Alright that does it, I've had enough of people using this argument :
"The only reason (insert character here, preferably Sonic) does good in tourney or gets anywhere is because there are millions of people using him!"
NO! Please STFU right now and think about what you're saying, because this is not how results are made or skewed.
Let's see why this is wrong shall we?
For one, let's just we literally had millions of people suddenly picking up X character... how many out of those millions of people are actually good with X character? We're gathering people from random sources BTW this doesn't account for people and their competitive gaming history or anything like that. The answer:
Not many if any of them.
That's right, (for simplicity reasons plus easy/ier to relate to/for people, I'll use Sonic as an example throughout this whole blog) Sonic can just have all those people start using him, it still won't mean he will be probably demonstrated if any if those people have a clue as to how to suck with him (because it's much harder than it looks to pick him up and do good with him). Just because he might start popping up every now and then in the top of placings doesn't mean he actually is good (let me finish), how would thousands of random Sonic guys do when put up with another expert of another character? Let's just say we have M2K using MK... I hope I don't have to tell you what would most likely happen here...
Oh but hold up now now, let's just say all of these random Sonic guys were ACTUALLY GOOD with Sonic, what would happen then?! Well, to put it simple, Sonic as a character still has to do a lot of work. You would still have to consider how Sonic fairs against the rest of the Brawl cast and the skill level of the players controlling him. Technically while most any character can do work, there is only so much that can be done in the game before you eventually hit a road in the block (this I might not be entirely sure of but I'm almost certain it is). So scrubs, start realizing that no matter how good you think a character is, they always will have some weakness people can and will exploit... yes, even MK has a couple of weaknesses (but please don't bring it to this), did you know that MK is light, has one of the worst aerial speeds in the game, and since his attacks don't clash with anything that you can technically space this guy to end? (Okay maybe that last one doesn't apply as much or at all but this is not the point.)
This argument is my favorite counter:
"People don't have experience with this character!"
Wrong, by saying this you're contradicting that thousands of people play this character. You're also saying that if people were playing this character, then people who didn't would know or would eventually figure out how to fight the character. If that's the case why is the character ( Sonic ) still dominating tournaments? You're making this look more silly because this would only apply more if people were actually good with the character, and eventually people would be making the character discouraged from play because this strategy is not working, but look at MK who is shredding the tourney scene.
...So wait, what does all of this/that mean? Well I'm glad you ask, because for characters who are in question, maybe it means/it's telling you that the character is actually... oh, I dunno... SUCCESSFUL?! That's right, I said Sonic is a tourney viable character, why don't you get at me?!?!?
Furthermore, by claiming that X character is high for whatever reason, you're insulting anybody (for Sonic, only the few that actually bother with him) who actually tries to get something done with the character. Characters have their own champions, like Meta Knight has Mewtwo King, Snake has Ally, ETC. So before you start talking, you better have some bite to back up your bark.
Lastly, I've also been seeing a little bit of this:
"If only Y character had that many people playing him or had B persons/people who are good as C guy playing him... sigh."
...So tell me, why don't other characters get anywhere in the tourney scene, or why do I not see said character actually placing high? Could it be because that maybe they can't be put into the competitive drive due to their limitations?
Why do I not see people who might be/are good as say M2K playing with X character and doing well? Well let's put it to an extreme... how about Captain Falcon, everybody knows who he is and knows moreorless where he stands. Why is it that even if all the pros in the world (theoretically) picked up Falcon and even with their note-worthy skill that Captain Falcon still isn't getting further than he was before if anywhere and suddenly all the other scrubs/less-skilled players are getting to the top of the food-chain? Maybe you can figure this one out... if you can't then let me just tell you that sadly even with the Captain's epic manliness and awesome + Knee's and Pawnches and Kyicks, he just isn't a competitive character in a standard environment.
Too Long, Didn't Read - Go read everything above here you lazy bum before you start telling me that Sonic / X character cannot compete, or at least don't go saying it for the wrong reasons.
You're free to point out anything I might've gotten wrong in this blog and me or other people will be more than happy to try and disprove it. If we can't, then perfect, you can sleep easier tonight I guess.
Anybody else is also welcome to add this blog, I'm sure I might've forgotten some stuff/details, but more or less I hoped I've done my job here.
