Don't spoil yourself, if you haven't played the game yet don't read this thread, as there might be a few spoilers here and there.

Grab your batons and get hyped.

Released '02/'03, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is the tenth installment into the Zelda franchise making it's appearance on the Nintendo Gamecube.

The game followed almost exactly like OOT/ALttP, just starting out a bit differently. The biggest mechanic introduced into the game was sailing. In previous Zelda games, Link would usually travel by foot or horse (OOT/MM), where in WW you must sail from island to island to island to find the necessary power to defeat Ganondorf.

It introduced a few new items too, such as the Deku Leaf which would allow you to float, and the Grappling Hook which would let you swing from one platform to another.

In this thread, feel free to discuss the items, the characters, or pretty much anything about the game.
If you think I should add anything to the OP feel free to post about that too.. :p

Dangit you beat me to the punch. >_>

Great game, but I wish it had faster sea travel.
Actually, little secret to double your speed travel.

Just repeatedly put up the Sail and take it down with the button the sails set on and A I believe. You'll know you're doing it right 'cause you have that little boost you get in the 1st second when the sail is out. It brought me up to about 2x speed.

Really, it doesn't bother me much though -- usually whenever I'm sailing I go to grab a drink of water or something then come back and ta-da, I'm at my destination!

My favorite thing about this game is probably the huge amount of side quests all packed into that one little Windfall Island.
Yah, truth. Windfall Island had my most favorite sidequest on top of that. The Hide and Seek one was pretty fun.. but the Wind Mill one topped them all. It was fun trying to figure that one out, not sure why..
The boat mini-game was pretty fun too. I'm pretty sure they had a life-sized game similar to the miniature one too.. somewhere on another island I think. (I haven't actually been there a while.. but now that it's bothering me I'll probably go to it right now >.<)

That's the way I am, lol. I also liked collecting the butterfly pendants and getting the deed to Link's very own bachelor pad!

Man, I really liked this game, except for one thing, those f****ng Miniblins are annoying as hell!!!

I mean, they're easy to beat, just so many pop up at once, and they make too much noise, really annoys me!!

The temples, sidequests, music, Ganon were all awesome in this game. This is one of my favorite Zelda (although I can say that for others) and Gamecube game.

It was a nice touch really. One thing I hated most about that house was the picture puzzle inside. I seriously have yet to figure it out. >.< It makes me go insane, but I was relieved to know it wasn't necessary to beat the game, so I skipped it for another time.

I avoid them as much as I can -- spin attacking and running through them as much as possible. They weren't as annoying as those stupid mouse at the beginning though. It was hard to predict where one would pop up since they came out of ceilings and stuff. Made the stealth mission hard.

Those little guys even set up traps behind Tingles cell. those mice are the worst.

How do you get stuck there? :p just make sure you have the Incredible chart tingle sent to you and thats the easiest part of the game.

Don't go to Tingle!!! He's a rip-off! I used some guides on the internet to get through this when I was replaying this last year cause I didn't feel like paying that greedy old man.

If I'm not mistaken, you have to have him decipher the charts anyways, right? 'Cause the triforce pieces won't show up on the sea as shining spots. Same goes for treasure charts (though you can just open them right away...)

The incredible chart makes it VERY easy though, and money shouldn't be an issue with this game anyways, lol. It's so easy to make it in this game -- especially with that fish mini-game where you have to shoot him with arrows. A little FPS experience and you're richer than everyone. :p

But you could just use an internet guide if you wanted to though. All you need to know is which islands each triforce peace is near.

The problem is I never received that so called incredible tingle chart :/. I already saved and talked to Tingle on his island but nothing happens. I enjoyed the rest of WW tho, its epic. But the sea travelling (until u get the teleport song) and this part are just annoying X_X.

He gives it to you by mail. If it doesn't show up, you already have it.

I think he charges you to pick up his chart, though.

Sailing was a lot of fun in here. Yeah, sometimes I didn't really feel like it, but that was pretty rare. Sailing had one of the best songs in the game playing, there was semi-constant activity, and plenty of islands to keep your interest.

This is a truly great game.

Except for the long, dragging minutes at the beginning of the game where you were forced to sail across almost the whole length of the map (or so it seemed).

That took forever. You would have time to go out, eat lunch, shop for groceries, and check your mail before you got back. :bee:

This game was wonderful. The music was mesmerizing. I played it once, beat it. Played the alternate beggining (playthrough in pajamas), beat it. Heard the song of DragonRoost Island and just had to come back and beat it again! 100% this time. Loved this game.

I Had time to grab a snack and use the restroom just fallowing the wind...

The worst part is when you have to sail to your home island after the eternal night...and getting stuck in the whirlwind right next to your home town and ending up even FARTHER away from it than you started...

I ACtually thought I really WAS racing the pirates to the home town so I was in a hurry too...

That bit of bad luck could only of happened to me though

Actually, the whirlwind comment happened to me too the first time I played WW.

I think I'm the only one who didn't have a beef with the cyclones reading this thread.

I would actually just stand outside the cyclones zone and watch it. The thunderstorm visuals around it looked amazing. Same for the morning thunderstorms.

This game got me really interested in weathery effects.

Heh, I never had that much of an issue with them. I got caught a few times, but it was usually because I was cutting it too close rather than go around the outside or change the winds. And they were pretty darn well-done visually. Really, the whole game looked great. I still remember the first time I saw a bomb explode while watching my friend's brother play. The explosion just looked so good, with all the spiraling trails of smoke and all that.

I always make the Triforce shard gathering part of the game the part where I go to all the islands I haven't seen yet. It makes it more fun, finishes my map, and still gets the shards. Plus, I never minded that part so much, even the first time. The world was just so full of activity and things to find that I didn't think of it as a chore. The game forced me to explore it and see all the corners of the world? Fine by me. Tingle was the only unpleasant part of the process. He's just abhorrent.

Haha, you too?

I actually first did my exploring before the Earth/Wind Temple. I always regretted it since I saw the locations I couldn't explore yet 'cause of the Hookshot / Mirror Shield. (which wasn't that many.. tbh, but still) but I did get the Iron Boots + Power Gauntlets so not all was lost.

It just kind of dissapointed me since I was really into exploring in the game and realizing that I couldn't do it all yet. huh.

The sailing was fun to me though. I loved hearing the music, watching the wind, and looking at the amazing visuals. I would actually play the suns song just so I could get to the morning (where it would be raining) since I loved to see it so much.

I hated sailing in the night, for some odd reason. Sailing in the morning alleviated the creepy part.

The BEST sailing at night, though, is near the Ghost Ship.

This game had the best Ganon incarnation to me, ever. Not only was he a badass to fight, but his presentation and dialog were absolutely stunning to me.

When the king touches the Triforce, and Ganon just stands there in disbelief... and the rain comes down, and he just starts LAUGHING. and what a laugh. chilling and awesome. then he suddenly stops, whips out some swords, and holy **** haha

it's probably my favorite moment in any video game story ever.

I remember one time. I went to go check the mail, took the garbage out and did the dishes and I came back just in time before I made it across the map going back to Outset Island. This was way before I got the Whirlwind song. I can't recall the name at the moment...

I do have to admit. Fighting this Ganon was probably the most epic out of them all. I need to replay this game so bad.... :(

And the Finale... Omg...

Ganon/the art style/presentation of the game was amazing.

Windwaker gave me what I want and enjoy out of Zelda games, a large open world to explore that I can never tire of. Each island was full of personality and secerates. To someone who doesn't like exploring, the game probably seemed tedious and boring.
I've yet to grow bored of that world and its people.
