I have just come back from a college event that turned into a night out. I and a few girls were chatting about male/female relations, and to cut a long story short, they all said that they are usually only attracted to bad boy, alpha male types, and that they will enter into relationships with more beta, nice type of guys in order to have someone subservient that they can walk all over and cheat on with what they termed arrogant, confident guys.

I told them I was gay (even though I'm not) and they pretty much bought it, so perhaps that's why they felt that they could admit it. What really struck me what that they didn't seem to be slutty or nasty: they came across as your typical nice, girl next door types. This made what they said a lot more surprising to me.

What do you guys think? Girls comment as well.

1. Now that they think you are gay, they will want you, badly. women love what they can't have.
2. Its a stage. A study showed stages of mental maturity being directly releated to the type of guys they like, as in Tough and Bad or Kind of Family-ish. They will deep through these stages until they are completely mentally mature, in which they will go after the Family-ish type. Or something along these lines, my father majored in psychology, he knows this better than I do.
3. Some women will be mentally mature, and also remember that 'bad boy' is only relevant. Think about the episode of Futurama where the up tight woman liked him because he was so dirty. She thought he was bad because he was in juxtaposition to everything she had known. Its the same in real life.

I did notice however that my ex-girlfriend was attracted to me because of my personality, then broke up with me cause it just clicked in her head that I wasn't her type. Then she dated a couple of "bad boys". Didn't offer her what I did, which was real, very real. A couple of months later she wants me back, I said no.

And she knew me by my personality because of how much time we spend together during the summer as friends, which a lot of bad boys don't seem to show.

This is exactly how some of the chicks at school are like.

When I first meet a girl in high school, she thinks I'm cute and probably wants to go out with me. But once they realize I'm the quiet type and I actually do my work in school, the girl leaves me alone and doesn't even look at me anymore. That's a big shame because girls always go straight to the low class gangsters and dudes that play EVERY sport the school offers. There are still a lot of girls that would admire me the way I am, but I hate it how other chicks' minds work.

I'm am 14, and have a crush on at least 10 girls in school. Only 5 of them even care...

I'm hoping to at least be friends with this one chick, she's the type that has bad taste in guys. I'm not saying that I am the perfect man, but I'm more reasonable and an all-around with everything.

When I was in high school I pretty much remained "the friend" ... constantly got told "oh but you're not a -real- guy" haha even though my plumbing told me different. It's to do with the perception of what we want, coupled with the innate human desire to breed with the strongest gene pool there is. Alpha's make good baby daddies. Betas make good successful marriages. This lesson is tough to learn tho, and is why America's divorce rate is actually OVER 50%, I mean, how sad is that?? But what can you do? Well, I just waited until I found the right woman. It takes forever usually, but eventually you meet someone who fits your needs, and you fit theirs, and then you can make babies. In the meantime, if you wanna get laid, just pretend like you're an alpha male. You'll fool about 30% of the chicks you encounter.

Oh yeah, and all this is moot once you get to college and no one gives a **** because there's so much more important stuff to worry about. But when your high school age, it's all about being surrounded by chicks and WOW she's hot and WOW she's hot too, why won't they talk to me!!! I'm hip! I'm cool! duckaduckaduckaducka ... meh.

In response to the thread, don't judge a book by its cover. Not all girls are like this. Don't lose hope. For example your not slutty or nasty or whatever. Or at least thats what I'm sure of. Not that I'm saying your nasty or anything....*ahem* anyway, there are some girls out there who are nice and not nasty.

Actually, if you're nineteen, you're still young, and they're young too. You still have a lot to learn about relationships, and so do they.

Another thing to remember: Whenever you ask someone a broad question like "What kind of a girl/guy you like?" a lot of people answer based on some exaggerated ideal, especially if they're young and inexperienced. They don't have very many meaningful, serious relationships to work off of, so they just go for some fantasy they envision in their minds. Guys do this just as much as girls.

I once asked a group of (straight) girls about what type of a guy they'd be into, and all but one wanted a more dominant guy. But when it came to the actual relationships that they found themselves in a few years later, it wasn't like that at all, as far as I could tell. Real people and real relationships aren't as cut and dry as fantasy romance. But if you ask them what they want, people will usually give you the fantasy answer. That doesn't mean it'll happen.

Here's the destiny of all the bad girls at your usual high school/college:

Gets an offer from a good guy.
She approves
They soon break up and girl goes for the bad boy.
They break up when entering the real world and neither has ANY connection.
Girl goes for good boy again.
Rejected.

Gimme proof this happens equally with boy after good girl, then bad girl. Unless you would refer to boy after hot chick, then hotter chick. :/

Ophy I can guarantee you that you're wrong about this. Gender isn't everything. There are so other factors like age/maturity or social background. I have a lot of female friends and none of them would agree with the way you think or with the girls you described.

Okay, I only glossed through the responses to see if anyone else posted anything other than "keep your chin up, nice guys win in the end" nonsense before I chimed in but...I didn't see anything so I'm gonna go ahead and slap a small psychology lesson on you.

Attraction between men and women is not something that you consciously choose.

Think about when you first see a girl. What do you do? You check her out, right? And where do you look? Face first, generally, and then her chest and her hips/butt? Guess what, everything you just looked at is hard-wired in to you from birth as the things to look at in order to determine a healthy, fertile mate. (YES THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS TO EVERYTHING, PLEASE DON'T BOTHER WITH POKING HOLES, THIS IS A VERY GENERALIZED POST)

Now when a woman first sees a man, they check him out too. And guess what, just as fast as you decided whether or not you find her attractive, she's done the same thing to you. And once she's made that unconscious decision that you aren't attractive, it's almost impossible to change her mind.

Women will always, always, ALWAYS be attracted to "Alpha Male" types. Why? BECAUSE THAT IS HOW NATURE HAS WIRED US. Now, the problem us "nice guys" have, is that we consider "alpha male" to carry a negative connotation. There is no reason that you cannot be a "nice guy", and an "alpha male".

I said "naturally". As in, that's how they're wired. I also said my post was generalized. There are always exceptions.

I really don't think that's the part of my post that you should be focusing on.
