while I understand that meanings of words are often *******ized with current societal influence, I still feel like that the difference in power between say, ****, and **** for example or some other word you consider a curse word, is significant enough to apply separately. and to be honest whether you say dam or darn or freak of f**k that doesn't really trivialize anything either way. whereas, saying **** casually encourages the casual aura that surrounds it, even if you aren't talking directly about sexual encounters, **** is a word that doesn't have a positive connotation.
even what jonny is saying about how powerful words are great because people give them power I believe is correct, and that happens on the opposite side too like what rob was saying, how a word is just a word then the meaning behind it defines it. however in certain cases words have negative connotations no matter the context like genocide, murder, you know words that usually involve violence of an extreme nature, and I believe that **** is one of those - there isn't a positive way to use it
I agree that there is only so much we can do like what jeff said but still I think we shouldn't use that word i mean i am sure I'm guilty of saying it too but i am going to try not to and i think we all should too
in other news, rob I think that maybe a venue fee would be a good idea once we get tournies running smoothly and on time and while i know that we always wait for the people coming in from out of town to start, maybe the strictness you plan on including will help them get there on time, and ultimately help the tournaments end on time which would then allow for us to do something fun afterward, like dinner or something thats not at crazy hours, especially since usually the out of towners have to drive back that same night. and also slightly bias in my favor then I might be able to come more <3
