Most people will tell you to play the games in order of release. Each new game adds a lot of new gameplay elements, and the jumps between really advanced and primitive gameplay can be jarring. I'd say the exception is 4. You can play that whenever the **** you want (as long as it's after 3). The story is a cluster**** and it won't make any more or less sense no matter when you play it. Play Peace Walker with a friend. Definitely play Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain once it's out. Portable Ops can be skipped, but it ain't bad. Play the MSX games on Snake Eater's disk sometime for funsies too. Those are good arcade-y fun.

tl;dr
1 > 2 > 3 > Peace Walker or 4 > Ground Zeroes > Phantom Pain > 4 (If you still haven't yet.)
Anytime after 3: Portable Ops, MG1, MG2, Revengeance

Good to see the support for Snake going strong. The possibility that he may be the number one voted is a dream that I want true.

This is something that I felt like sharing, but I just started playing my first MGS game: Snake Eater. It's funny, as my most wanted veteran, I've never gotten into his series. I just finished the game as I'm writing this, and man...this game was amazing.

The characters, the gameplay, the story, its all great. The ending to it as well was something that tooke me by surprise. This is something I wanted to ask, but would it be better to play in chronological order, or by release of the game? I'm not sure what would be better, so I felt like asking.

With that said, my hope for Snake will always stay Strong.
I feel like release order would work better; otherwise, it's like watching the Star Wars movies in chronological order, where the stories set in the past spoil what were originally plot twists when the games were first released. Plus, the gameplay gradually changes over time, so going from, say, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain to Metal Gear (if you choose to play that one - Metal Gear Solid does a good job summarizing it and Metal Gear 2) would be a huge downgrade.

Hey, this is awesome! I recently got one of my friends into Metal Gear as well, and Snake Eater is a strong jumping on point as what many consider the best in the series. I recommend finishing off the next couple games in Big Boss' sort of story, Portable Ops and Peace Walker (my personal favorite.) Then comes Ground Zeroes, and then we have the Phantom Pain which hasn't been released.

But you could play the original Metal Gear, MG2, and head into Metal Gear Solid. Those are solid games, if a bit archaic. Metal Gear Solid is quite good, even the original PS1 version which is on the PS3 eshop.

I think it's solid (heh) to play through Big Boss' story (Mgs3 to Portable Ops to Peace Walker ect) and then do Solid Snake's games. It's really up to you. That's how I played the games a few years ago, I played through MGS3, Portable Ops and Peace Walker before playing MGS1 and stuff. That actually worked great for me.

Also, glad you enjoyed MGS3. I agree. I think that game is pretty much flawless. Metal Gear games always have great stories, and MGS3 and Peace Walker have the best gameplay of the series in my opinion.

Also, bit off topic, what's your profile picture from? I have a hunch, but I'm not sure. Jojo?

Yeah, it's from Jojo, its Jotaro.

Yeah, its been hard deciding how I'm going to go through this series. I might just end up doing it by release, or just go by chronological order. Eh, I'll figure it out lol.

Friends have been bugging me to watch it. They keep telling me it'll be better than Berserk. Pah!

Don't spend too much time worrying. It's probably best if you just go by release, honestly.

Got more stupid stuff done in MGSV...
and another.
He also uses a LOT of Nintendo sound effects which proves that most MGS fans are also Nintendo fans.

Where the hell have you been bro?
It's been a tough time, sitting and waiting for snake. Have been trying to fight for him on other battlefields. I'll be back a bit more often now though.

So when should the next DLC announcements be hitting anyway? Random Direct or would they do something for TGS?

There's an update coming in August with more stages and probably more Mii oufits. So then maybe.

If we have Snake DLC:

Before the publication of MGSV I think, similar to Ryu with SFV. August could be viable.
Or well in the Ballot

Welp, I'm sold on this game. I was a bit on the fence about this game before, it looked good but if I can go around causing mischief like that, then I want it.

Yeah, I've been playing as her since the 3DS version came out. She was my most hyped character in the game. Plus, it's nice to meet another fellow Rosa user in here.

Have not heard anything on the Smashified stuff or anything lately.

August has had a direct for the past 3 years, so there's a chance we'll see a dlc reveal then. Of course, there's also a chance they keep us waiting once again by not revealing Snake-

Honestly though, Sakurai has played the "keep them waiting" game for a long time.
Doesn't he have anything else to do with his time?

I only main Rosalina because I love her as a character.

And I'm pretty certain Snake is hiding inside his cardboard box somewhere "keeping us waiting, huh."

Me and my friends always thought it would be cool, if he was indeed hiding in the background of one of the levels. Just waiting.

That'd been a great idea if he'd been hidden in the other dlc trailers just barely in view that if they pointed him out, you could tell it was him, but otherwise would have been blissfully and completely unaware of his presence.

Kojima and Sakurai would think of something. It would be great to see how they reveal him.

I really wish they'd do more with the box in stead of just a taunt. Maybe hide under it as a shield similar to Yoshi's egg.

Quick question:
Would you consider this Reddit relevant for Snake?

http://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/c...te_compilation_of_snake_information/?sort=top

Because I agree about Kojima and Sakurai are hiding something.

The most important points of these Reddit:

  • The Kojima Interview: In March of this year Kojima was being interviewed on a livestream about Metal Gear Solid 5, and they were taking questions from the internet. Here's the video, start it at 29:00
When asked if Snake will return in the next Smash Bros. game, he laughs and says "I'm not working that game so I don't know, but I don't think that's likely, but if Mr. Sakurai is watching, then please use Snake." Okay number 1, he is clearly hiding something. There is no way that he doesn't know either way. As it said in the last article I posted, Kojima begged Sakurai to put Snake in. Why would he suddenly not care about it anymore? You don't think he'd at least politely ask? Sakurai would definitely tell him if he was cut or if he was in, not leave him in the dark. So Kojima knows something. The fact that he laughs is really weird, too. He's probably like "Oh ****, what do I say? Cover up time!" This is probably over analysis, but the point is there's no way that he doesn't know.

  • MGS Composer on the offical composer list: This is huge for Snake. On the official composer list
MGS composer Nobuko Toda is listed. Look on her IMDB page, she almost exclusively does MGS music. People say this doesn't mean anything, because there are plenty of other big name composers on there. But those other big name composers have done a ton of different games: Nobuko Toda has almost exclusively done MGS music. She is even credited for all of the MGS music in Brawl. I don't see any other reason for her to be on there.

  • The GameSpot Interview: Take this one with a grain of salt, but it's still worth mentioning. In a GameSpot interview (start it at 6:50), a representative was asked if Snake would be in. He basically just gave the PR response, "we have not announced Solid Snake" then GameSpot says "so a big question mark?" and he agrees. So no confirming or denying. However, he did seem a tad bit nervous answering the question.
