UPDATE: Unfortunately, it looks like this will need to be postponed for a future date. I have found today that due to a modified Finals schedule, the UMBC Gameroom will not be open this weekend. I'm disappointed that I couldn't find this out sooner, but there seemed to be no indication of the gameroom being closed on Sunday until just this week.

I'm going to have to look into what the next weekend is that the gameroom will definitely be open for and plan for a tournament then.

Until that time, I would like to at least have some fests there on some weekday(s). I'll keep everyone updated with possible days coming up for festage in regards to the new schedule.

THE RETURN OF UMBC SMASHFESTS

What's up everyone,

I'm looking to have fests at UMBC once again, focusing on melee and possibly brawl+. There's a multitude of games being played there constantly so pretty much any game is welcome

____________________________________________________________________________

DATE: Sunday, May 17th

WHAT: Melee tournament / smashfest. This will include Brawl+ as well if there are enough set-ups and interest for it.

WHERE: The University of Maryland Baltimore County Game Room, located inside The Commons building on the 3rd floor.

PARKING: Free parking along the loop (Hilltop Circle) which circumferences the entire campus. Pretty much anywhere on the campus that doesn't require a permit is fair game.

ADDRESS:
1000 Hilltop Circle
Baltimore, MD 21250
HINT: Use MAPQUEST!

CAMPUS MAP:
http://www.umbc.edu/aboutumbc/campusmap/map_flash.html

TOURNAMENTS: $5 for Singles and $5 for Doubles ($10 per team). Standard MLG Rules apply.

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE* (The gameroom is open from 2 - 10pm):
2:30 pm : Begin setting up
3:00 pm : Melee Doubles / Brawl+ Doubles
5:00 pm : Melee Singles / Brawl+ Singles
8:00 pm : Draft crews / whatever else
9:30 pm : Start packing everything up
10:00 pm : End

* Please note that this is a smashfest first and foremost. Tournaments will happen depending on the turnout, number of players willing to enter etc.

PRIZE PAYOUTS:
Singles:
1. 65%
2. 25%
3. 10%

Doubles:
1. 80%
2. 20%
3. Money back

WHAT WILL BE THERE ALREADY:
- 4 Regular TVs w/ cubes, some HDTVs, and possibly a big screen TV. This is an unofficial event, meaning it is not sponsored or hosted by UMBC in any way (Just like they used to be with the exception of Pound 3). Some of the TVs may have other games being played on them as they are not being reserved for our use or anything like that. I doubt there will be a shortage of TVs however, so there really isn't much need for anyone to bring TVs.

WHAT WE WILL NEED:
- EXTENSION CORDS, copies of melee, Wii's w/ Brawl+. Please note that this is a BYOC event (bring your own controller).

OVERVIEW OF EQUIPMENT
TV'S:
5 - UMBC

CUBES
4 - UMBC
1 - VisT

EXTENSION CORDS - We need at least 3
1 - VisT

MELEE DISCS (1/5)
1 - VisT

Brawl+ Wiis (0/?)

LET ME KNOW IF YOU CAN BRING ANY OF THE NEEDED ITEMS

Brawl+ is gay.

I am down for some Melee though, Sundays sound good.
I've only played Brawl+ with some ppl at my school that have it...but it was pretty fun. Or at least more so than Brawl usually is. I'm really only interested in Melee, but more ppl would probably come if i keep the games open a bit.. ::blues shrug::

Anyway, I'm thinking the Sunday after next might be a good day (Sunday, May 17th) since Apex is next weekend.

Wifey is always down for Melee. And I'm pretty close so I'd love to take a little drive over there.

If you want to have a whole tournament then any Saturday will do, but if you want to just have a fest then I vote on a weekday. Say, a Monday night, would be best for me.

Weekday fests w/ the occasional weekend tournament would work just like it used to. Only problem would be settling on a day of the week that would work best.

I'm thinking there should be a couple fests or so to get the ball rolling, then plan for a decently big tournament from there.

As far as fests go, I can be at there any day of the week by 8:30 at the latest if I have work, or earlier if I'm already there for classes. The gameroom is pretty much open all day up until midnight I believe (for anyone wanting to get there earlier). Thursdays are the best days for me since I usually don't have work or much school.

Also, if anyone wants to smash this Tuesday after 6:45, I'll be done with classes and willing to smash assuming ppl come.

Jcaesar - cool, we would def need a brawl+ setup to make it happen.

Alright everyone, so how does having some festage on either Saturday, May 16th or Sunday, May 17th sound? There are two brawl events going on Saturday, but since most of the ppl that would come to this are interested in either Melee or Brawl+, I don't think it's a problem. This would be a fest first and foremost, but we'll run a tournament there too assuming there's enough people. From there, I'll get a better idea of when to host the next thing whether it be more fests or fests + tourney etc..

I'd like to have regular weekly fests, but I'm gonna need more input for a good day of the week to consistently have it on...

Yo, weekly smashfests sounds AWESOME. Unfortunately, i can't promise being there the 16th or 17th... Too close to finals. If you're gonna be doing weekly's, I'll definitely hit that up sometime. I have a few friends that can tag along too. We can also bring the Melee set up

Hey Vist, I have a tournament I'm running on the 16th. Any other day is fine. If you hold tournaments on Sundays, then I'll be there most likely.

Beyond the Limit (big Brawl+ tourney in philly) and Chu's Dojo are both happening on the 16th. I'm sure people will attend on Sunday.

Sunday Vist! I'll bring my Wii btw. And name a day for fests and Btree'll make it, and try to bring his Wii. I like Fridays. However, any day is fine with me, since I can come straight from work which is veru close.

Seems like Sunday, May 17th would be best. I'll start hammering out some details soon like the start and end time. Stay tuned and spread the word

sweet, sounds good...

Can't make that, that's the same weekend as a large B+ tourney in Philly.
Ah I see. Well, if you are back in town sunday afternoon, you could still come on down assuming you're not worn out.

Sweet! I'll definitely be at this if there is enough interest. Vist, you should probably fix up the first post and make it more... organized and visually appealing? Maybe you can make another thread in the tournament listings area. Make sure to mention the city and state of the tournament in the title page. You should get a good amount of people (20+).

I'd be down for something down at UMBC. I've got nothing to do this summer, getting back into Melee would be fun. Looking forward to seeing new and old faces alike.

Yeah, Twig and I have been playing sporadically this past year. Playing with the actual community again should be fun. Can't wait!

Also: Let's see if you recognize me :)
