Never expected many people to want Ayumi with Takamaru out of the running.

But don’t get too excited, she just may get the exact same fate as Sukapon. Either way, we won’t know until the game comes out.

Feeling better that you wanted to return?

Well naturally people WILL flock over to whoever is the token retro for Smash if one goes down. Though that's IF we will get one with the roster running thin this time and doing in a new direction.

Though I agree with you. If we get no Ayumi in the roster, she will be an Assist Trophy. Like what a certain someone said to Sukapon fans, it's better than nothing.

Guess so.

Might as well update the support list.

And anticipate whatever new discussion could happen.

One of the goals of the Ayumi thread is FTC being recognized. No matter what way she makes it we win, but being playable would be huge and I would laugh.

I was actually surprised that Sakurai revisited the idea of Sukapon.

Sukapon was suggested as an item in Melee. Although, we can’t ride it, it was surprising to finally see it back in Smash. So, maybe Sakurai is revisiting the idea of Ayumi being playable or anything he wasn’t able to get working?

Well know that Ayumi’s biggest competition is out of the way.

One thing Ayumi has over Takamaru is the "WTF" factor that Mr G&W, ROB, and Duck Hunt have, so maybe it will help her out in Sakurai's selection for a retro rep.

This.

At least more people who know of her if she were to be an AT. But as a fighter would be a plus.

That is a possible theory. Sukapon did technically come back as an item as he was intended to for many years ago.

I wouldn't get my hopes up, but maybe he has something special planned for Ayumi next, assuming he's still not caught up on "No more Japan only fighters".

She still has to compete with characters like Bubbles and Excitebiker for the WTF fighter position.

But we shall see.

One can hope he kept his drafts for Melee.

There might be still a chance for Ayumi to make it in, considering the long overdue inclusion of Daisy & Ridley and that Ayumi was strongly considered for Melee, i`ve haven`t gave up hope yet.

Yeah, it feels like Sakurai is (once again) looking back at things that he considered for/went unused in previous games (like Sukapon). As Yomi's Biggest Fan Yomi's Biggest Fan has said, we can only hope Sakurai's stance on Japan-prominent characters has been severely lowered/is non-existent at this point.

Never expected many people to want Ayumi with Takamaru out of the running.

Honestly, I've been seeing tons of people flock to either Ayumi or Lip (Well, WAY moreso the latter than the former) to be Ultimate's newest "token retro/token Japan-prominent" character ever since Takamaru was booted out of the running.

Still though, if you all want my honest opinion? Just like with Sukapon and even Takamaru and Prince Sable before him, if Ayumi and/or Lip were ATs (as salty I'd be over it at first) I'd still take it as they need the recognition.

That's right.

IF she will be an Assist Trophy, it's still a plus as more and more people would want to look into Famicom Detective Club. Just like how Sukapon's AT would get more people to look up Joy Mech Fight.

And far enough. Choices are narrowing down after these deconfirmations. Even I believe that Lip has Ayumi beat as far as a louder fandom in Japan, even when counting both game fandoms since at least puzzle games would have more appeal than a gritty point and click series.

I currently live in Tokyo and there are people here, myself included, who would like to see Ayumi Tachibana represented in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, whether it be as a playable character or assist trophy. Personally, while I would like to see her as a playable character, having her available as an assist trophy would hopefully bring more attention to the series just as well. As an aside, when I was originally hired by Nintendo to work on Miiverse, one of the people I had met there was a huge fan of the series and had wanted her to be in ever since they discovered her from the trophy in Melee.

Awesome, nice to see there is visible support for her in Japan. And it’s refreshing to meet someone who originally worked with Nintendo. Would would had thought there are higher ups who also happen to be big Famicom Detective Club fans.

Welcome aboard.

Sephazon’s idea would be the best way to potray her. Although her using her glass to discover hidden items for the playable to use would be cool. A neat callback to how you looked for evidence in the game.

Indeed. I plan to pick up the games for tomorrow. The first two were re-released as Famicom Classic Mini games on the GameBoy Advance here in Japan.
Wait... The Ayumi Games are in the GameBoy Advance? I though people would need Famicoms to play that stuff.

The first two games ("The Missing Heir" & "Girl in the Back") were originally indeed for the Famicom Disk System. The second game got an updated remake for the Super Famicom's "Nintendo Power" service a few years later. And the third game ("Lost Memories in the Snow" was a Sattelaview exclusive, which utilized streamed voice acting. When Nintendo made the NES/Famicom classics series for the GBA, Japan did get the FDS version of the first two games in 2014.

In addition to that, nearly all of the versions of the first two games were re-released for the VC in Japan for Wii, Wii U and 3DS. Wii and 3DS have all three versions available, while the Wii U is missing the FDS of the second game. Also the 3DS release not even being a year old.
List of Wii VC games in Japan

So plenty of ways to buy the first two games, be it the original or SFC remake. Though the language barrier is an issue for a lot of people.

All of this is true.

A fan translation of the SFC remake of The Girl in Back exists and I’ve played that.

Additionally, both The Missing Heir and Girl in the Back were re-released for the Famicom Mini series on the Game Boy Advance, as one combined game. However, this version, as with many other games in the Famicom Mini series, was released exclusively in Japan.

I'm aware of the translation, played through it years ago and am playing through it right now again. But my post was simply about all the legitimate releases and re-releases over the years without having to resort to emulation. Still good to mention for those who didn't know.

I can't find any information about a double pack. And neither GameFAQs nor Wikipedia lists one either. Only that both game got a separate release.

I posted the boxart. When it was rereleased in Japan for the Game Boy Advance in the Famicom Mini series, the first two games were combined into the same cartridge.

But you didn't? You posted the box of the first game. Nor do the links say anything about the first two games being combined. What it says is
Unlike the original game which was split in two, this game was released a single cartridge with the complete story.
Referring to the FDS games being split in two disks, not beng two games.
Here are the two boxes for the GBA games:
https://media3.nin-nin-game.com/316...n-game-boy-advance-used-good-condition-en.jpg
https://media2.nin-nin-game.com/316...n-game-boy-advance-used-good-condition-en.jpg
Why would they release the second game separately when there allegedly is a version with both games on it to begin with? On the very same day even, both being 10th August 2004.

Also worth mentioning, that version of Famicom Detective Club was given a mature rating equivalent in Japan.

Since the CERO had gotten stricter at that time and things like blood and murder don't warrant a low rating anymore.

The games are quite dark after all, so I am not surprised by the rating changes in modern times.

The murders were treated very realistically and there is little to no humor to lighten things up (except for the sly comment you make when you scan the skirt of yoko's corpse, but that is more disturbing than funny since it IS a dead girl's body). This isn't like an RPG where a villain dies in a unrealistic way, this is a down to earth, realistic murder case in 80's Japan when crime rates were moderately high).

I purchased the Famicom Mini series versions of Famicom Detective Club as well as the original games for the Famicom Disk System this weekend. Indeed, I had misinterpreted what I had read online.

As to not confuse others, the first two games were released individually in the Famicom Mini series on the Gameboy Advance. As Taigiry has pointed out, the first game was released as two seperate disks on the Famicom Disk System. The first game had its two disks combined into one for the Famicom Mini series. The sequel remained an independent game.

It’s nice to know that there is support for Ayumi in Japan.

Maybe there have been more awareness for Ayumi in Japan than we have thought?

The games are considered classics in Japan after all, especially The Girl in Back.

Just that the one thing holding her back is Sakurai not wanting too many characters that only a Japanese audience would care for more than the West.

Her games being only in Japan is one of the biggest obstacles.

The fact Sukapon was made into an Assist Trophy doesn't bode well for Ayumi's inclusion.

Might want to add this to the OP.

And I will have a link to the source so others can ask him for icons.

And added. This will compliment the OP well.

I hope she can make it in to make it up to Takamaru fans who also support her like Azure.
We can hope.

While it is true some supporters wants both, there's a minority that feels that she would stand out more.

But you are right, having her can make up for Taka's loss easily.

It looks great.

Y’know, I’m hoping that if Ayumi gets added, maybe have Takamaru added later on as DLC. If “who was the person that wanted the Takamaru game?” ends up creating and releasing the Muramusa? Castle sequel that he wanted to do, I feel that Sakurai may be more interested in adding Takamaru.

I need that Ayumi vs Takamaru matchup!

Will Sakurai upgrade assist trophy playable later on DLC. In my mind I dont think Sakurai will it never happen in Brawl or Smash 4. But I will be lying if I didn't want Takamaru playable I so do but its hurt it didn't worry me when Daisy was announce as echoe fighter. Sakurai could make Ultimate is final game.

That would be Kamiya and he's a one trick pony. He says lots of things and could be either trolling or generous,. He did find the original game OK when he played it on the 3DS eShop. Also he's known to block any and everyone that even asks him the wrong thing. So I would stay on his good side.

Though ither way. I would welcome that. It would be an interesting match up.

These are my thoughts too. There is rarely a case where Sakurai added an AT as a fighter as post game DLC. He's possibly aware of the outcry for Waluigi for example, but even I doubt he would give in in the end of the day.

In a perfect world, most of the AT's we have could be promoted as fighters for DLC. But it's not 100% possible. But we will see.

Waluigi is a Mario side character and nothing more I argue that Takamaru should be upgrade as a character. Im sick of the Waluigi memes.

To be honest, we only had one game with DLC so far.

However seeing the way this game is turning out, I can see characters from later games or new IPS get in as DLC since we’re so early into the Switch’s lifespan, we already have 4 potential characters to be DLC.

If Kamiya does end up making a sequel, then that would make Tamamaru chances much more likely because he is the protagonist of a recent game with moveset potential, and Sakurai can finally add him as a character and promote him. AT or not, I think Sakurai would not add him in just because he’s an AT.

Waluigi in the other hand has and is most likely going to be a spin off character, and seems to be more on the meme side. So I doubt Waluigi will be playable.

Now with an official design for New Tendo City, Ayumi's ready to investigate the mysteries of the big city. Perhaps her first case could be why her older cousin, Takamaru has such a big hatred for Mike Jones! ~ Afro
