Robin's bthrow, tho.

It has always amused me. Something about how she does it just emanates with swag.

Yeah I'm really enjoying Robin. He was surprisingly easy to pick up for me he kinda feels like Ness/Marth Combat wise which I love.

Doing so well with him already online.:4robinm:

I wish Smash 4 had more gravity, though.

It's not about combos necessarily. It's just that people float away whenever they are hit, which actually elongates combat with how much time people are spending away from each other. Wish Smash 4 had about 30% more gravity. Just need to tweak some of the characters like Little Mac to make it work.

Also, seeing @ ~Radiance~ ~Radiance~ 's avatar reminds me of @The Soulless One. Our darling. ;~;

And I have near 70-ish more.

<3 Nah-sama.

At any rate, Robin certainly is interesting, it will take some time for me to get used to switching tomes and the Levin Sword and all that.

Glad she's strong though.

@ Hong Hong sorry I haven't been around much, college kind of took over my life. :c

The game feels as floaty as Brawl for me (which I'm actually OK with), but the characters are really speedy with their fast falls. I've noticed this with Luigi.

As for Robin, he's incredibly enjoyable to play as. It just feels natural to play as him. When I first played him, I got used to him pretty quickly. I'm definitely going to do my best in maining him.

So everyone plays Robin naturally while i'm struggling to win against Ganondorfs?
...I have failed as a tactician...
I'm in the same boat for some reason. I can do fine against most things, but I have yet to winagainst any Ganon I fight.

It's weird.

I think Ganondorf is at least "okay" in this game. His movement is slow, but his attacks are respectably fast... at no expense of power.

They surprisingly nerfed the hell out of his down b I used to be able to KO out of that in Brawl, now its extremely difficult to kill any thing with it.

Edit - Repair prices are ludicrous. For now I'll just put a bandage or some tape over my thumb whenever I want to play Smash, and hold out for a New Nintendo 3DS next year.

Quick bits.

* @ ~Radiance~ ~Radiance~ , good seeing you here.
* @ Hong Hong , that sucks. Heard of some respectable results with superglue, if you're careful - preferably if you have an applicator.
* @All, FC's over to the side, add me at will. I keep odd hours and play odd times, but if I'm on I'm in.

oh dang thats no fun. ive been going easy on my pad cuz of that

I had some decent games today, forgot to record any of them though lol. really liking the arc fire thoron trap that seems to be getting me a lot of damage and even kills, and working more on landing those levin bairs. also seems like for a lot of the time usmash oos works pretty well when being close pressured since nair oos doesnt do much damage/doesnt hit many people and his grab range just fails to grab many times (also if they arent facing you and you want a punish dur)

yo red, nice to see you here. planing on picking up the scale tipper?

@ Hong Hong Gee whiz, and after just getting into Smash 3DS (I think)? That must suck hard. I really want to play a match with you whenever you have the time, so please let me know!

Robin is a little tricky in trying to get used to, but I do not consider her to be bad in any sense of the word. She is still going to be one of my SSB4 mains (alongside her significant other :4charizard:), and I've already won plenty of matches with her online after an hour's worth of training.

Drat... How will I get Hong-Senpai to notice me now by putting up a good fight...? :sadsheep:

Joking aside, that really sucks. I've heard that people have broken them in the past, but that thing just sits so sturdily on my 3DS that I thought they just mishandled it massively.
Then again, I did get myself a 3DS XL together with Smash and I'm not sure if that thing is affected as well or just the original 3DS model.

Honestly? Only played Robin once so far. Which is weird, thought I'd tip a lot more scales with the opportunity. We'll get there though.

I prefer a close-range playstyle overall; I've got eyes on Greninja, Mac, and 'chu for that. Took Mac against my homie last night and tore up from the floor up until he nearly ragequit. I'll take Robin against him once I get some practice in, see if I can't do it again.

Also that is a phenomenal cosplay good sir.

Well, I've put in enough work with Robin to say he/she's one of my best characters and helped me improve my pitiful for glory win/loss ratio from below 25% to 35%.

I have to agree with level 9 AI a bit. If I go Lucario, I can two stock them with a bit of difficulty because this plays RADICALLY different than Project M. This game is very defensive. I actually got incredibly flustered trying out the Brawler Mii earlier. Brawler Mii just feels so damn natural to me. However going up against someone like Dark Pit was just incredibly frustrating.

Try to aerial approach? Shield grab.
Fsmash on shield by accident? Fsmash from opponent.
Land a grab/attack and ready to follow up? Constant air dodging that produced no risk.
Whiff an attack? Dodge perfectly behind you and grab/attack.

This game's defensive options are just way too good. I'm actually afraid to commit to anything in neutral or counter play. If the level 9 AI can do this, then watch it grow worse against human players with more experience. I just hope this changes once the metagame develops. I'm fine with game play like this. Just let me combo.
Alright, so all of these things can be explained by you not understanding your options well enough.

1) Space better, and you won't get shield grabbed.
2) Brawler's F-Smash has HORRENDOUS recovery time, so yes, you should expect that.
3) It's not 'no risk' airdodging. Airdodging into the ground gets you hit. By something like D-Smash or dash-attack, especially.
4) Don't whiff? lol

It sounds to me like you're just not very experienced with the character and blaming it on the game's mechanics. >_>

Having played the game, I like how Robin plays.

Still need to get good at using him. Anyway, some impressions and observations:
- I feel his sword has shorter reach compared to other sword users. I think this hinders my skill, since I'm used to playing as Link or Marth since Melee and I often end up using his sword moves too far.
- His dash attack is a little silly. lol
- Thunder is a very versatile move. It's not always a good idea to charge it to Thoron. Arcthunder is pretty good too and deals good knockback.
- Nosferatu is quite risky. If you can't hit with that move, you're leaving yourself too open for your own good.
- Besides Pit and Dark Pit, Robin seems to be the only other character to have both a 3-hit AAA combo or a multiple hit combo. They do use separate tomes. The three hit combo uses fire while the multi-hit uses wind, so if you don't have one of the tomes, you can only use one of the AAA variants.

I'm not sure if this was posted or not. But GameXplain posted this.

Some fighters has some secret personalized sayings when they beat a specific characters after a 1-on-1 match.

Let's see what the Robin's say when they defeat Lunica.

@0:04 :4robinm: says: "Lucina, I hope I didn't hurt you."

Aww.. that's pretty sweet. :3
@0:50 :4robinf: says: "How can you protect Chorm, if you can't protect yourself?"
(Play all the videos at once for full effect)

My goodness, so sorry to hear this. I hope ya get it repaired some way or another soon enough instead of having to wait like you're presuming. Nintendo better be taking notes of this issue though, really.

1. I do have some issue with spacing, but nothing I can't fix by understanding hitboxes and practicing my spacing.
2. I very well understanding Brawler Mii's ending lag. I don't just throw it out immediately in neutral excepting it to hit. I bait it it before hitting with it. My issue stems from the shield drop frames. It's like they're almost nonexistent. I have had FIVE different cases of whiffing an fsmash on accident with the 3DS controls on a level 9 AI. They shielded it, and I almost immediately ate an fsmash in return. Characters include Lucina, Dark Pit, and even Ganondorf...
3. The "no risk" air dodging refers to the ability to constantly air dodge. If you read my post more closely, then I said grab or attack ready to follow up. Most moves that you follow up are ones that launch, correct? I'm having many issues, even with my practice partners, with the air dodge mechanic with how aerial dodges flow into one another. It has nothing to do with aerial dodge lag into the ground. I can punish that just fine. I can bait out aerials and STILL whiff.
4. No comment for a no comment.

I'm nowhere ignorant, nor incompetent, with the game mechanics or Brawler Mii. I play Captain Falcon as a secondary in Project M here in nearby tournaments for cash when I can catch a ride. Brawler Mii is incredibly similar. His fair, nair, and uair all auto cancel for follow ups. Dtilt is an incredible set up option at low percents. Smashes are somewhat functionally similar. He's not too far off from Captain Falcon in Smash 4 either.

I understand the game mechanics just fine as well. I played Brawl almost daily for three years after it launched, and have been playing since Smash 64 launched over 15 years ago. So this game's mechanics are something I'm familiar with, though just really rusty with. I've been studying competitive play under an active N64 Smasher who scores well at APEX, and he also knows about Melee and Project M play (admittedly after I got him into it).

So why is it always the same "You suck in X manner." comments if I just bring up the game's defensive mechanics after I said I'm fine with them, yet I just want to combo yet the mechanics inhibit my ability to do so?

I actually think it's related to cold damage. Earlier this year, we had -50~ temperatures in the morning and I had to wait at the bus stop for ten~ minutes. As soon as I got on the bus, I would play my 3DS which was probably a really bad idea.

Don't worry, that's how I felt too! I couldn't play as Robin for about a week after I got the Japanese version. I was much better at Dark Pit and Lucina. Suddenly, something just clicked and now he's my best character. Practice makes perfect

I don't at all mind Robin cosplays without a wig. Kind represents part of what made the character who s/he originally was, to be customizable.

That.
Also wigs usually look really cheap unless you get the expensive high-end stuff.
