Thinking of getting into brawl

I been very interested in brawl since it came out but always been broke. With some extra money after christmas been thinking of getting either new monitor/ps3/wii+brawl. The only reason to get a wii is for brawl and it's cheap.

I read some bad things about the wifi. It seemed that it's implied that there is there some monstrous amount of lag playing someone nextdoor over the internet? Bad network code or something?

If internet is out of question and only playable at lan. Would be pointless to get a wii and game I suppose. Cost would be time and gas money though.

I would really really prefer to able to just hop online and get good games against a lot of different people. Would I even be able to find a lot of high lvl players within 20 minutes(living in south jersey)? Not much of a point if i can only find a handful of bad players covering 1/5 of the cast.

The lag really isn't as bad as people make it sound to be.

But if you can't play on-line and there aren't any good players living near you, yeah it would be sort of pointless to get the game. Practicing with CPUs only gets you so far, and sooner or later (if you want to play competitively) you're going to need to practice with human players.

I suggest getting it anyway (shameless advertising for obvious reasons ) and use the boards to get the friend codes of players you deem worthy of your time.

The lag can vary from being not so bad, to horrendous, it all depends on the connection of the person your playing. I play better against a friend in southern California (600 miles away) than I do against a friend in my town. But before you decide to play brawl, dont cause melee and 64 are just plain better.

Another note about the wifi, there are a lot of of sites such as Allisbrawl and smashbrawlrankings.com where you can jump onto the chats get into some battles quickly.

That's your opinion. Imo brawl is the better game.

Get into brawl if you wish. It is a fun game, admitidly not as fast as Melee, but still amazing. Wifi I admit is the devil's burden. It is absolutly diabolical, even with speedy connections, the input lag is ALWAYS noticeable.

Despite the lag, though, I think Brawl is definitely worth getting (again with the shameless advertising but w/e ). The pros (especially if you can somehow battle people on-line with a tolerably lag-less connection) clearly outweigh the cons (e.g. missing out on such a great game).

I would strongly reccomend that you try out at least melee to until you make a descision on which game to get into , also, I think playing both games is quite fun, you just play one for fun, and one for competition AND fun.

horrible idea. Brawl and Melee physics are too different. I recommend finding someone who has Brawl, just sort of test drive it, then decide if you'd want it.

Its really not so bad, you just have to stay practiced, frankly their almost like two different games.

Exactly, which is why when someone wants to get into one, I don't see how telling them to try another would help.

If you can, try and play it at a friends or at a store or something, see what you think.

Stop telling him to play Melee >_>. Play what you want. I play melee because I think it's fun. I don't play brawl because I think it's boring.

Online is not that bad at all. There are a ton of good players out there, and a lot of sites (like this one: http://fsmash.org/ ) that make it really easy to find good people to play.

You should def get Brawl, its a great game, online is always a bit laggy, sometimes impossible to play, but in the end, its a great game :D

Get Brawl. It's worth your time, and you will constantly come back to play it more. That, my friend, is why players pick mains and host tourneys.

Yeah it's a good game but is it worth $250 or time and gas of traveling to do offline.

Unless I can consistently play against very good players of many characters not worth bothering with it. If online lag is so low that it's just mostly a difference of fraction in timing that would be good but if you don't even know whats going on in game and cant do anything precise it would be pointless. For me philly is a bit too much of a drive to do constant friendlies and I don't think there's much people that are closer.

Also the balance is screwy mk is broken -_- even besides that there seems to be too many lopsided matchups in higher tiers.
