the air part in pirate ship and ps2 isn't really that big of a problem. It just creates an illusion that it affects the game badly. You're right that the wind part is unplayable but ironically, that is why the stage is playable. The chars are floating so much that no one ever actually hit each other during that part. You can also use moves that make you fly higher (marth's forward b, falcon punch, etc.). If you notice, the wind part in ps2 comes and people start saying stuff about it. Then, if you actually look at what's happening then you can see that nobody is even fighting.

Due to that, the flying part kinda get nullify completely like it almost doesn't even exist. A smart player who understand the stage can avoid a hit in that part until the stage changes back really. When I tried it out with falcon, I just jump then falcon punch then double jump then falcon punch. Then slowly fall down.

Same goes for pirate ship. People do try really hard to fight each other during the wind change but at most like 2 aerials will hit during that transformation.

As far as Pictochat, like I've said, no matter how deterministic or balanced the stage may be, the fact that you have to deal with hazards almost the entire time detracts too much from the game. It becomes too much a test of that junk and not of fundamentals.
.
As I have already explained, the same thing is true of Luigi's Mansion, yet the stage is allowed pretty much every tournament. It's not that the stage is horribly unbalanced, it's just that the stage is testing skills that are so far removed from the rest of the game. Just like what you're saying Pictochat is like. So why is it not banned? The only conclusion that I can come up with is "testing skills that are removed from the rest of the game' is not a bannable offense, at least if think Luigi's should not be allowed. Anytime you watch a video of a Luigi's Mansion match, the skills being tested are teching and being able to survive and exploit the one opening the stage that lets you kill someone upwards. The stage does not test spacing or reaction speed very much because it doesn't matter if you outplay someone 100% to 250%, you can survive to 250%, be completely outplayed (other than your ability to tech) , then somehow find a way to get the kill and win the match. I don't see how this is any different from pictochat. Infact, you can even be really smart and break down the entire stage, and 20 seconds of camping by the other person will yield the stage back to full health. IMO far more removed from the game mechanics than Pictochat, if you take into account stages with hazards like Halberd, Pirate Ship, Norfair being allowed sometimes, Luigi's Mansion is the ONLY one of its kind in the entire game that is ever allowed, so it boggles my mind why it's allowed when we are banning stages like Corneria or Pictochat. Fighting on Norfair, Corneria, Pictochat yields a match more more similar to fighting on a neutral stage than fighting on Luigi's Mansion will.

I never have advoacted Luigi's Mansion being on; I'd like to see it banned. My earlier response to you was questioning the statement that Luigi's or Castle Siege on necessarily implies Pictochat and Distant Planet on, which I might agree with you on for Luigi's Mansion, but Castle Siege is hardly worth complaining about at all.
