The pacing is jank, the wild area is horribly underutilized, and Chairman Rose is one of the worst villains in the series, period.

Some of them are, yes.

Not because of the random encounters, that stuff is outdated, but because the rest of the game is good enough to make up for it.

I feel like Sword's biggest issues are just, its breakneck pace and the fact the plot ****ing sucks.


It feels like they took the criticisms of Sun/Moon too well and made basically everything happen before it even had a chance to start. Routes are abysmally small and linear as hell, and the plot is just always going soo fast that it feels like you're never given a time to just, breathe.


And said plot is just..... DA ENERGY CRISIS IN A THOUSAND YEARS.

That child also shut up after I typed that first paragraph. So I guess God decided to send unto me his Angel of Loud Noise to help me reconsider my path.

Another thing about SwoShi is, the characters felt, extremely bland and surface level imo.


Hop is.... just a worse Hau, and frankly comes off as obnoxious when he's stopping you every town to battle and has the fastest "Self-defeatist to redemption speedrun" I've ever seen.

Bede is a prick and honestly never really gets better, and barely gets any screentime.

Marnie has no character and I swear she's just there to boost Pokemon's fan art numbers.

Leon's really the only enjoyable character in SwoShi IMO.

Honestly, only thing I'm wondering right now is

Is there gonna be a battle facility of sorts? Cause the vibe I'm getting right now is "No", which is worrying. Things like the tournament don't count.



I'm VERY intrigued how Indigo Disc's story is going to go considering all the leaks and whatnot, but is there going to be reason to keep playing once the credits roll outside of just "Catch all the Legendaries and idk finish the Dex"?

I just don't see the point. I don't play Multiplayer, which almost THE true endgame of any Pokemon game, and I don't have the patience to grind those games anymore for shinies and whatever the hell.

Not to mention that once I even do go through the grind, my success is just a slot in the PC.

That's why I like Legends so much. There aren't eight million Pokemon and you can catch them all for real, instead of having to do dumb **** like trading Pokemon to evolve or get version exclusives, and neither was never a good idea, even when it was implemented. And that grind is actually fun.

I love grinding, but not when it's super repetitive and boring. I'm playing a Pokemon game, not a walking simulator.

Hop is actually one of the best rivals in the series, honestly.

Sure, he fights you a lot throughout the game, but like, gameplay aside...he's got actual character development throughout the game. It even subtly shows in his battles when he starts changing up Pokemon (and even drops his Wooloo/Dubwool, his main Pokemon, from his, at one point for a while) after losing to Bede, and his defeat animation at the Championship is an actual gut-punch.

Maybe I'm a little biased, the games are obviously outdated by the Switch's standards, and the story was fine up until Chairman Rose didn't get his morning cup of coffee on time in the game's final act, but I'm just really sick of seeing people call SwSh a borderline irredeemably bad game lmao. The horse has been beaten beyond dead at this point.

I'm way late to the convo but yeah the more I think about it the less I like SwSh. Not only was it hella rushed but you could tell the game had zero direction aside from "make HD Pokemon". Plot was disjointed, felt like they had to hit the Pokemon cliches out of necessity which led to horrible pacing. The horrible pacing gave us some terrible characters cause none of them had time to cook and develop aside from Sonia, Hop, and Leon. Bede had potential but they "killed" him off early in the story. Terrible world design (where are the dungeons? The branching paths? The secret legendary locations?), and on top of that the game is just ugly, it looks worse than the 3DS games (especially Gen 7 which still looks gorgeous to this day).

Genuinelly a bottom 3 Pokemon game, like it's better than 1 and 2 but that's the bare minimum for a game released almost 2 decades later than the origins.

I also may be biased cause I dropped $90 on this

If anything ,this actually does seem to be a take that's almost universally agreed upon.

Yeah, some people were upset about unskippable cutscenes, but there's really no denying that SM not only has the strongest story in the Pokemon series, but also just a phenomenal story in it';s own right.

Not really a hot take, it all depends on what you're looking for. Gen 5 is up there cause of a super strong cast of villians and Gen 9 is up there cause of a super strong cast of protagonists. I don't think 7 outdoes those two gens in their strong suits but it does both well enough that I agree with your point.

On the Indigo Disk, it looks fun. If the leaks mean anything, then yeah it's pretty expansive too. At the least, I had a good experience with base Gen 9 overall and the DLC is just extra goodies to me, so I'd enjoy it regardless, unless it bricks my Switch or something,
