How about the Tusconytes!

Hey, so Dark and I are confirmed for Genesis and we are looking for smashers to room with. We'd prefer to limit it to around 2-3 additional people (too many people=not much sleep). Hey Jeff! You should totally room with Team Oblivion again.:)

Are you guys going to a certain hotel? My car will probably want a room and it'd be cool if we were at the same hotel.

Also, I'm going to start confirming for who's coming in my car.

I have a guess, but I would prefer if you guys all confirmed.

My car:
1. Rob (confirmed)
2. Signia (assumed confirmed)
3. Shivknight (awaiting reply)
4. Jetfour (awaiting reply)
5. Raze (awaiting reply)

*Note: Jackie, were you going to drive to my place from AZ? If so, would you be able to bring Dylan if you guys can both go?

Okami, I hope you are joking about your question. Of course we are going to stay at the smash hotel. lol

You must not know then but last Genesis they rented out the hotel right next to the venue. So the whole hotel was pretty much reserved just for smashers. This was probably the best part of the whole tournament. It was hella fun walking out of your room and having everyone with their doors open playing matches. Everyone just walked room to room playing Melee, it was really amazing.

So yeah, if you are not staying at the smash hotel, you really are missing out on about half of the reason why to go to Genesis.

I've never gone to a large tournament aside from Don't Go Down There Jeff. And for that tournament, we stayed at WestBallz's second house. Sorry for asking. :/

attention everyone

let it be known that i am better than forward because i beat him
but forward is still better than gg7 regardless of tourney results because everyone knows he is

therefore, i am better than forward and gg7 combined

in all seriousness, who cares if chris outplaced sean? placing doesn't really mean very much as much as who you won and lost to, and chris lost to sean. yeah, chris beat me, but whatevs

Rankings should be based on how well people do out of state as well. I think that should be the most important factor in determining how good somebody is. Granted, not everyone travels out of state, but for the people who do, I think that should be some benefit.

And Okami, no need to get all emo for no reason.:p

Hey *****es, Cheyne and i are going to get into MBAA. Everyone needs to get on that.

I can emulate it @ 60FPS constant without emulation speedhacks on my ****ty Toshiba Satellite L305D. To elaborate on how bad my machine is:

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 32 bit
AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile TL-60 (advertised as 2 threads, but only one works. PCSX2 effectively only uses ONE of my cores.)
3GB DDR2 clocked @ 333mhz and 266mhz
ATI Radeon 1250x integrated GFX. Internal GPU clocked @ 400mhz (will be overclocked to 500+ once I fix my driver issues.)

To my knowledge, Spencer, Lane, Jordan, Max, Issa, and Rusty all have laptops far exceeding those specs. That is potentially 6 additional players, not counting anybody with a functional PS2 pre-slim with either swap magic, or a soft-modded memory card.

This is based of of Axe's post, but I'm starting this off chronologically and introducing multiple players. Here goes some of it.

My experiences/thoughts on various AZ Melee players
by jetfour

B-Will

I started out on the GameFAQs and came across Shined Blind. I got inspired by some Bombsoldier videos and somehow ended up on Smashboards. I found the AZ power rankings and saw that one of the active players named B-Will regularly organized Tucson round robins and tournaments. I hit him up on AIM and chatted about the Tucson scene, eager to jump in. The first tournament was at some guy's house — Forward, who was supposed to be really good. I watched videos but wasn't impressed, I thought I could do as much as him except for waveshine.

I was still a kid in high school and didn't have a car. My ex took me there and I didn't realize how long tournaments took, I was only there a couple of hours but managed to play B-Will and got him down to the last stock at high percent. He had faith in me and thought I should get a spot on the power rankings, but I hadn't played nearly enough people and just decided to stay off.

Mr. J

Before I even entered a tournament, I saw all the trash talking online. Mr. J was the feistiest one and he had a Toad avatar. I went to the tournament to see if the crowd was actually that rowdy. I expected some fat f*** that was super shy in person. As I was playing some friendlies at Forward's tournament, I came across a mild-mannered Jewish-looking guy in a wifebeater who was glancing at my ex. I beat him solidly and he was a cool dude, it was a relief finding out smashers aren't that much of deecks in person.

Forward

At his apartment, I finally got a chance to meet the legendary Forward. He was a slightly tubby white kid with a dorky haircut, seemed nerdy enough to spend enough time becoming this talented at a video game.

I was too nervous play him with my main though. Falco, I told him. "Smart choice," he replied. I chose Ganon for whatever reason and he picked Kirby. We played on Dreamland 64 and he still beat me. Dat bair spacing. I remember going for a Warlock Kick spike and he said out loud, "that scared me." It wasn't patronizing me or being a douche, he said in a friendly way to a new player without discouraging him. I was glad he was humble. (he definitely never treated me like that one guy who made a whole thread about how Forward is a mega**** who wouldn't stop flaming him on AIM LOL)

I was getting hungry and didn't want to spend all day in a room full of guys so I left before doubles even ended. I ended up not attending any smash event for a couple of years.

Nicknyte

It was freshman year in college so I played with a few people consistently at the dorms. I decided to hop back onto the boards and another university student wanted to smash. When I opened the door I saw this big black man who looked sketch. We were going almost even but I often had the edge with my Falco versus his Marth and sometimes Luigi. I got better than him pretty quickly but it was great having someone to play with who actually knew the metagame. We became friendly rivals and I stitched "nicknyte sucks" onto a bandana to wear on my head everytime I attended smashfests.

We were stoked for Brawl to come out. When it did, I dominated all the campus tournaments. I three-stocked people in finals with my Marth or Snake. The local scene was starting up and I was meeting new faces that were veteran melee players.

AZenith

After one of the the university Brawl tournaments, some guy hooked up Melee. I was so used to s***ty a** Brawl I seriously thought they were playing in lightning mode. I beat his friend James's Sheik with my Captain Falcon then played AZenith, I got wrecked by his waveshine combos... COMBOS. How I missed thee. I ended up going to his house and playing smash for like 5 hours. He's one of the very few people that I can smash with for that long and not get tired of the game since he doesn't get demotivated by my constant **** mwahaha.

Gamerguitarist7

My friend IN2D was more active in promoting the local Brawl scene and he invited some Pit player named GG7 to our smashfest. I met him and didn't think much of it, but he quickly proved himself as the next best Brawler in Tucson. He beat me at a college tournament but I beat him pretty much ever since. Then we started hanging out more and I started playing his scrubby Falco. He had also never gotten drunk or smoked weed before this too, what a newbsauce. Anyways I told him to main Falcon. He didn't even know stomps hit people below platforms. After lots of smashfests, I created the standardest Falcon in the land.
