I was playing the MGS3 Demo today too! Must have gotten spotted at least three times, but managed to get to Sokolov, (Or the 'Thanks For Playing' message) leaving me with a good feeling before school. Looking forward to playing the full game!
Also, any thoughts on Revengeance as a Metal Gear game, and would you recommend it, or should I get the other MGS games like the HD Collection or MGSV?
If anything, Snake "not" fitting in is a good thing. Is Smash Bros. not entirely designed around the idea of universes that don't fit together being able to cross over?
Okay, so I got the demo for Snake Eater 3D and I swear being spotted nearly gave me a heart attack. It's been a couple of minutes and I still feel the palpitations. It doesn't help that the camera is so dang close to the player character (I always zoom out the camera when playing practically anything that lets me control the camera). Obviously I'm super unfamiliar with the controls so after being spotted I spent a couple seconds getting back up from my crouching position, then crouching again, then standing up. I think I killed a guy and put another one to sleep? I ran like the ****ens, ended up in a swamp, successfully made a soldier think he was hallucinating, tranquilized him, and then fell off the bridge after being spotted. Not bad for a first try.
I'm going to try again in a while without using my super headphones. All it did was enhance the stark difference between the silence and ALARMS WEEOOWEEOOH, which nearly made me jump out my chair!
EDIT: Noooo, do not tell me this place censors the name of the great English writer Charles ****ens. I thought it was bad at the Shulk social thread with ****son but wow.
I once was listening to the MGS3 soundtrack, and to take out my head phones, came back, and the alert phase music was on. I immediately froze in place. After realizing I am not playing MGS, my heartbeat started to go down.
The only thing that would be an obstacle to Snake being in Smash 4 would be Konami's say-so. Kojima's open to the idea, but what about the higher-ups of the company? What benefit would Konami have from having Snake return to Smash? What doors would it open?
Seems like it would create new audiences for the Metal Gear franchise. As long as they don't shoot themselves in the foot (like they did with Metal Gear Solid 3 for the 3DS, where they released that and the HD Collection (which had MGS3 and four other games for the same price as the 3DS game) a short time apart), they would be able to re-release Metal Gear Solid games (or do something like remaking Metal Gear or Metal Gear 2) on Nintendo's systems and have a decent-sized group of people more likely to get those games due to Snake's appearances in Smash Bros.
I know there's plenty of people here who got into Metal Gear because of Smash Bros. (myself included - after Snake was announced for Brawl, I looked through old issues of Nintendo Power to find out more about the Twin Snakes and wound up buying it online), or people who got into Nintendo franchises because of Snake's inclusion in Smash Bros. If they brought Snake back, that sort of thing would continue to benefit both companies.
While Lucas and Wolf would as DLC would already make me very satisfied about the roster (and likely be done with speculation for Smash 4), I would be really happy if Snake returned.
I did have the feeling that he would be cut, so him being gone didn't surprise me, and considering how he's third party, it's fairly understandable. However, he was fun to play as in Brawl. That cannot be denied.
Should Snake return, I really would love it if they did a sort of crossover conversations between the codecs and Palutena's Guidance.
I might be getting creative and do a set of conversations...
See nobody is condescending, it's just the ignoramus logic my type has going on in our tiny little minds. I am delusional.
Snake belongs, the thought that he doesn't is just a delusion that thousands of people had simultaneously. There's no reason a militaristic stealth operative wouldn't fit with nintendo's characters.
@BBraydon
: I'm not sure why you're acting like you're the victim here. You came into a thread supporting the return of a character who had already been in Smash Bros., called everyone who supported that character delusional, and ignored any reasons that they had for why Snake should come back (such as Wintropy's entire post on qualities that Metal Gear shares with Nintendo franchises).
The reasons that you used to say that Snake won't come back have already been disproven (such as MGS5 being on non-Nintendo consoles - Metal Gear Solid 4 was a Sony-exclusive game, and yet Snake was included in Super Smash Bros. Brawl regardless, and Snake was considered for Melee even though Metal Gear Solid 2 had already been announced for the Playstation 2), or don't really work to begin with (saying Snake is "just a generic military guy with a bunch of guns", which generally seems to be a sign that someone has never played any Metal Gear games). You basically came into this thread, said "this character doesn't deserve to be in Smash Bros. because I say so", and now you're acting like you were unfairly attacked.
Also, you seem to have a tendency to ignore large sections of the posts that other people make, or take sentence fragments out of context, (such as the previous post that I made, where you ignored absolutely everything but the last sentence) which really doesn't help your case.
Okay, I think the point has been made. Let's just let it die, no need to dwell on petty in-fighting and hair-pulling.
To get things back on track: I was thinking about Snake recently, and I was wondering if anybody thinks his specials could be changed at all? Not because they're bad moves or because they need to be changed, but I'm curious as to whether they'd revamp him a bit like Pit or Bowser and incorporate new skills and weapons from the more recent titles? I think summoning REX or RAY as his Final Smash would be pretty neat, too. Same effect, but who doesn't want to commandeer a bipedal nuclear assault weapon in the middle of a Smash-'em-up?
@Wintropy
It would have to be Rex, Ray is pitiful for a Metal Gear. However, Rex is more along the size of Metal Face(the boss on the Xenoblade stage) for a size comparison.
Personally, I'm not that sure about a Metal Gear FS. Sure, it would be awesome to destroy everything with it, but...haven't Solid Snake devoted his life to destroy every single MG that surfaced on Earth? Having him using it in battle...I don't think it would be right...

As for now, nope.
I've completed only MGS3 so far. But I'm playing MG and MGS in this period. I want to finish them, then going trough MG2, MGS2, MGS4 and Peace Walker (I've already bought all of them).
Anyway this is why I've asked it. Sorry if I wasn't aware that Solid changed his mind in MGS4...

REX is head and shoulders above RAY as a popular Metal Gear. If Snake received a Landmaster-sequel FS, it would most likely be REX.
Though it's worth noting that REX, ignoring it's canonical size of ****ing huge about 3 tank hangars tall, would end up being the size of Hazard Ridley or Metal Face. It's still smaller than the gargantuan EXCELSIUS(iirc) or Peace Walker(horizontally), but still.
So sorry I didn't post for the last two pages. My notifications box was alerting me at all, so I had to reset. It appears I've missed all the drama. Just goes to show how tough we Snake Mains are.
On a completely different note, who else here thought Snake was legit one of the most attractive male characters in Smash? He's beautiful, man. The face. The voice. The butt. And that leapord-skin alt was the most hilariously tacky thing I've ever seen.
Yes. I'm straight but damn, he fine. Only problem is whenever my twin sister walks in on me when I'm play Smash, she'll demand I switch to Snake and charge his down smash. Then she'll make me pause and zoom in on Snake's ass. It's disturbing and hilarious at the same time because she this 5'1 adorable girl.

It's been quiet on that front lately and I'm sure it'll stay that way until Jordan Vogt-Roberts, the tentative director, finishes up Skull Island in 2016. He has reaffirmed that he's on board with MGS, so it's reassuring to know that there's actually some talent behind the film and hasn't become a total ghost town again. Hopefully we'll get some news until he wraps shooting later this year or early on in the next.
The thought of seeing MGS in an IMAX theater with Hollywood production values is beyond exciting. Imagine hearing the Encounter theme when Snake gets found or how they'll work the "!" into a scene.

The following may or may not sound ridiculous, so bear with me.
Has anyone else ever thought of the Metal Gear games as partial history teaching games? I say partial because the fictitious setting hurts it a little, but sometimes, particularly in the Big Boss era, there is indeed a lot of research done, and the things an entry can educate you on are prevalent.
I'll cite Peace Walker for this, as the entry I'm currently the most familiar with.
What it teaches and/or shows you about, accurately(spoilers):
-Lots of Spanish, being set in Costa Rica/Panama.
-The University for Peace is an actual place; except it was founded in 1980, not 1974, making this "erroneous" detail foreshadowing.
-Costa Rica's constitution, specifically how it's not allowed to maintain a full fledged army.
--On that note, Japan's.
-Alternate names for nukes; in this case spears.
-The FLSN; a real organization that fought for freedom against the Somoza regime unti 1979, when it was toppled.
-Nuclear deterrence theory. Plays a central role in the game's plot.
-Complex AIs modeled on the human brain exist; here it's just way too early.
-Nuclear treaties: Detente, the NPT, SALT and TTBT were signed around the Cold War, and like MGS1, the nuke is planned to be launched around the time of a nuclear treatspy, in this case SALT II.
-Cold War incidents, such as the Russian commander refusing to launch a nuclear armed torpedo at an American submarine, that actually happened.
-NORAD's standard operating procedure, including nuclear launch authority.
I probably missed some facts, but even then it's still a lot of knowledge.

As I recall, there's a lot of subtle shout-outs to Cold War history in MGS3, too. The obvious one is "snake eater" (referring to a jungle commando, who would survive in the wilderness by feeding on local fauna, including snakes), but the theme of "friend today, enemy tomorrow" has some impressively realistic connotations with the current situation between the US and Russia.

I'm a history guy, so I love MGS3 because Cold War, Cuba reference at the beginning, etc. I also loved Peace Walker for history and now I'll be loving TPP because of the first Afghanistan war between the Soviets and Afghans taking place at the same time of the game.
@KimKarsmashian
Russian isn't a major theme in the games. Up until MGSV:TPP every time a foreign language is used, it is translated to English/Japanese vocals. The excuse for this is that Snake(Usually Naked Snake) is multilingual, and can understand what is said. I believe Russian is only spoken in MGS3, (but I could be wrong), but it is all heard as English due to Snake's ability to speak Russian.
It's a tradition in vocal works that the characters speak in the language that the viewers are watching it in, regardless of canon language. So it's English for us, but they're canonically speaking Russian, hence why the above line seems so silly out of context.
There are exceptions in works wherein multiple languages are actually spoken by the actors, but video games usually just opt for one universal language, with the characters speaking whatever their native tongue is in the mythos. It's fun when things like this are quipped about in-game~! >w<
I know. I was just pointing out Hayter's (attempted) involvement in the film. I believe that it was stated that the movie was going to using MGS1 storyline.
