It will probably be in March or April. The date is yet to be set because we have not found an adequate venue. I live in Matamoros and unfortunately if I was to host it in my house nobody would come. Since I need to host in Brownsville, and my best friend's house and girlfriend's house is out of the picture, I am looking around for a suitable place.

I might try UTB, but I will have to speak to Student Services first.


That aside, are there any other Brawl events coming up in the Valley? I would like to attend.

You guys play Melee more than Brawl around here? I will be hosting tournaments down here locally since I have a pretty large community but they are going to be Brawl-only.

No just the people who post here play melee, the majority is brawl.

I would have a problem considering I have only one gamecube and a scratched copy of Melee. Either way, Brawl. It looks like the date will be set to two Saturdays from now. I'll be more specific soon.

Well I hope everyone can attend. I have an official date and location.

The name of the event will be called

"Brownsville Brawlfest"

Located in 700 Paredes Avenue inside the big two story building with a large 700 on it. It is located off Paredes in Brownsville before Boca Chica (if you are coming from UTB or the bridge) and after Boca Chica if you are coming north from the Mall.

From Boca Chica you take Paredes south towards UTB, and it will be the last building on that road to your right, the only two story building there.

The exact location will be on the Second floor of that building, you can't miss it, there will be a sign there and plenty of people.



The tournament will be held in February 21st on a Saturday.

We are expecting somewhere between 30-50 people. The more people, the higher the first place prize will be around 50-75 dollars. (The more people, the more the prize)


The cost will be

$1 dollar to get in
$5 dollars to register to 1v1 Brawl singles

On our second event if enough people want to, we will do teams.

Let me know if I missed out any information I was supposed to give.

Alright, it will be about 50% for first place, since entry fee is only one dollar (since it will be at my bosses office, and I don't want it to get EXTREMELY packed with people who wouldn't even play)

And since I'm going to give him a small cut of the extra, first place will get about 50%.

So if 20 people go First place will be about 50 dollars, if more people go I will make second and third place a little higher.

Unfortunately my own personal Wii is not Tournament material because it Disc Read Error's on us quite often.


Yes rules will be SBR rules, I will go post this on the Tournament Listings soon.


Meta Knight is legal. First stage will be a neutral stage you strike off in turns, double blind if one person complains..

Second round is Counterpick for loser, one ban for winner, then winner picks character, then loser picks character.

Repeat for third round if necessary. I didn't feel like posting the rules because they are virtually identical. I should have mentioned that though.

That is a good idea, let me try to make a more official looking post in Tournament Listings and then if you can magik you can copy that into the first page of this one to advertise and change the title.

Anything else you wanted to know?


You are welcome to bring your own TV / Wii / Melee for friendlies if you want. We should have plenty of room after about 3 or 4 when the other rooms from the office get cleared up.


Edit: No teams for now, we might make teams in the future if more people are interested. I have a large community that wants to run tournaments consistantly so we might try to do at least once a month. This will be our first so we are going to be a little more conservative.

As for Low tier that would probably come even after teams, but I am definately down for trying to organize one soon, I want to put my Mario to good use.

Because 6 dollars is fine. I don't want to turn people away because they don't want to pay. There are plenty of people here who are showing up "just for fun" and they know they don't stand a chance to win so making it 10 bucks would make many of these not want to go. Well anyway the prize money is there, it should be at least 50 dollars so no matter what there will be a good return.

majoras ate rat poop..... In order to have a decent tourney you need to make it brawl and melée exclusive.... People don't like showing up when they know that he setups are being used for other games.... Make it brawl and melée exclusive and me and miky will garauntee a big turnout.... But melée must be included

also ill copy magiks bulletin and put it on the RGV Smashers myspace. dont no if it will help since its a bunch of melee players, with a few brawl.

I really hope you all can change your mind but the tournament has already been organized as Brawl exclusive, sorry. In the future I can try to expand on that.

what tseste was talking about is the tournies we attend that are. melee/brawl/MvC2/ SF3/SF2/SF HD remix/ GGAC/TvC/MvSNK2. too many games+ not enough set ups+starting late= very long tournies with alot of just waiting around and finishing like at 10 pm. we need to have Melee/Brawl tournies. just like the good ol' days. those other games r kool and i dont mind going to the UPLOADED tournies but they dont pull in the numbers smash does.

If tournaments start getting bigger and people want more events that is probably how it would go. I would not mind hosting a smaller Melee group as well, but it is not priority, as none of the members of the community that I have already play Melee or like it, except for like two. I myself would only compete in Brawl as well.

Are you from Corpus? I am hosting a tournament the 21st of February but after that the date is hypothetical. If it is best for the majority a date set during Holy Week might be possible. Would you come down?
