So what, the PL/PW crossover is going to be their last hurrahs? (Since PW is no longer a lawyer in his canon) Kind of saddening when you think about it....
There's a new PL game coming for the 3DS that was just revealed ant this last Nintendo Direct.

I think the PW/PL crossover actually takes place in before the "present-day" Layton timeline (Curious Village, Diabolical Box, Unwound Future). At least, the design for Luke is the young design found in the prequel trilogy.

Last Specter, Eternal Diva (Movie 1), Mask of Miracle, Unnamed Movie 2, Advanced Civilization (announced today), Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright, Curious Village, Diabolical Box, Unwound Future.

I'm pretty sure that's how it goes chronologically. I'm taking a guess about the crossover, but that guess is based on what I've seen of Luke's design in that game. It's the same one from Last Specter through Mask of Miracle.

But yeah, I wish they'd do a chronological sequel to Unwound Future to finish the series. Then again, that game's plot was so unbelievably engaging, it'd be hard to top it. But the series deserves some sort of grandiose closure plot-wise.

But there were also scenes of Luke wearing his original outfit from the Original Trilogy. So currently it's not very clear on what part of the Layton timeline the crossover takes place. I'd say it takes place before Curious Village and after the sixth game.

I'm saying that because neither Emmy nor Flora or anybody else along with Layton and Luke were present in that game. Or so far we've seen of it seems to be only these two who will be present. And Layton and Luke pretty much started over during Curious village. So that's my guess of where the crossover takes place. Right in between the two trilogies.

Yeah I really do hope they will continue the series for at least one more trilogy so they can really end it with a "bang!" :)

Have there been any details shared about the second movie? I don't know why, but I'm absolutely enamored with the Eternal Diva.

Uggggh, I need Layton to be in this game.

None that I now of. But since the latest game has been announced. I don't think we have to wait that long for the next movie to be announced. We will probably get more info somewhere in October or November I believe. ^^

Same here. He's my most wanted character for smash. I don't care what characters they put in. Just so long as Layton's a playable character in this game even if it's in just one of the two. :)

Professor Layton would be my ideal character for Smash Bros. He is just so awesome. I have to add it does upset me that the games popularity has decreased through out the years, and so I don't see the series continuing for a long time :(. I feel as though most people who didn't play it and didn't give it a chance are missing out. Layton games are without a doubt some of the best games I've ever played. But enough rambling: back to the topic.
Layton for SSB 3DS!

Layton games went under my radar to be honest.

Considered buying one then suddenly I see a game for a franchise I love. Forgot completely about Layton.

I do see Layton being a 3DS exclusive third party. (If Sakurai does that)

This is the first time I've heard about this viagra 25mg game and I thought he was real. I have a DS and I'll surely going to buy this game. I really love to solve puzzles with a lot of twists.

They may have flown under your radar, but Layton games are huge.

HUGE.

I mean, there's no overstating his popularity. He's an icon of the DS/3DS family. Moreso in the east than the west, but still. He's insanely popular. If you'd play one, you'd see why. It's the game of its genre I can even get into. The characters are awesome.

You should totes play them all. And watch the movie.

Also system exclusives is a gross idea.

If anybody plans to start with this series for the first time. I would suggest start first with the original trilogy (Curious Village, Diabolical/Pandora's Box and Unwound/ Lost Future) since if your wanting to follow the series chronologically with Last Specters Call and go from there until the original trilogy, they may become hard to get ahold of by the time the 6th game comes out.

Unless they decide to remake the original trilogy to game 6 type quality or better. (Which I don't mind since I would love to have a Level-5 made 3D model of Flora, Don Paolo, Anton and Claire and maybe seeing some more animated cutscenes) You will probably have a hard time getting a copy of them unless you go for online sites such as Amazon or shops that sell used games of course.

Another reason I'm suggesting this is if you start with the prequels. You may feel the originals being a little aging in terms of size and content compared to the prequels. (Especially Curious Village) Unless you only want to follow the story and don't care much about the gameplay, features and content then I suppose its fine if you want to start with the prequels first.

Just my opinion. Its all up to you in the end. Do enjoy if you want to try the series out. Have fun! ^_^

If any series is the icon of hand-helds, then it's Pokemon, with only colo and XD in terms of main-games on home consoles as well as those 10 or so mains for the gb/gba/gbc/ds/dsl/dsi.

An icon. This indicates more than one. Plural, if you will. Plus, I didn't say icon of handhelds in general, just the DS Family.

Which the Layton series is. As is the Pokemon series, but its reach is much more broad than just the DS Family.

Hm, makes sense. A release game for the DS was either/both Pokemon Trozei and Pokemon Link, so Nintendo certainly wanted to label Pokemon as a series on the DS.

Phoenix would be fun but I think I'd rather see Layton. =p

Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask will be releasing soon next week I believe for Europe and a few day's afterwards for America if I remember correctly. Can't wait. It's looking like the gameplay's been getting a revamp (but likely still with the same style). I'm looking forward to it.

I'll see if I can do a few codecs when I get more time. Just for fun. :)

So I've updated the original post with further information such as more music and two codect for Snake and Pit in this thread. I also cleaned it up a bit by placing every topic into a smaller box that you can just open and read for more convenience instead of going through that gigantic wall of text.

I also made a section containing all the people who support Layton, I had to go through the messages here and some are worded in a way that makes it a little difficult to understand whether they like to see Layton in smash or not. If you do or don't support him you can just tell me and I will add/remove you from the list in the OP. Hope that's okay.

I still need to include more info and stuff in here thought. I'm also thinking of changing his sword with a lead pipe since he uses it again in the sixth game apparently. I'm starting think a lead pipe suits him better in contrast with the rest of his moves than a sword.

Apologies for being so inactive again on this site. And apologies for the bump and double post too. ^^'

Heck Layton can even be a good reason to introduce Zoroark in the story mode since she can use her illusion thing to disguise herself as one of the characters who teamed up with Layton.
Oh wow this really really needs to happen. I think Professor Layton would fit in quite well with an adventure mode similar to SSE. Drinking tea with Peach, catching culprits, and kicking some *** being a Gentleman. And of course that siganture moment of him revealing that one of the characters is actually Zoroark. :awesome:

Although it seems debateable about whether Luke should be included as a switch-in/sidekick of Layton, he's probably more plausible as an Assist Trophy, or as mentioned before somehow included in the moveset, perhaps appearing during the Final Smash. It would be quite cool if Luke got an appearance in the adventure mode too.

And yes I signed up just to comment on how awesome Layton is!

Indeed he would. Layton is a good way of introducing Zoroark. It's just his thing, especially since the main villains of the Layton series always have this habit of disguising themselves as somebody and Layton always being able to look through them in the end. Zoroark fit's the bill for that if we got another adventure mode like the Subspace emissary.

But like I said, I'm kinda worried how that would play out if everybody is silent again.

Yeah I'm not sure how Luke would fit into smash, especially as the series is third party. I think the best thing for him is to just be an assist trophy. Though I think Ness could be the closest thing to "Luke" for Layton in adventure mode. But that's just me. So yeah.

I'll add you to the support list. ^_^

The Miracle Mask

Well, I just finished Professor Layton and The Miracle Mask... and loved it. Did anyone else play it, and if so, what are your opinions?

After completing a bunch of Layton's games and read this awesome topic, Hershel became my number 1 most wanted character in Sm4sh.

Seriously, we need him. He's awesome.

As a stage though, I think Montedore would be even better than St. Mystere. They're both awesome anyway.

@Carolus Rex
I'm very happy to hear you enjoyed the Layton series. Layton would really be epic for smash. ^_^

Agreed.

I suppose Monte D'or could work too. I believe it's about just as small as St. Mystere (Maybe a little bigger) so it could also work as a Delfino Island type stage. Or maybe the Reunion inn or the Ruin's of Akbadain could be pretty interesting stages too.

If anybody has any interesting Layton stage idea's, feel free to to tell me about them. I'll be happy to add them to the stage list as well.

I'll add you to the support list if I haven't already. Carolus Rex. Thanks. ^_^

Yes I also enjoyed Miracle Mask and definitely recommend 3DS owners to play it if they haven't yet. :)

I thought it was incredible, and it left us with an epic cliffhanger for the next game.

Professor Layton is my number 1 third party pick for smash 4.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it too, colder_than_ice. I've included you to the support list.

hm... Maybe I should start a discussion in order to keep the thread from falling into the other pages again.

So if Layton were to become a playable character in Smash. What sort's of alternate costumes can you imagine him wearing? Of course he will be wearing something green, red and blue for team battles.

I'd like to see him wear that white outfit he wear's in Miracle Mask plus.

What other colours?

Young Hershel would be a good alternate costume, with those afro hair lol.
I still have to play some other games so I don't really know, though. Maybe they could do something original and give him the Mask just for fun. Or maybe a color palette based on Luke for the blue team.

I like the idea of young Hershel alternate costume.

I'll see if I can make an artwork with Layton and 5 more colour swaps. Though I can't make any promises... ^^;

I just can't wait until his final smash.

That reminds me of a puzzle! And then everyone has to wait for 30 minutes while the Layton user solves a puzzle on the Wii U gamepad.

I love Layton as you can see by my signature. Young Hershel could work, or even the Young Prof who appears in Unwound Future, with the red hat.

Lol that would be torture. But I think a shorter timed puzzle would be better. But then again, that may end up feeling more WarioWare-ish than Layton-ish. :p

The young Hershel's from the third and fifth games would be perfect as alternate costumes. I think we are more likely to see the Miracle Mask one if he would get an alt. :)

I'll add both of you to the support list if you don't mind. ^_^

At first I wasn't a particularly big fan of Layton's inclusion mainly because of the possible limitations his inclusion could have against other 3rd party characters and how being thrown into a fighting such as this could damage his gentlemanly demeanor. Given some more time and thought I would go as far as saying that now I would not mind his inclusion into the next game after seeing his potential fighting kit as well as the reasoning for his inclusion.

I added you Ariand/AEM ^_^

By the way. Level-5 released the latest trailer of Professor Layton and the Azran Legacies. Check it out.

Deep stuff... I do really wish Level-5 did a sequel trilogy though since I want to see some of the old characters return. But oh well's... :/

I don't think they are going to announce a new Layton game for E3... Oh you mean Smash Bros and Layton. He could actually end up as the Snake of Smash 4. Since the story behind Layton and smash is kind of similar to Snake's and Brawl. Also a character who's creator is very interested to have in smash and is pushing for his games on Nintendo's consoles. Of course that's all speculation at the moment but you never know.

I'd be so happy if they revealed Layton in Smash 4th E3 trailer. :)

Oh yeah I was supposed to make these colour swap pics didn't I? I guess I'll get to it soon now that this thread has been revived.

I don't see Layton making it in but I would love to see him added. If he gets no representation in SSB4 what so ever I'll be very disapointed.

Done. ^_^

Well if he doesn't make it in as playable I doubt there would be any kind of representation for him or his series in smash. After all, as much as I hate to admit it. He's still a third party character. ^^;
