One Smash in partnership Tourney Locator have worked together to produce the series: Tech of the Week! This week marks the eigth video of the series in which through a long series of unique google searches (featuring videos from other excellent channels) the One Smash crew learns a bit about ledge guarding philosophies, hug it out, and actually share TWO techs this week! Tech #53 and #55, Coldsteel and Trump Jump!

Even though this is the eigth video of the series these techs are numbers in the fifties. This is because all of the techs to be shared are a part of the One Smash Tech Tree. This makes each video feed of the others, showing how each tech works together to form a complete game. The other videos in the series include Fast Fall Break, Snap Back and Slow Run. A full playlist is available here so be sure to check these out to get the full idea of the One Smash Tech Tree.

SmashCapps hopes that people can use this to better their games on the ledge. To keep up with him and all things Smash, follow him on Twitter.

They just blabber on and on basically about trumping and stuff like that. Basically, after getting trumped you can input a wall jump on frame 2 which avoids you getting hit and allowing offensive retaliation. It's stage dependent though and on most stages it won't work or is so hard to do consistently such as battlefield and smashville. A coldsteel is basically trump+aerial attack usually back air. You can instant grab the ledge by down canceling fast fall+direction of ledge. Also you can buffer a get-up option to avoid getting trumped. So many mix-ups on the ledge created by this trumping system.

sure, they tend to blab, but they do it for the sake of comedy. they're just trying to change things up.

as for [coldsteel], what do you think the timing is that a player can jump? the example makes it look like you can do it almost immediately.

I have mixed feelings about the trump mechanic. On the one hand, I see a lot of players who don't go off stage to gimp, as it's generally safer to wait on the stage for the trump opportunity. On the other hand, it's never exciting to see a player die because of ledge hogging.

As more players get familiar with the mechanic, I think we'll see more interesting mix-ups and reads with regards to ledge play.

Or you can just buffer a ledge roll since you can't really punish those.
Buffering trumps trumping every single time.

As neat of a mechanic as this is, it only widens the rift between characters that can walljump and those who can't. Most of the high tiers (except Rosaluma and I believe Olimar) have walljumps.

Most of this video is just a bad attempt at humor/being witty.

This video should just be 3:00 - 3:20.

When is the tech tree on the website going to be updated? It still doesn't include this week's tech.

These are the 23 characters in Smash 4 with wall jumps, nearly half the cast. Do you not play one of these characters?

Wall jumps are handy but they aren't the deciding factor between good character or bad. But if you want to be sure, just take them to Omega Kalos or Pac Land where you can't wall jump.

Nope.

I play exclusively heavyweights, which at this point are mostly so terrible that they may as well not be in the game.

Again, this is awesome tech, but the rift is only widening. :\
