to do a tail spike with up air, pikachu has to be under the opponent because it does sorta like a 360 degree attack. Its about measuring and timing.

I practiced in training mode with 0 to death tail spiking and it works after a few attempts.

As quoted by N64, who starred in the above video (he posted as MentalFly):
"... the uair has an interesting hitbox. It's best to experiment on your own and get a good feel for what part of the tail, and in what part of its swing, will send the opponent in the desired direction, but here are its general properties:

(I'll use a 0'[behind pika] to 180'[infront of pika] scale, with approximations, to represent the tail's position.)

0'-60' = Pops them up and slightly back.
61'-90' = Reverse spike.
91'-120' = Forward spike.
120'-180' = Pops them behind you and slightly up.

As far as how the part of the tail affects the knockback on the opponent, I'm not quite as sure. It seems that it at least slightly changes the trajectory and overall knockback, increasing the farther our it hits."

I wouldn't have known that if it weren't for him.

Yah hiroshi we'll definately do some Pika dittos. And I don't really like this 360 degrees scale. Simpley put, all you have to do is be infront of and a bit below the opponent to tail spike.

Sorry to necro an old(er) thread, but...any other advice anyone can give on uair?
The hit box is so strange. I always think I'm about to get the spike in the direction I need it and then they almost always fly in the opposite direction.

Any tips on practicing it, etc?

Just practice on a fox a bunch. A comp. He's real easy to hit with it. This won't help you land it on a person but it will teach you where to hit the opponent with it so you can later practice it on a person. And if you tail spike the wrong way every time, just always face the other direction :)
