I'm at 1012 as of right meow. I have work really soon so I can't do anything about it, but when I get off tonight, I'll start tallying the results. Since it's the 1000th mark, I'll tally ALL the results.

Metaknight and Wario were two of the top requested characters after Melee, so we can certainly expect to see a selection of the Top 5 and a retro character.

Well, they're the characters that everyone basically knows are going to be in the game. They're all extremely popular (as the poll reveals), so they'd ensure that as many fans as possible but the game.

Also, I dunno about Palutena being a shoe-in. She's the obvious KI character to add (who else could you add, Magnus? Lol), but Sakurai might see a second KI character as unnecessary. I hope he adds her though, she's my second-most wanted character behind Shulk.

Ghirahim does have a recent character shot, but with a zelda wiiu and link to the past 2 coming up I think he's just as likely as skull kid at the moment.

What this ultimately means is that over the years, the most consistently requested characters are as followed:

This being the case, we can confirm that we have a Golden 8 who have never left the Top 15. This means that they have been around long enough to garner fan support over the years and have kept ahold of their support, never letting them slip into "One-Hit Wonder" status. Everyone else has either only had a fad of support that wore off, is a very recent character, or both.

Do take the data with a grain of salt, as I rounded up any ranking less than 15 as 16, and obviously the "overall support" isn't relevant to the support going on now. It's merely a chronology of the most requested characters. The only purpose I saw with collecting this data is that it may mean something to Sakurai and his team, knowing that the most consistently liked characters will be for more appreciated than the characters that only saw a brief moment in the spotlight. That being said, the Golden 8 certainly have credibility with the Smash Bros. fanbase. To see any of them not make it to SSB4 will indeed be surprise, statistically speaking.

Hopefully that came off as at least remotely interesting to you all. It took me over an hour to manually collect, calculate, and sort this all out.

Ridley is not too big. Characters can be resized to fit Smash (see Bowser), and Ridley's been small enough to work into Smash in multiple canon appearances. (See 8-bit Metroid and Other M)

Ridley is not too big. He can easily work. Check the Ridley thread if you want to see some proof.

All Marth did was ever use a sword yet Sakurai made a unique and interesting moveset. Little Mac has more unique abilities than Marth actually. So Little Mac is a fine choice.
