This game can get pretty frustrating

I wouldn't go on EGX period. It "just sucks".

EGX is the most frustrating thing in Smash. As someone once put it, it "kills the soul".

seems a lot of people bash EGX ... D:
Most of times that i've played there, i've met pretty good players (I usually ask them about their level of course) I've nothing to complain about EGX besides the desynchs and the obvious higher level of delay.
There's another thing called team battle, which can only be done on the server and not on p2p... and its hella funny

Play 2 have fun and also try to win, no johnz
Fixed =P
If everybody played to win, players like MATTS! would be everywhere >__>

wow, whats more frustrating is when a friend of yours insists they know everything about SSB simply because "they play it". For an example, we'll say his name is fred.

I was uair comboing with falcon because im a ***** =]

Fred "i cant get out of your combos"
me "dude this is smash 64..."
fred "so? you can still get out of combos"
me "only way is if you get a chance to tech the ground, and true combos dont really let you do that"
Fred "theres other ways out of combos"
me "only if i **** up the combos"
Fred "does that not mean I can get out of combos?"

FML.

dumb friends.

So was I.

If EVERYONE played to win we wouldn't have any of this scrub BS.

Play to win means doing everything in your power to win and tolerating everything your opponent does to win. If more people played to win we wouldn't have any of these grab spam complaint BS or "X is broken".

Game becomes much more enjoyable...if it's a good game. I find 64 more enjoyable when one plays to win. Playing to win does not mean pick Pikachu...unless you're good with Pikachu. But playing to win means TOLERATING and not *****ing when someone picks Pikachu.

If playing to win was not fun then no one would do it.

Oh well... for me playing to win is for example pick falcon and always do uair combos... Or pick Pikachu and Kirby and spam the broken moves. Secure wins...
I play to have fun (but still trying to win), so what i do is pick almost every char even if i have to lose some matches with my worse chars.

There's no point playing to win with a low level strategy like spamming moves. Anybody who plays falcon will use upair, and grab, a lot. They're his best moves. Using ONLY those moves or something is obvious, obvious is predictible, predictible is bad and gets you dead.

I mean I guess it can be fun online since with the delay and everything utilt camping and everything is a lot more effective but I just plain will play vs someone else if I don't find it fun.

Yes, I do play MATTS! because I don't johnz with him and he don't johnz with me. He never made a video of him OWNING me with a matts combo :(

Point being, this game is for fun and you let anything get in the way of that and you're not open to learning new stuff then you can't really be good at smash and you will find the game VERY frustrating.

This applies to just about every competitive video-game.

Also a good anti-john thing to tell yourself when you get killed in an annoying way for example utilt to bair to dair ownage vs a good kirby. Just tell yourself the point of the game is to knock the other person off the screen in anyway possible, it doesn't matter how just do it and don't bi**ch.

Yeah I get everything what you say.
Im saying that In my case I love to do combos and I find it twice as funny when I win doing cool combos and other cool stuff than doing boring easy kills. But also i find it funnier when Its not always the same sh¡t.
Like for example i can play 5 matches in a row with falcon, and doing like 3 or 4 zero to deaths with the uair combos (this is not about being predictable... you only have to find a way to grab him and he is dead) and I can't do this for more time... Then I need to pick someone else and do other stuff and other combos, other wise the game is repetitive and boring

Generally why you switch chars then try to play to win with that char.

Personally, Falcon's usmash >>>>> grab. If I use Falcon, I start forbidden combos with 2xusmash.

I agree with the play to win thing, but to me playing to win is the funnest way to play. However I only play link so there's no real cheap combos to capitalize on there. Unless you consider spam a cheap combo. Then again spam isn't really spam if you're being strategic. I enjoy playing MATTS! too because he helps me learn my weaknesses and how to get around that kind of stuff. I mean it is frustrating that such simple moves can 0-death me when I just make one mistake; but I think you would have to be a zen master not to get frustrated. Smash is great :)

And I absolutely love EGX because it's the only way I would ever possibly be anywhere close to as good as I am today. Sure there's lag and delay, but I personally dont have any friends that play competitive smash (especially 64) and I am super grateful that there is a way I can connect to a community and play some competitive smashers almost instantly. Pretty much the same reason I play Brawl more than I do melee. Anyway, carry on.

Frustrating moments:

*5 minutes into match*
Friend: "Hey, why aren't there any items?"

*friend chooses Sector Z*
Me: "Jesus, this is such a bull**** stage."
Friend: "No it's not."

Friend (who I have been trying to train):
*Link d-air*
*No z-cancel*
Me: "Seriously? learn."
