As someone that probably spends too much time on the computer, it was quite the disappointment seeing how slow I typed. This could be partially due to some bad typing habits I have formed, so I took a small online lesson to fix them. My typing speed, well... It got worse. I guess as with other changes, it gets worse before it gets better.

Here's a random typing test I found. Note: You might want to turn your popup blocker ON once you are on the page.
HIT TAB ENTER WHEN DONE TYPING TO SAVE TIME

So, yeah, take the test, and post your wpm (words per minute), and share advice! I'd post mine but I don't want to ruin anyone's appetite.

Record for most impressive:
1st: The Boss of God, 115wpm 0 mistakes
2nd: Goldshadow, 100 words 0 mistakes

100 WPM, no mistakes. I could probably go a little faster on a regular (non-laptop) keyboard.

I'm sure someone will post soon enough putting my speed to shame.

Heh, too late, I already closed the window. I've always been a pretty good typist, but I know a number of people who have typing-intensive jobs who can type much faster than I can.

It's OK if you closed it, I believe you. I just... don't understand how I can get better. And I'm at pretty low level too.

41 WPM with two mistakes... I wonder if there's a comparsion I can find to see if that's average or not to other people... *cough* I doubt it though.

I'm pretty sure average is around 30. But we're on a gaming forum and people that aren't good might not post there's, (like me) so it doesn't seem like that.

The fact that you find that disappointing disgusts me. My excuse is how much older you are than me:ohwell:
Disgusts is a pretty strong word, you know.
Remember that you may be disappointed in not performing your best in your area of expertise, while onlookers may think that you're absolutely amazing because they themselves are not experienced.

I said disgusts because it's all I could think of lol. But thanks for the insight. In other things though once you get it, you get it... Not the same with typing imo

Your speed was 62 WPM with 3 mistakes (adjusted speed 59 WPM)
Your speed was 79 WPM with 4 mistakes (adjusted speed 75 WPM)

when you are done typing the paragraph can you hit enter to stop? I've been hitting the test me button, maye I've been losing time.

Your speed was 85 WPM with 1 mistake (adjusted speed 84 WPM)

I type with my index fingers so I prolly get like 20 WPM.
If you didn't type with your index fingers you'd type A LOT faster. It's also bad to type like that.

I'm pretty sure this is as high as I can go without making numerous mistakes.
Learning to type is one of the best things to learn IMO. It's extremely useful.

32 WPM...hmm. I find it more difficult to have to look at a passage and type at the same time, it's easier when the words are in your head. I do remember in typing class I was around 41 WPM, but I have obviously got worse, or one of the tests was easier/harder.

Edit: Oh, you could tab/enter? -.-

I've hit 96 WPM with a few mistakes. I honestly blame real-time games like Starcraft and Counter Strike when I didn't have vent. You really had to bang out those words to get the point across when you're about to die.

I've been practicing for 4 years and still hover around 33 wpm. I don't know how to improve. I think my hands are too big.

I have the same problem! Another problem I have is typing a key with my right pinky individually.

48 the first time, 59 the second (with one mistake each time, dragging it down to 47 and 58, respectively).

I've got some baaaaaaaad habits.

If I look at the keys while I'm typing, I get a 37 with no errors.

When I forced myself to not look, I got a 20 with no errors...

The way I learned in school was to do these drills. They were boring as hell but they did the trick. You would just practice pressing keys in a certain order. You would start with one hand, and would go through each finger hitting all the keys that that finger were meant to hit. It is good for stretching your hands so you can easily reach all the keys.

I think the best way to practice typing is just to learn the exact positions of the keys and which finger to use them with. As time passes, your speed should improve exponentially. That is how I learned to type. I never took any typing lessons or did any practice drills.

I did the same thing, but I ****ing hated it. And they really didn't work very well. I was taught to type that way in a couple different classes on those kiddie computer games, but it just didn't stick. It's a chore for me to put my hands on the keys where they're supposed to be and make sure I'm using the "right" finger to hit each one. So basically my fingers just kind of go wherever they want. I type well enough to get by, so I don't plan on correcting myself any time soon.

In my hayday (high school pre-wrist injury) I could do 100 words per minute, consistently for an hour. Now, I will be lucky to hit 25 thanks to my condition. I'll give it a try without the brace.

78 without errors. Not bad!

That's why listing the amount of mistakes you have is important too. If someone got 70 wpm, but didn't say their error amount, you'd have to take it with a grain of salt.

78, with 1 error. Not to bad I guess.

It isn't my best, but it's still good I guess.
