Too realistic?

How do you guys feel about the level of realism they're putting into the characters? (i.e. Yoshi's fingers, IC/Fox's furriness, texture of mario's overalls, etc.)

Do you think it's a bit much on some characters?

I like the overall visual improvement on the characters. I really don't see what the problem with making things more realistic is.

i don't see anything wrong with how realistic they look right now. now if they gave yoshi claws or something like that, that could be kind of weird i suppose.. but the detail on mario's overalls and fox's fuzzyness, stuff like that doesn't really bother me.

I don't mind graphics being realistic, the better graphics the better. Besides, you can't get too realistic with a character like Yoshi. :p

When the storyline is too realistic and dark though, that's a different story.

I just don't care for the look of playables compared to non-playable characters... since not MUCH detail s put into pokemon... especially Piplup. *shakes fist*

But other than that, I can dig it.

Right... I didn't like Link's look at first. Look like he just got dirtier.

Well, is OoT model from Melee was rather bright and "clean..." but when he was transformed it his TP model... it looked like he had been through a few battles in the mud. But it's just the realism.

Try looking at the first trailer again and try to see what I mean. lol.

if anything, the realism ratio has been much more balanced out than in melee. in melee, specifically the mario charaters, looked way to realistic. escpecially bowser and peach. and yoshi to a certain extent.
in brawl, however, the mario characters now look more cartoony, and true to thier own games. and the more realistic characters, now actually look realistic. samus is a lot more shiny, link has tons of detail, and snake just looks like he's ready to hop out of the screen and slit your neck.

fox is a weird one. his graphical look has changed over the years. he looked cartoony in star fox 64, looked a bit more realistic in adventures, looked very realistic in assault, and then he went back to being cartoony in command. so I say his brawl look is a perfect blend of cartoony and realism. his fur is furry but his overall look is cartoonish.

Well, since everyone agrees that the changes are for the better, is there such a thing as too much detail in this type of game? I mean, what if falcon has rippling muscles and huge veins and a leathery texture to accentuate his muscles? Is that too much?

I think he looks the most realistic, and I like him!

Compare him to Ike, and you can easily see the difference. What did Sakurai do different to him?

He followed the artistic style of the character from their respective games. Ike and other Fire Emblem characters have an anime look to them, so he adapted an anime apppearance. Snake, on the otherhand, is designed to look like a real human in his games, so his appearance in Brawl makes him look much more realistic.

I think his new design is ok....but his Assault design is the worst...even worse than his original SNES design....IMHO

Graphics and appearance aren't all that big a deal to me. Nice to see graphical updates on the characters though.

What are you talking about...Assault fox is the worst design of them all
At least Assault Fox has no triangle head or clown boots. Nintendo turned sloppy with Fox once Star Fox Command came into play, and it went downhill with Brawl Fox.

Basically, Command Fox is ugly, but Brawl Fox is the worst design ever in my eyes.

Dude no they don't. It looks like he just went to Ronald McDonald and asked "Hey, I like those. Where'd you get them and do they come in leather?"

There's nothing wrong with a graphical improvement. Comparing some models from Brawl to Melee makes me wonder if I could ever go back to Melee-graphics.

Yeah, playing Melee on a high definition TV is also somewhat disappointing.

I personally like the graphics so far (except maybe Fox's character design). They should have gone with the Adventures look (or maybe Melee with more detail or something). :ohwell:

Graphical changes are NOTHING to complain about.

Especially if most of the characters look better.

I never liked Fox, never will, so whatever. But the "realism" is good.

Personally, I'm not too crazy for Mario's new design. I think it's too faded, as I always imagine Mario wearing bright-colored clothing. Likewise with Peach. Bowser, however, looks pure awesome. Yoshi's more humanoid design sucks, though.
Link and Zelda look perfect. The TP designs are plain awesome, and far more suited to the characters than Melee's models.
I've always hated the Zero Suit - it's cool that they can make a respectable armorless Samus, but the Zero Suit just doesn't work for me. Especially the hair - it makes sense for Samus to tie her hair back, but the style's just ugly.
Fox looks okay. As someone else in this thread stated, it's a blend of the cartoony Command design and the more realistic Adventures/Assault design. It works for him, because a futuristic pilot fox-man should be at least somewhat cartoony.
The Subspace Army looks pretty generic, frankly. Other than the Ancient Minister, they look like someone shopped a few sprites together, then rendered it.

Probably brawling
... We didd pretty well in graphics for Melee, are you suggesting we leave it there? Graphics don't make the game, but they do make it look nice. It's for the better
