****. I lost Chapter 10 of Conquest on turn 10! Victory was almost within my grasp!
I feel dis. On my third try, I lost Beruka to a misstep on Chapter 10 Turn 10 and said **** it. I'll see her in Revelations. Man, Conquest has certainly delivered on the challenge front.

It feels like a Tellius game in terms of gameplay and difficulty, and it's been wonderful. I'm actually about to finish, and look forward to seeing how Birthright is different.

I've considered turning him into a Lodestar... Do you think I should?
I remember reading on Serenes Forest that Odin makes a good Dread Fighter... I don't know if Dread Fighters are available yet.

Literally "Odin Dark" has not survived a single map except chapter 10 since I got him...
I guess it varies on person to person. Odin did just fine on my runs of Conquest chapters 8 and 9. He fell in battle on chapter 10 but so did everyone else except for Camilla, Selena, Beruka, and Mozu.

odin was dead weight for me from the chapter I got him

literally his only noteworthy contribution was manning the magic ballista in ch10, I dropped him immediately after that

zero/niles turned out really awful too, he still only had 9str by the time I'd promoted him to adventurer I think, but at least he can double+capture things and has high res/mov

I'd be willing to play you sometime, though idk if I'd be of much use, I'm kind of trash.

Also idk if you're aware of it or not, but part of your issues with Robin stems from the characters you play; DK, Bowser, and Zard are all MUs in Robin favor, and not exactly by a small margin either.
Thanks, I'll be sure to add you. Even if you aren't too hot, I just have extremely little experience VS Robin period.

My ID is Romancedawn.
I was about to post this comment, but you :4greninja:'d me.

Robin's zone/denial game is STRONG. Getting in with any of the slow characters is pure pain. The biggest issue is 2 of your three perform best as bait and punish, and Robin will happily stay clear away from you. A good tactician has nothing to fear.
Oh yeah trust me I know. I mean I have 3 secondaries that fair much better against him/her but I'd still like to not feel totally helpless when I play against them. Like I said above, I just have very little experience against Robin.

If you bought either of the paths as dlc you get Dread Fighter. If you buy one and then buy Revealtions you get an Ebon Wing.

So I lent out the SE version of Fates to my cousin since I wanna beat Awakening before playing it and he didn't wanna pay for it without hearing about it or testing it himself. He messaged me on Skype about it after 2 hours of playing and then told me what he thought of it and we discussed a few other things. I'll leave the conversation in a spoiler below for anyone curious but I will warn that for anyone who hasn't played Fates at all yet and for anyone who hasn't played Radiant Dawn, there is some spoilery stuff we say in regards to both. As I said, he's only 2 hours into Fates though so odds are, a lot of you are further than him.
Cousin: So I am playing Fates, played about two hours worth so far.
Krysco Pew: Conquest or Birthright?
Krysco Pew: Or Revelations?
Cousin: Well, that's the thing. Since you gave me the special edition, I have not actually chosen yet. Basically you play through the beginning of the game and witness both sides of the story, you witness Hoshido and Nohr, and after a lot of story is revealed there is a big battle
Cousin: and then that is when you choose who to fight for

Krysco Pew: Ahhh
Cousin: normally Corrin would choose on his own
Cousin: but since the special edition, I have to choose.

Krysco Pew: Nice
Cousin: There is a third option though, and that is Revelations, which is the neutral option, don't fight for either.
Krysco Pew: Neat
Cousin: So far, the story is really good, surprisingly good actually. It's actually quite different from other fire emblems, feels unique.
Cousin: Hopefully it stays that way though.

Krysco Pew: That's good to hear
Cousin: Though, one thing that kinda sucks though, it's similar in a way to New Vegas, you choose who you want to side with. But clearly one is the bad guy and one is the good guy. I mean, there are good people on the bad guy side but the leader is your typical FE mad king douchebag, so it is really one sided.
Krysco Pew: :/
Krysco Pew: Ahhh RD
Krysco Pew: The only ****ing game to get it right
Krysco Pew: No mad king in that game at all
Krysco Pew: I mean, Begnion is largely evil but it's not just 1 guy
Cousin: Like I want to do Nohr, but I don't want to be lead by a ****tard :/
Cousin: And I don't know what revelations is like
Cousin: and once you choose one
Cousin: you can't go back xD

Krysco Pew: Well
Krysco Pew: I'd say ignore story reasons
Krysco Pew: Birthright path has infinite money
Krysco Pew: Conquest doesn't
Krysco Pew: Neither does Revelations
Cousin: I am going to try Revelations.
Cousin: We'll see what happens.
Cousin: oh

Krysco Pew: Nah bruh
Krysco Pew: From what I've read
Krysco Pew: You wanna pick that one last
Cousin: Yeah the game just told me that xD
Cousin: I can pick it
Cousin: but it recommends strongly I don't.

Krysco Pew: Yeah, don't
Cousin: Well Nohr it is, not the one I choose for story, but for gameplay.
Krysco Pew: I'd pick Conquest
Krysco Pew: Unless you really care for the Birthright story that much
Krysco Pew: Is the gameplay fun so far at least?
Krysco Pew: Like, has the new weapons and weapon triangle ****ed it up majorly?
Cousin: I have not really had enough experience with it to truly say, but from a beginning player point of view. It is alright, it's nothing immensely different so far, very similar to Awakening's combat. However there is one touch that is pretty different.

If you are beside a ally, that ally will always attack. Same with the enemy, their ally will always attack, it's not RNG like it was in Awakening. However they can still miss with their attack and their attack is I think half damage from the usual.

Krysco Pew: Ahhh neat
Cousin: so you hit, then ally hits, then you hit again if you have speed.
Krysco Pew: Sweet
Krysco Pew: That sounds pretty cool
Krysco Pew: Too bad rescue is still gone :/
Cousin: Pair up is still in it. But not rescue.
Krysco Pew: Yeah, I know
Krysco Pew: I honestly preferred Rescue
Cousin: Same.
Krysco Pew: Stat buffs are nice but only mandatory in Lunatic
Cousin: I did get to see Corrin shapeshift his limbs.
Cousin: but not in combat yet xD

Krysco Pew: Is it explained?
Krysco Pew: Like he's part dragon or some ****
Krysco Pew: But like, is that it?
Cousin: Yeah so far from what I can tell, he is the hulk. When he gets mad he goes bananas and goes dragon on people.
Krysco Pew: LMAO
Krysco Pew: The hulk xD
Cousin: Then you get a dragonstone and can control it, instead of only doing it when he is mad, but I have not been able to use the dragonstone yet.
Krysco Pew: Ahhh okay
Krysco Pew: Like a manakete in training
Cousin: So yeah, story is good so far, combat is good so far. We'll see if it lives up and doesn't water down. And that thing about changing the environment I got to experience as well.
Krysco Pew: Oh right, that thing
Krysco Pew: Another thing about story choosing
Krysco Pew: Birthright has a lot of Rout Enemy and Kill Boss stuff
Krysco Pew: Conquest has more like defend this and that
Krysco Pew: So depending which side ya pick, the game could water down pretty fast
Cousin: Hmm, this actually goes to show one really particular flaw of this game. And that is, it doesn't explain much. Like when you first start the game and make your character you have to choose a "Boon" and a "Flaw" just like in Awakening. But It doesn't just say
Cousin: "Magic"
Cousin: it says "Clever"

Krysco Pew: Ehhh
Krysco Pew: That sounds really dumb
Cousin: Yeah, and then it's like....
Krysco Pew: Why make it vague when it was upfront in the other game?
Cousin: this whole choosing sides thing
Cousin: like they don't explain anything about the mission differences and the economy and combat differences.
Cousin: It's kinda stupid that you have to search those things up xD

Krysco Pew: Yeah :/ they expected you to watch the trailers and stuff
Cousin: Hm, well Conquest is, I read up quite a lot and it does seem much more kin to the older fire emblems. Should be alright.
Krysco Pew: I don't recall what family it follows though
Krysco Pew: I think Nohr
Krysco Pew: Hoshido is Birthright I think
Cousin: Yeah Nohr is Conquest. They are the supposed bad guys, though apparently it's not really as black and white as the game has you believe, so I will give it a go.
Krysco Pew: Coo
Like I said, it's really long and it might be painful to read since it's going from Skype to Smashboards. I kept what I said in purple while making what he said white so that should help a bit. I'll note what I deem the important bits in another spoiler below.
- SE version has you do some chapters and get some story before you ultimately choose what story to follow whereas Corrin picks on his own in Birthright or Conquest
- Story is apparently really good. Very different from other FE games.
- One problem is that one side has your stereotypical 'mad king' making the initial choice between good and evil somewhat obvious
- Combat is alright, very similar to Awakening but the new behaviour of fighting next to your allies and the enemies being able to do the same is neat
- Corrin's dragon limb stuff is 'Hulk-esque' until he gets a dragon stone to control it.
- Some flaws with the game are that it doesn't tell you the differences between the sides, like how one gets infinite money and they get different chapter objectives. Gotta research that. Another flaw being that at the beginning, the game makes you choose a flaw and a boon for Corrin, much like Awakening Robin which itself isn't a flaw but they don't use words like 'Magic' or 'Speed' even though they did in Awakening.
- In the end, he chose to follow the Conquest/Nohr side first so I'll get to hear about that from him first
Still a bit of a long read but far shorter than the copy and paste Skype conversation. Also still a bit spoilery for anyone who hasn't touched Fates yet. From what you guys have been saying about it and from what my cousin has said, Fates is sounding like an alright game which is good to hear!

Most amazing thing ever! Courtesy of @Zachmac

"...And while I may not be able to use Aether for vertical recovery, I may still be able to use it as a horizontal recovery move!"
"Oh come on, as if that will be enough to make you unique."
"Viridi, what are you arguing with that human about?"
"Oh, hey there Pittoo. I'm just trying to stick it into this guy's thick skull that he'd just be a worthless Ike clone."
"A what now?"
"A worthless clone. You know, no point for existing as a separate character, existing only to waste roster space, ect, ect."
"..."
"...Uh, Viridi?"
"What is it?"
"You do realize who you were just talking to, right?"
"....Oh."
"It's fine. I have a way to fix that problem."
"Using a unique set of weapons to set yourself apart?"
"No, I'm just going to beat the guy who copied my moveset so badly that he gets knocked out of the roster for good!"
"What? But you copied me!"
"If that's the case, then why am I so much better at it? I'm clearly the original one."
"But you aren't better than me at all!"
"Why don't we all just be grateful that you made it into the roster?"
"Yeah, I suppose that'd cause the least amount of conflict."
"So you're fine with clones now? Does that mean you think I have a chance at making it onto the roster?"
"No."

I played through the first 6 Chapters of Fates yesterday and I think that it's pretty good so far!
While the story and dialogue are pretty good so far, my main issue is that they really make Nohr the bad guys, thus creating a black and white morality in Hoshido's path. I guess that was the point to make Conquest have a deeper story, but I'm siding with Hoshido on my first playthrough.

If you bought either of the paths as dlc you get Dread Fighter. If you buy one and then buy Revealtions you get an Ebon Wing.
What if you got the Special Edition? How does one become a Dread Fighter and get an Ebon Wing?

Just defeated Conquest on Normal Classic. The game was tons of fun. Xander is close to the next Sigurd imo, he's literally my MVP in every chapter since his recruitment.

As for Odin, he's pretty decent in my experience but I dropped him as soon as I was able to get Ophelia since her stats were so much better.

Edit: I guess I should talk about the other Awakening kids as well. Selena was pretty good for the most part but she gave me some pretty disappointing level ups though, thankfully her stats and skills were decent enough for endgame. Paired her up with Kaze because their supports was really cute and Midori with red hair looks really cute. I did not use Laslow after his debut chapter.

From what I've read, Odin has arguably the best growth rates in Conquest, so it might just take some patience. I certainly did not have that patience, but it might be something I'll try on a subsequent playthrough with DLC.

Camilla had a 96% chance of hitting Hinoka and she missed!

HOW?!
On time in Awakening on the mission where you have to stop Validar and his assassins from killing Emmeryn (Chapter 6 I think), my friend playing on Hard/Classic got down to Validar, who had a 5% chance to crit Chrom and he did. And then he got down there again, after much rage, and the same thing happened a second time.

RNG is so dumb.

Pff, you should have seen how many times Ike missed a Mage he had a 1% chance of hitting twice.

No sympathy indeed.

Fire emblem rng is screwy at times. Sometimes it likes to give units like Amelia speed growths as a general that shouldn't happen, and sometimes it gets your best unit killed thanks to a 1% crit.

Probably just because the mods have been busy or haven't noticed.
We should change it to "unknown number of months until Fates", since the most important parts of the world don't have a release date yet :p
Don't you have the power to do so, being a Red Tyrant? :demon:

Nevermind.

IT'S HAPPENING!!!

Can someone explain how the amiibo battles work? I have a Robin amiibo and I did talk to him to get an item, but how do I fight him? (I dunno if I'll do that now since amiibos are powerful I believe)

Ugh, that sucks.

One time, I was playing Chapter 8 in Awakening (the one with Nowi and Gregor) and I was at the end. There was one dude with a Killing Edge who was going to hit me, but his crit rate was low. Do you know what happens? He gets a crit on Robin, forcing me to restart the Chapter. I was so disappointed when that happened.

Well check the crystal ball in my castle. They'll likely be there for you. Along with some other goodies.
I found it!
I don't think I will be using them. Since I can use them 4 times... I rather conserve them.

Jesus christ chapter 13 was hard. I only ended with Niles, Charlotte and Elise!!
Oh lawd that one. I had to restart about 8 times because I kept getting surrounded and couldn't get across the bridges. I had to get lucky and fly Camilla over to Takumi and take him out with a Killer Axe before I could slowly bait the weak units over to me.

And I couldn't figure out what to do against Reina (the Kinshi Knight) at first. Jeez. Eventially I found a way to sneak Niles over there. Without Azura's singing I'd have had a much harder time in Comquest. Be sure to grind up her levels when you get a breather!

Takumi took out 5 units himself, and the units he didn't had a hell of a time against the armoured units. Thank god im playing on casual lol
