What happened to the Smash 64 community?

There's still some friendly people that help a lot here with whatevers going on or whoever has questions - to naame a few; Nixxon, Blue Yoshi, Dmoogle, and Daedatheus, but besides the small amount of them, everyone else just seems to be immature trash talkers or just plain ignorant people...

A good example? I just started a thread asking a genuine question and 75% of the thread is full of people posting stupid questions in regard to my avatar and the others just posting very short useless posts that are just spam andd dont contribute to the thread.

I always come in here and see some posts full of curse words against people simply because they're immature idiots or just disagree with the victim's post.

SSBPete is a friendly guy. Usually on here posting his decentcombos and asking for help on some stuff. Have a look at the comments on this video of his: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PwFEwqS0SIw

It's full of people saying; "you copied my friends combo", "that's my combo", "lol ur combos are crap" with a variety of cursed words lol . There's a few people on there sticking up for him, namely me and 1-2 others, but it didn't change the douchebag's opinions and they just carried on.

There was even a "stupid people on kalliera" threaad not long ago. I guess that's the people my entire post is referring to on here. It's giving this community a bad name you know

EDIT: I expect to get flamed with immature, bad (in terms of grammar and them being nasty) posts. It doesn't matter. It'll just prove my point and you'll know if my post is referring to you or not. I hope some people take this seriously and give their honest opinions.

I think you're overreacting

1: If you see a lot of trashtalking, 95% of the time it's either people who are actually friends with each other and are kind of trash talking in a joking way, or trolls that attempt to start flame wars themselves (these are very rare, the only who really does that right now is Novakane, one person can cause a big difference though)

2: If you're talking about the "Which Character and Why" thread, I'm not exaggerating when I say there's been hundreds of the same topic. Why would people bother answering seriously when they probably have answered numerous times already?

3: In Pete's video, it was only really a couple of people talking to him about it being Alancitu's combo, it wasn't "full of people" flaming him. Only one guy was really flaming him. I saw the others defending him, or simply informing him the combo has been done, for it really was done before; you can't blame them for telling him so (I'm sure was an honest mistake on Pete's part, so it's all good). I'm also not seeing these "variety of cursed words".

4: I can't seem to find this "stupid people on kaillera" thread, but if it does exist, from the sounds of it, it was likely created by Gav or some really ignorant user. It was probably locked immediately, and most of the community would not make a thread like that, so please don't judge based on that.

TL;DR You seem to think that this community is a terrible one full of immature people, but this is simply a combination of you misunderstanding the community and letting the few trolls here ruin the experience for you.

*sigh* Where to begin. First of all, you have a point. "This community" has its problems. I am "givinng you my honest opinion" here, I hope this post isn't "bad in terms of grammar and in terms of being nasty" (a less mature replier would point out here that that sentence is clumsy at best, and then point out that grammar snobbery works better when grammatical correctness is observed by the snob) and I really don't mean to flame you.

Secondly, you. You have a pink anthropomorphic hedgehog (or whatever) from the "Sonic the Hedgehog" series of video games as your avatar, and a signature saying "Life sucks..." which you have defended as being a serious sentiment and not to be laughed at. You use emoticons with a frequency that is borderline appalling. These factors may or may not have anything to do with what you're saying, but they do affect how people view you, and frankly, you come off as an eight-year old. Don't be surprised, therefore, if people make jibes at you about said avatar/signature; it may not have anything to do with the thread, but this is a forum. Rules of etiquette are, to say the least, somewhat relaxed here, and people aren't obliged to make every post strictly and completely relevant and interesting. That isn't necessarily a bad thing. As to your threads, we've all seen several "Main" threads before, and it's somewhat of a faux pas to create threads like that (other examples might include "PJ64k won't work on Vista" threads and "Who's the best character" threads.) Keeping this in mind, it's unsurprising that people treated you somewhat abrasively. Creating a new thread lamenting the death of the entire community because it has stupid people in it is, as ShootingStar says, an overreaction. Furthermore, the main thread did have a lot of relevant posts, as did the PAL NSTC thread. Get yourself together, don't make (forgive me) stupid threads, ignore the trolls, inure yourself to obscene language, and try to take what people say to you with a grain of salt; hopefully, the community will then become for you the fun, useful forum for ideas that it is for me, and you can have a good time smashing and talking about smash.

And maybe then life won't suck so much.

I know this is unrelated to the thread, but I used to think life sucks, and still kind of do. However, since I don't believe in life after death, I figured that you'd BETTER learn to enjoy it while you can, because it's all you'll ever have. Just my 2 cents.

Because similar to other gaming communities and differing from Melee and Brawl, you can be on opposite sides of the world and what you say and/or do doesn't matter since it's the internet.

Probably partially why the Smash (Melee/Brawl) community is the way it is.

I agree. There's SO MUCH bickering among people here despite there not being many of us, and there are so many people online with huge egos. I think it's mainly due to the close-to-nonexistent real-life scene though. With Melee and Brawl people meet at tournaments and become actual friends, so the camaraderie carries over to the boards. This is not the case at all with 64.

Sorry Holty, this is all my fault. I am an awful poster, and my bad habits kinda spreaded all over the over over the board and across the internet. I kinda regret when I invented the "lol" expression back in the 60s. It actually meant Like Old Lemonade, and we all know how bad old lemonade is. Thanks to that you have rofl, roflcopters, nchan, lolcats, loldicks, etc.. You can see the dangerous effects this had had all across the world.
Thanks to me the internet is an anonymic wasteland. I was supposed to program a non anonymous protocol to the internet, but I was so busy optimizing it for porn, I missed the deadline. I still have it typed up in a diskett that is buried around somewhere in Yucatan, but today people can't live without anonymity. Thanks to me a lot of people have gotten addicted, missed homeworks, left their spouses...
I also made the first flame. Back when I was testing arpanet, I soon realized all the trouble this would cause, as soon as I saw my colleagues spitting things like "hfasjdhfka Ir internet". I soon typed out "Come one, don't be dumb." Everyone stopped talking to each other. They where so hurt and confused. Who of us could have been so cruel? Of course me, but when I finally decided to confess, the team disbanded, and the internet remained like the impersonal hell it is now. I am the snake in the garden of E-den. Its all my fault. The internet is ruined. Good bye.

I met at least 8-9 people IRL that I've played online before. Just travel around and go to melee tournaments^^. Hm in fact, I'm gonna make a thread about this.

The main problem is similar to what Nintendude said, its an online community. Its like how the brawl online community is less together than the brawl offline or melee offline communities. The other main problem is that the community is basically split up into 4 types of people. Trolls are part of all of these categories.

1. Veterans/console only people: The guys who have been competitive before you ever heard of z-cancelling, they tend to post posts that are either one of two things: complete inside jokes, or good posts that are jokes also
2.console or GTFO people: The people who insult others who want to get into the game by playing online or think that offline is the only way to go.
2. The in betweeners: The people who have been playing for a while, but not an overly long amount of time, usually the people who organize online tournaments or help the new guys, unless they are trolling, usually get trolled by console only people or the veterans for not remembering some random guy no one cares about anymore.
1. The new guys, the new people to smash 64, who get put off by the amount of trolling or learn to troll themselves.
