Baah. I never keep these threads up. But here's hoping I do for a little bit at least :] Haha.

So yeah, doodlings and things that I've done over the past year or so that I feel like chucking up. :]

These two pieces were initially gonna be for my work place (a restaurant), but they decided to go with a more experienced designer, so I just mucked around with them to my contentness. Haha :] Yeah my CGskills are to be desired, but I had fun with them.

Friend wanted me to sketch an idea out for a tattoo for him, so this is what resulted. Hahaa, he loved it. :] Got lazy with the hands and he wasn't sure exactly what he wanted him to do with the hands either.

And a cute dragon or two <3

Haha I get lazy with hands and paws and the like too.
Cool stuff, I have yet to try my hand at dragons. Cool tattoo design.

I highly desire that cinnamon hair[-ed lady]. Great work, TM! Now for a couple quick critiques.

Firstly, the dragons. You obviously have a sense of form and texture when it comes to these drawings, but to be honest, they are very flat. Whenever I see a piece of art depicting some sort of beastly being (dragon, bear, mammoth alike), I see the artist challenging themselves with channeling a very breathing, and usually enraged emotion into a bestial form as a means of exercising their wild feelings. I've done the same myself. Seeing as how the dragons aren't depicted in an actual world (meaning they aren't drawn in 3D, but rather as profiles), you've tasked yourself with the challenge of, "can I draw the shapes and textures of the dragon," rather than, "can I animate the dragon". That is exactly what you must do with your next dragon, or whatever beast you may choose. Channel whatever feelings are connected to it (maybe it's simply a lust for medieval fantasy, who knows, but there's definitely something) into a convincing, living, and potentially threatening creature. I want to be able to see it and feel the dragon coming off the page, rather than see it flattened onto the page.

Don't draw the dragon as if you are seeing it, draw it as if you are it. Also, don't draw with your wrist, draw with your shoulder, and much larger. Don't worry about texture, but rather form and movement. Do not use an eraser if you use graphite, charcoal, or the like. Simply focus on strokes and you'll bring to life your beast.

Keep up the wonderful work, TM! I'm really anxious to see your future pieces :) (and sorry for no second critique, but I must get back to my own work!)

Oh, thanks for the replies guys :]

Thanks for the advice Spire :] I like the idea of drawing with your shoulder instead of the wrist :] I'll try doing something soon!

This is just a doodle I did after watching some Vampire Knight anime, so I felt like doing some vampire, blood sucker thing. Haha :]

Hey Thunder, just wondering: do you have formal digipainting training or are you self taught? I was thinking about learning some DP myself.

I'm pretty much all self taught, pick up things from here and there and hints and suggestions from people :] I went through a stage where I read a lot of magazines, like Fantasy FX, which is pretty interesting and used to read a fair few tutes, but in the end it's fun and easy enough to just experiment and try stuff out :]

I don't know if you've ever heard the phrase "Draw what you see, not what you know"? I know Spire has (I'm assuming). It is a term that generally gets thrown around a lot but never explained-- the artist is to forget what it is he/she is drawing, and simply draw it. Now this can hardly be applied to your situation directly because you aren't drawing from life-- but it is important to all drawing, or painting, or any copying of an object onto a flat surface.

If you already know this I won't go on--but if you want to hear me ramble about art and drawing then just give me the pass

Are the peppers 3d? I've never done 3d work so I wouldn't know how to do anything like that.

Haha, yeah heard the phrase before :]

I know my dragons are very flat, but I think I tend to do them like that because I'm usually just workin on the anatomy and trying to get that right. If I"m happy with it, continue on to put in the details. But i'll try drawing them with more life next time :]

The peppers are photos that have just been photoshopped in, so the first two images are like photoshop collages essentially, haha :]

Well then I'll just say that that knowledge of actual animal anatomy helps a lot when creating your own beasties

I haven't studied a lot of animal anatomy myself, only humans.
