I admit, I found it a weird idea when the rumours first surfaced, but I've been open to it since day one. I love occasional canonical crossovers, or even just canonical links between series (I maintain a big list) that work well, and since the Rabbids' gig is invading places, I really like this one.Okay so I slept on it and now I'm not as annoyed by it.
I'm not a particular fan of the game's alleged genre, but the idea is appealing enough to me to spark enough curiousity for me to at least give it a look. Whether it's ultimately for me, I don't know. I guess we'll see before too long.
That is something I'd expect them to do, really - from the Vans/Nintendo clothing and accessories collaboration a little while back, to the recent Super Mario McDonalds Happy Meal toys, to the upcoming theme park at Universal Studios, to this, they're doing everything I would expect in terms of continuing to keep an evergreen franchise relevant.Desperation wasn't the right word, it's more like branching out to a wider audience.
I think the thing here is that this wasn't the first crossover in a lot of people's minds!
Smash is pretty broadly aimed at a family audience, so its target covers a pretty wide range of ages.I'm not sure if the Rabbids reach out to a wider audience than Rayman when it comes to Smash. I still think he beats them in being more recognisable and likeable for the target audience.
In a very focussed place like this, where that audience seems to skew a little older, I would expect Rayman to be more recognisable and likeable, since a lot of us can remember when he was originally relevant, but out there in the wider market, I'd have to side with the Rabbids.
At the end of the day, we have no way of knowing. Nothing we do here really has any influence on what a team far away in another country is going to choose.
I do like them, indeed! The Rabbids are a modern incarnation of the slapstick and absurdism from classic cartoons like Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, and Ren & Stimpy, all of which I grew up watching, so I've always found them amusing. You really like the Rabbids don't you? I still find them quite annoying but I'll stop being a killjoy then
Anyway, I'm getting too off-topic here, since we don't know if Daisy is even involved in this crossover game yet, so I'll conclude by saying don't worry about being a killjoy - there's stuff that's not made for me, there's stuff that's not made for you. We all have different tastes, and I get that, and it's what leads to interesting discussions. Some people want Daisy in Smash, some people don't. Some people are going to be utterly horrified if there's an official Daisy-Rabbid, and some of us are going to laugh like maniacs if it happens.
If the playable characters are set in stone, Daisy and Daisy-Rabbid's inclusion as NPCs would be better than nothing, I think. It's more exposure!Though I wonder if it's only an NPC, as it is said that there are only 8 playable characters.
