It's okay. Mario Maker is the main event for today. We can always mess around in the Pirate Ship on Friday or next Wednesday.
In my defense, there was a blackout at my house until like close to 8 so I had to quickly update, buy and install. I'll definitely have pirate ship before Friday though, I'm just kicking myself because I really liked that stage because wind waker.

Oh well...

Splatoon and soon to be Super Mario Maker will probably be my only 2015 games. (Star Fox would've been one, but yeah) maybe Ori and the Blind Forest. (so late)

Sucks man. :( I made sure to record some of my good ones before updating. Do you have it set so your Wii U in standby? You should disable that.

The SMM stage been fun!

Nice to know that :4samus: finally got some buffs!

Important Robin buffs right here.
This isn't the only buff. Don't have evidence, but looking into buffs on D-tilt and Arcthunder.

Also lost a frame of invincibility on backstep and airdodge. Of course, that's not going to be an issue when you consider how easily he'll brake shields now.

D-tilt didn't get changed (patch thread found nothing from the data dump) and Arcthunder/fire benefit from the universal shieldstun change, but other than that I think nothing much was changed.

I consider it a buff at least. Looking forward to taunting my opponents and then full charging a smash on them after a shield brake. Heheh. The time has come. The time to show our power.

Hey tacticians, I've been busier so I haven't had as much time to browse forums site, how has everyone been? How major is the newest patch?

With Robin, it's mixed bag, due to a shieldstun increase. One one hand, Arcthunder (and Arcfire, to a lesser extent) is better on shield now, but our OoS options are supposedly even worse.

So...is Robin better or worse this patch? Me confused.

I certainly hope they're better since Marth got nerfed. What is even the point of nerfing a character that's already considered low tier? Thanks a lot Nintendo.

Meanwhile Mewtwo got...

Yeah. If the balance team could actually buff the characters that need it that'd be great.

Marth got nerfed
Not so much a nerf, as just keeping him in line with the shield stun changes. If he still had Shield Breaker as strong as it used to be, you'd practically be able to break shields in one hit without any charge on the move. Either way it's not really such a huge deal, in my opinion.

Marth did not get nerfed in the long run. Shield stun changes are going to wildly change the whole game. Shields being weaker most likely meant both Marcina and DK were breaking shields too easily, necessitating a decrease in shield damage.

As for Robin, we will see. My gut reaction is that this will probably help her based on some theories I have on applying the actual mechanics changes, but it will take a good deal of playing on the new patch for me to decide, which I won't be doing until after TBH5, which is running 1.1.0

Thanks for clearing that up you two. In the other threads everyone was like, "omg Marth got nerfed time to drop this crappy character" so I just went along with it. So it's good to know it's nothing significantly bad for Marth.

i have no idea why he's wielding an axe since in none of marth's games Knights/Generals could use axes

Lol at the victory pose buff :p

So, in summary, :4robinm: was untouched in this patch beyond the universal shield-stun and get up attack changes, correct? Fine by me :)

I feel bad for :4luigi:, though I suppose the nerf was overdue, and he got some other buffs besides.
The dev team didn't fully address :4samus: mains issues this patch, but hey, one step at a time.

So I've been hearing some people say that shield breaks are more frequent now with the increased shield stun. So I'm sorry if this is a dumb question but does this mean that there is always a direct correlation between shield stun and shield damage? Or is this happening just because it's easier to apply more pressure on shields now?

Well shieldstun is similair to hitstun in that if your opponent hits your shield you can't do anything and are stuck in your shield for a while. In the time you hold shield, it automatically decreases. So if you increase shieldstun, you also have to hold your shield longer which means shields decrease even more.

Shield damage is caused by opponents attack that hit the shield. They are not directly the same thing but it does add up to the pressure of shields.

I personally don't like it because these characters :4zss::4sheik::4fox:(characters who could pressure shields really well and are aleady safe) become even more dumb.

With the nerfs to shield break specific moves, the rate shouldn't be significantly increased, but basically shield breaks should be slightly more common because for each hit, our opponent has to stay in shield longer, thus depleting it more. It isn't directly caused by the shield stun increase, just a result.

Ah, this makes a lot of sense. Thank you both for the explanation.
