start with the government. Gonna assume you're around my age so I'll talk about my worries. I would start with colleges accepting me, employers hiring or not firing me, jerk parents who hold practically all of my financial power in their hands, making sure the law doesn't screw me over on a crime I didn't commit, etc.

No one is telling you that the political issues of our country or world do not exist or we shouldn't care about them. That would be silly. However, I can't really fight the power but I can at least fight around it. In an RPG, have you ever seen that one enemy in the first area of the game that's like 50 levels above you? You pretty much have to go around it so you can come back later with a better idea of what's going on. You feel? Pick your battles.
