I didn't lose any marks at all it really.

I got A+ (SAC) A+ (SAC) A+ (Exam) and got 45 lol. I lost 1 SAC mark all year, and ended up with a 45, so I'm guessing I got into the lower end of the A+ spectrum in my written exams. I don't know how VCAT mark these things, they suck ***. The 2003 year I did it, they screwed up everyone's Further Maths calculations.

I would have lost marks in my essay structures, I can pull good words out of my ***, but the written structure is critical. Needs to flow perfectly, which is hard to do in 3 hours

I don't know how you haven't been banned yet considering nearly every time I see you post it's a picture of something completly off topic.

My structuring needs to be slightly improved but yeah I need help pulling big words out of my ***. What's a good way to increase my list of vocabulary? Read a thesaurus?

@ Unreon: Which topic in Maths 4U did you find the hardest?

Yeah, but I would also be weary of trying too hard to demonstrate your vocab diversity. Prioritise structure first, then go the vocab skills after. Remember, VCAA people have to read 50,000 essays; the most powerfully succinct papers will stand out most. Too much wordiness = bad

@Suntan: Tbh I am notorious for being good at making good speeches and whatnot (horrible at structure which is why speaking is good, I can engage with mah words), the key is not to read a thesaurus which you'll never remember. But to read many different novels that you enjoy, but are dense. You remember specific words often and the context of which to use them. Works a charm

Refine the introduction... it will be the part of your essay that is read and analysed the most...

Any tips for Maths study? Like I do all the questions but I don't know if that is the best type of study.
I ask because this terms report was the first ever maths report I didn't get straight A's on, and I'm doing 3/4 methods now, getting worried.

-Doesn't really incite much confidence Cao!
-If you have time, it is good to do a lot of questions I find, just for two reasons
-It builds up your confidence and allows you to move through questions in the final exam a lot faster allowing you more time to double check, then triple check all your answers

-I guess that A really depends on your school, for me I recall getting decently high marks in sacs, but not at an A+ level compared to others in my school, but then since my school is good at maths I ended up scoring really well for my sacs
-But yeah, if that A is based on opinions of your teacher etc, it doesn't matter that much at all, since only your marks on SACs and your final exam will count
-So yeah, doing questions are good to build speed and consistancy which is what you need in methods, because if you screw up eve a couple of things, you can say goodbye to high 40's
-For my methods exam, I don't believe I made any 'true' mistakes, they deduct marks if your working out isn't flawless or if you aren't spot on with how you have answered things, which is why you really need to make sure that you are mistake-free when it comes to methods (I semi-fudged my process of one of the probability questions, even though the answer was right)

-But yeah, on the upside, pre methods and specialist in units 1/2 I remember getting a high A for methods, and a D+ for specialist...so yeah it still turned out good with scaled scores of 47 from both of them, just make sure you perform on the exam
-Just don't get careless, and don't give them any reason to take even half a mark away, because if they can they will

Well I used to get money from all those maths comps and whatnot, and was invited to the Australian maths olympiad once.
The problem is, I do questions and practice Sacs, but when they change what they ask in a similar question I tend to struggle.

-Then I guess being more familiar with the different wording which they use would help, or try to find out specifically why you are mixing things up, because it'd be a shame for you not to score fantastically if you have a past history of doing well

-The only other thing to keep in mind, is that methods is so easy that it doesn't really matter how great you are at maths competitions, uni maths or whatever, because in the end normal people(like me in maths) still have to ability to score 100%, and that's the problem in methods for you, it isn't the issue of being able to get the stuff correct, it all has to do with reducing error, either in interpretation of the question or with your working out

-My friend represented Australia in the International Mathematical Olympiad and was the only one from Victoria representing, and he has always come top 3 in maths competitions for years, he got 50 for spec(fyi, proudest moment in spec maths for me was beating him just once in my life, just once in a spec sac), 5.5 for uni maths, and not 50 for methods[47, but still everyone around him was dissapointed in him lol], so yeah - basically be careful and work to figure out the underlying problem - Good luck!

Having little-to-no internet access for a week sucks.

@Nix: Post up questions which you're having difficulty and maybe you'll gain an alternative perspective from my working out.

What's the lowest score one can get for spesh so it gets scaled up to 54? I was thinking 48 since 45 scales to 52.
Same question goes for methods except scaled up to 50.
