I'm rather shocked at some of you guys. Rather than post your top 20s and give opinions and arguments and general intelligent discussion. Most of you just assumed this would turn out bad and turned this into a civil debate. If this thread derails again I'll probably have to close it but I think it does have potential. What's wrong with a little bias? After the top 4 or so it is pretty much all bias.

I should be first on this list and lemme explain to you why.

Mang0 is sort the default #1, but:
Mang0 lost to JMan at Mass Madness
JMan lost to Swift at No Johns
Swift lost to HazZarD at Frumpy Shrubbery
HazZard lost to XYT at No Johns
XYT lost to me @ Smashtastrophe

So.... CLEARLY, I should be #1 on this list.

Mango lost to Shiz, Shiz lost to M2K, and everybody has to lost to M2K, making them all equal, and if I've beaten some people who would get beat by M2K, then they're all bad because they're equal and I can beat everybody except M2K. Therefore, the new list should be:

etc: the rest

I knew I would forget someone or two but. Honestly, post your list Basically other than the top 4-5 players you can basically go to any region and their top 3-4 players can probably play pretty well against other regions (unless said region has multiple top 5 players ie MD/VA).

without mlg driving players to travel, interregional play is just too rare. its impossible to say for sure who is better between most players from different regions, and availability of videos causes certain players to be vastly overrated

im not going to make a list because, as most people have stated, after maybe 10 tops its pure speculation and guesswork

having said that, that might not necessarily be a bad thing.

topic isn't bad in theory, but big tournaments aren't common enough right now D: top 20 is kind of large considering how few people actually travel consistently.

maybe we should have some big tourneys or something lol

Way to be thread bashing. oh well, I figured this would happen. Its keeping me entertained though.

It is all speculation and guesswork, I want to see what different people think.

I also know that putting two people against each other that will never play has no purpose, but its all a matter of perception.

MLG needs to take back melee! and National tournaments need to come around more =)

The only input I have (for all of you saying person A hasn't played person B, so you can't know for sure who is better) is that just like how Character 1 having a good matchup against Character 2 does NOT mean Character 1 is higher on the tier list than Character 2, if person A has beaten person B, this does NOT mean person A is necessarily better than person B. An example (albeit a bad one) of this is Mango vs M2K. Mango gets inside of M2K's head or something and M2K doesn't play as well as he does against other people (or can't techchase as well).

tl;dr: Beating someone doesn't mean you're better than them. Especially when you take into consideration the characters you're playing, if you're having a good/bad day, and many other variables.

Power ranking should be based upon tournament standings in general.

Note: I'm from the Beast Coast, but a Mango fan myself. And I think KDJ is ****, so he deserves a spot somewhere.

KDJ stopped playing Melee a long time ago...IIRC he tried getting back into it at RoM but he just couldn't do it and he placed horribly there.

9th is far from terrible, and he beat Jman in bracket. He didn't even 'try to get back in', he found out about it and decided to go after some pressure, and practices the game about as much as Chu (not at all).
