The Second B up Sweet Spot

So I'm probably not the only one that has noticed this (I don't post here much) but Marth has 2 sweet spots to his Dolphin Slash. The first one is the one that everyone knows that launches horizontally and that is usually executed by shielding and then using a dolphin slash. The second one launches vertically which makes it really easy to KO someone when they are in the air rather than just waiting for them to attack you, you can dolphin slash them while they are in the air finishing a recovery.

My problem is that I have been having some trouble finding exactly where the sweat spot that launches vertically is. I've only been able to do it randomly, but I do know that it kills around 160%. So does anyone have a video of it?

"ask a question thread"

Anyways, I always thought that it was bad DI that determine the vertical killing power of dolphin slash since I don't remember them mentioning this in any of the guides. I think the only tipper dolphin slash has is when you're in the face of you're opponent and that is considered the tipper (I'm not sure at all though).

I'd actually like this here, that way a lot of people who may not have thought about it can see this. It's actually an extreamly useful KO technique. Maybe I would like to bring the idea up more than asking the question about it.

I have only read one Marth guide (on gamefaqs) and I am probably 10 times better than the person that wrote it because it proposed a lot of things that were completely untrue, especially in the weakness section for marth. But anyway, there was no mention of this move.

Unless there is proof that a certain hit box on dolphin slash sends the opponent upwards, then I'll stick with the bad DI argument.

Well, I'm thinking it has the same hitbox as the backside of his spike except it's toward the top of him instead the bottom. It happens way to often for there not to be a hitbox for it. If no one has it or knows about it, I will spend more time trying to find it myself and then hopefully get a video up to help the Marth community. But it is a very good KO move.

Its not a sweet spot....
Its also not as powerful imo.

This is just like reverse DS in melee except you have a vertical knockback not horizontal, also the hitbox is much smaller than the melee version. The only time I get the vertical knockback is when the opponent runs right through me or lands with an aerial right on top of me as I shield then DS OoS.

Anyway there's a thread on vertical kill moves which would be a better options then this. http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=198144&page=1

Also using this to hit opponents out of their recovery is risky. If you are going for them if they recover high if you miss you will be punished very heavily and when you are punishing them for going below the stage the DS won't kill because you are even farther away from the vertical blast zone. And if they are recovering level to the stage then you're better off doing a normal sweetspot DS which kills earlier and more reliably. Of course this may be useful to know and certainly will have applications such as when performing a juggle trap, but just so you know this is not your best option.

I'd like to just briefly mention that you can reach that hitbox by footstool jumping, then immediately use Up-B. (Maybe leads to star KO if opponent is trying to juggle?)

It's in the back of Marth. I've hit with it alot, and it's not good for killing at all tbh. Up-air will always be better for vertical kills in the air because of it's easy sweet spot, range, and I THINK better knockback.
